Chapter 5.1 - Struggles of the Alliance
STAR

WARS

Struggles of the Rebellion

The rebel alliance, having been forced to flee
from their newly constructed base in the Hoth Star System, began
to rebuild on an uncharted planet known only as 5251977; the
location of the planet a closely held secret.  With scarce
resources and few trained troops the alliance is forced to
rely on rookies and rejects to establish their new foothold.

Located in the outskirts of the outer rim, far outside of imperial
control, the planet was outside any normal trade route.  Scavenging
missions were a high priority for the alliance, bringing much needed
supplies and equipment to the fledgling base.

Chapter 5.1 - Struggles of the Alliance
The room is filled to capacity with about 30 beings from various parts of the galaxy.  Each chattered with his/her/its neighbors about the sudden summons.  The ambient noise was loud, but not overwhelming.  With the different languages being spoken, anyone would be hard pressed to recognize or understand any one conversation.  Each being was dressed in ragtag attire, ranging from orange pilot flight suits to simple breeches and loose shirts.

The room is square and unadorned - the only items being seats for the attendees and small desk in front to act as a podium of sorts.  Each of you is sitting in whatever open seat you could find when you arrived.  Only a few minutes after each seat is filled, a tall woman with a straight back and short sever hair strolled in from the back and purposefully stepped up behind the desk at the front of the room.  "Good Morning" The room quiets down quickly.

"I am Commander She'Ra, I have been assigned to take this facility and turn it into a working stronghold.  You . . are all I have to work with" she grimaces slightly, but immediately corrects her features into a blank expression "Each of you have skills that we need to get this facility up and running.  We have other teams erecting buildings, but what we don't have is sufficient supplies or equipment.  At the moment, except for several star fighter patrols we are running, we are blind.  This place is remote, but soon enough the empire may discover us again and we need to be ready.  For security purposes, only 1 pilot within each group will know our location.  All of you are to protect that secret with your lives"

She opens a portfolio she had carried with her into the room.  "You have all been assigned to teams that will go and procure supplies and/or equipment as instructed.  When I call your name, please stand and follow your sergeant out of the room." She begins calling names out and various beings stand, after 5 names the first group leaves with a sixth human sergeant.

"Altani Shedu, Bolarro Shaxxon, Crow, Fratz Kre, Kurgan, Truk Bwanrata - follow Sergeant Torsk for your assignment."  You see a sad looking Chadra-Fan standing on his chair following the large wookie and bothan with his gaze as they exit the room.

You all stand and you see a Duros wave at you and exit by the rear door, filing in, you traverse the hallway only a few dozen meters before you are shown into an equally stark room with 6 chairs and a large display screen on one wall.

"I am Sergeant Torsk, Ive been assigned to your group as the mission leader.  I will not be accompanying you on your tasks, but will coordinate the effort with the other sergeants.  As Camander She'Ra said, we are in desperate need of supplies and equipment to outfit this outpost.  We have several potential sites in mind for your first run, while other groups will be making simple purchasing runs along established trade routes, you" he grins "will hit abandoned posts and scavenge for material."

"You have been assigned together to provide a balanced force with both muscle and technical expertise, ill let you all get aquanted in a moment, but first" he clicks a button an a remote control you had not noticed untill now "your first assignment" the display springs to life, showing a snow covered planet with a distant asteroid belt in the background.

"As I hope you all know, we abandoned Hoth base with little time to gather our material and supplies.  The empire came quickly and our defenses were barely adequate to evacuate the site of personnel.  We left a potential treasure trove of materials there.  I say potential because we dont know what state the empire left the site in.  No ships have been spotted in the system for some months, so we don't believe there to be an active presence, but . . . well, we just dont know.  Thats where you all come in."  He pauses and the display zooms into the planet surface, panning to a a white on white display of a large hanger bay door, hanging loose "We need your team to take a cargo ship and make a run to the abandoned Hoth base.  Enter the base and scout the layout.  Determine what supplies, materials, or equipment could be salvaged.  Load up what you can, catalog the rest."  with that the image shifts again to show a basic layout of the base as it would have been undamaged.  See Game Map for Group 0

Our priorities would be
1. Any working or repairable droid
2. Power generators of any size
3. Foodstuffs or other consumables.
4. Lastly . . .

On number 4 Torsk pauses significantly, "Hoth was going to be the center of the rebel alliance, we had begun construction of a orbital bombardment bunker, but it was not complete by the time the empire arrived, however . . we had stored some materials in the initial cavity, it may have survived unmolested.  That is all we know, those that knew of the bunkers existence are gone, either dead or not available.  If you can find the bunker the equipment inside could be vital, since if it survived, it should be intact and functioning."

"Mr. Crow has been assigned as your pilot." He waves in the direction of the Chiss "We have a modified Starlight Class Freighter assigned to you for this mission.  I know your a starfighter jockey, but there's not a lot of cargo room in a TIE fighter."

"I need to step out for a moment, please discuss the mission and get acquainted - Ill be back shortly with some supplies issued by the quartermaster.  You may ask any questions then."  Trosk steps out of the room and closes the door.

There you sit, 6 near strangers - though the wookie and bothan show some signs of familiarity.

OOC
Currently you do not know what planet you are on.  As stated, this is for Security purposes.  You were each brought here over the last few days from distant recruiting centers.  Only Crow knows the coordinates, so if he dies you guys may be SOL.  :)

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki...lass_light_freighter
Ive placed the ships stats in the part resources thread.  You do not own the ship, it has been assigned to you as equipment.

Lets establish the Destiny Point Pool - Please roll 1 force die each.

The game map is approximate.  Equipment shown on the maps is likely not there.  The tranports, for instance, are not there.

Chapter 5.1 - Struggles of the Alliance
17:35, Today: Fratz Kre rolled no successes, 1 dark force point using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 1F ((2(F))).
Nice Ship, the Axe is my vote for the name!

Fratz was leaning back in his chair in the meeting hall, with his feet up.  He origins gave him a tougher look then most humanoids, and he did little to squash that assumption.

He could not help but chuckle when the commander comments that this rabble is all she has to work with.

When he is in the first group to be called into a more private briefing, he is privately thankful that he does not have to learn everyone's name.  He follows the group to a private room

Fratz has an average build and walks with a very sure stride.  Most notably, he has a half dozen grenades on a bandoleer across his chest.  There is a noticeable burn along the left side of his face.  Probably enough that if he did have eyebrows, one side would have been burnt off.

He nods politely to the assembled group as they settle in for their second briefing of the day.

When the ice planet comes up he groans and mutters "Ice?  It had to be ice" as he visible shivers.

As the sergeant goes off in search of supplies, Fratz stands up and examines the map much closer.  "Name is Fratz Kre" he says on his way up.  What might concern some of those in the room, he takes a few grenades off his bandolier and starts juggling them as he studies the map.  Juggling was always a good way to clear your mind and focus on a task at hand.

Chapter 5.1 - Struggles of the Alliance
Bolarro glances briefly over the Hoth base map as its revealed, then goes back to rubbing his temples in a slow circle.  He looks like hammered Bantha dung, moustache and sideburns untrimmed, hair in a lazy ponytail and parts hanging out.  His eyes are surprisingly clear though ringed with dark circles, but he reeks of alcohol all the same.

"Gets pretty cold in the northern reaches of Corellia... Don't mean I'm keen on the idea of freezing my ass off to pick the bones of whatever those bastards decided not to level from orbit.  That's what I'd have done anyway... Bury the whole place under a mountain of ice and slag... Whatever.  I'll keep you lot breathing long enough to get back here.  The rest is up to you," he somewhat trails off in spots, but manages to complete his statement, though his words were a little less than clear.

17:20, Today: Bolarro Shaxxon rolled no successes, 1 dark force point using the Star Wars Edge of the Empire with a dice pool of 1F.  Destiny Pool Generation.

Chapter 5.1 - Struggles of the Alliance
In reply to Bolarro Shaxxon (msg # 4):

As the group was leaving the room, he glanced back at Dienton and gave him a concerned look.  He had grown to like the little Chadra Fan during his last mission, and after all, the little guy saved his life.

Hey Kurgan!” Truk whispered to the Wookie. “Looks like Dienton isn’t making it with us this time….too bad….” Truk lamented.  Truk wasn’t sure if Kurgan really noticed that Dienton was not coming as he seemed focused on getting from point A to point B.

As he was in the briefing, Truk started to make mental notes of the things that they should be looking for:  Droids, power generators, supplies, orbital gun stuff.  However, Truk thought that there also might be some good intel for the alliance here.  After all, wouldn’t they want to know what the Empire was looking for after they left?

Truk came out of his reflection when a humanoid started talking and introduced himself as Fratz Kre, but was unimpressed with the grenade juggling.  That just seemed….reckless.  When a soldier-looking human spoke, he was sure that he was drunk.  It wasn’t spice, he had seen that too many times on Tatooine; no, this was alcohol, especially since it reeked of a distillery whenever he talked.  Truk didn’t mind indulging once in a while, but he hoped this wouldn’t be a problem out on the mission.

The name’s Truk Bwanrata!” He said with a smile and looking around at each of the group members. “I’m not a medic nor a real fighter, but if you need me in a tight spot, I can definitely help out.  But my real talent is in keeping us out of tight spots and knowing exactly who to talk to. So, I hope it doesn't even come to the point where we need our,” he pauses briefly as Bolarro’s eyes start to droop “medic.

After finishing his intro, Truk started to think about the cover they would need for the mission.  Salvagers seemed appropriate; afterall, they had a hunk of junk spacecraft that fit the bill, and Truk’s background in smuggling would ensure that they could talk the talk in case they ever got caught.

The mission?  Easy peezy….although he thought that during the last one too and it ended up with him in a bacta tank.

Fratz says, while continuing juggling "If I were the empire, I would leave the items intact.  They know the Rebellion is desperate for goods and materiel, so it would be a good idea to ensure it looks like things are intact.  That would encourage us to come back and scavenge what we can.  Once we are back, they can further drain our resources by injuring our personnel.  Or they could capture us to try to find out our location.  Maybe even just leave explosives behind so we go boom if we go looking."

He examines the map, seeing all the perfect places he would leave tricks for anyone who came looking for treats.

Chapter 5.1 - Struggles of the Alliance
Kurgan sat in the meeting, studying many of the others, wondering why he was here and what in the name of the nine was going on.

As the meeting finally got underway, Kurgan listened intently, his frown deepening when the woman mentions poor quality group she had to work with.  A low growl slipped almost involuntarily out of his thick furred throat.

Pleased to hear his name called, the pleasure chilled when he realized he was stuck with Sergeant Torsk once again.  The grimace and growl was low, or meant to be so but several humans shrunk back as he marched from the room.

Nodding vaguely towards Truk, Kurgan was still considering his last mission with the Sergeant and several others.  To say it had been fun would be stretching the truth like only a Boskan could.

Listening to their mission, Kurgan nods pondering what they would  have to do.

Moving to the maps, Kurgan's eyes were involuntarily drawn away from the map towards the lunatic grenade juggling fool.  "Pin comes out, I'm taking an arm." Kurgan promises patting his vibro-glaive.

Studying the map, Kurgan looks for any good places to land and act as a base of operations.  "Can't land at the old base, we will need a second base of operations." Kurgan growls studying the map, looking to see if there were any other smaller bases the rebel alliance had started or perhaps a scout base they might be able to use as an alternative base.  "We should also set up a second site, in case the first is over run.  We will need to get on the same coms channel."

Altani couldn't but agree with the Kurgan regarding the playing with explosives in the presence of others. "Yeah, want to blow yourself up go do it on your own." She added waving a hand at him dismissively.

"I am Altani, arms dealer, i look forward to working with you all." She motioned for the map before saying. "I say we scout the place then move in if its clear, i don't see us hauling material across the frozen wastes from the base to wherever we decide to land first."

She stretched on her spot not seeming to care much for planing at the time. "But it is early to make any decisions. what we can worry about though is things we may specifically need for the mission. I am ill prepared to take a stroll in that ice ball." Said Altani pressing a thumb against her chest and fatigues she was wearing. "Need some other clothes if i am expected to leave the ship at all, don't know about you." She ended shooting a glance at Kurgan

Fratz replies to Kurgan "That is fair.  But my suggestion would be to dive for cover if a pin came out, or might might be a bit of an arm for a leg sort of deal" with a wry grin.

Turning to Altani he says "All civilized explosive devices are quite stable until primed.  I could throw these at the deck and nothing would happen.  If I am ever dealing with the primitive types of explosives that can be set off with a small bump, you can be sure that I will not be juggling those"

Having finished his analysis of the map, he catches each grenade, over exaggerating the last catch as if he was going to drop it before smiling at his new teammates.

"So", Fratz says as he sits down putting his legs on on a desk "An Arms dealer eh?  I can always use some more explosives.  Have any in stock?"

"Dealt with enough weapons to know that there are no civilized explosives or weapons. There is no quality guarantee and even when there is, there are always faulty ones, from the production line or because of mishandling and storing at some point or another." She pointed at the wall. "Maybe it wont explode if you toss it at the wall maybe it will, maybe after you do, it will explode in your hand when the time comes for you to actually use it. And no offense intended but i couldn't care less about your arm but maybe i o someone else is standing next to you when that happens. I tell you this much because we are not selling you anything but really, as an arms dealer, take care of your equipment and it will take care of you."

Altani leaned in somewhat excitedly at the mention of her trade. "Oh i would have to see what survived, you know how it goes, i bet there are plenty in stock, though it would take way too long to get a hand of them to meet your immediate needs."

Fratz gestures to his bandolier of grenades and says "I have enough for now, but once I start using" then adds conspiratorially "Or dropping" then continues "these ones, I will need some more" grinning.  "Something with a bigger bang would be nice too, for those tight spots.  Hard as a Dewback's skull to get a Thermal Detonator.  Some shaped charges for making doors where there is only a wall could help us get out of tight spaces too."

After she replies he says "How did someone in such a profitable business as yours come to join the Rebellion and how long have you been here?  Personally, I this is my first assignment.  Joined up less then a week ago"

"Why for that very same reason, money. First assignment too, though i presume we are mostly in the same situation if She'Ra's words meant anything." Altani started to drum her fingers on her lap, giving a weird look at the others. "So... You all here for the cause, right?" Without giving them a second to answer she explained. "Well then i am here for the cause of money! When you think about it, it's almost the same."

Chapter 5.1 - Struggles of the Alliance
While the two talked shop, explosives, cost and the like, Kurgan continues to study the map looking for what it might reveal, much as a game trail might tell you what has used the trail, how often and how many.

Looking to their pilot, Kurgan jerks his head, "Does the ship have enough room to take a speeder or anything to move a generator should we find one?  No need to break backs if we can bring a large dolly or something to help move the gear."

OOC:
As posted earlier; Looking for any other possible landing sites and possible base camps.  IE, are there any other rebel sites which have cover and protection from the cold?
Chewy didn't really wear much for cold weather gear in the movies, but I imagine I'll need something to keep from freezing?  I'll ask for cold weather gear once the time comes.

"Fortune and Glory!"  Truk responded to Altani.  "I'm here for fortune and glory.  Afterall, what better way to make a name (and a buck) for yourself than in the middle of a war."

Giving Altani an appraising look, Truk says, "Sounds like we have a similar view and potentially a similar background.  You ever do any work with the Hutts?"

Bolarro spits on the ground at the mention of the Hutts, then turns to the Klatooinian, "Son.  I'm going to have to ask you to cease and desist.  I'm sure you have a fair idea of how to handle those things, but I'm the one that has to put you back together if you're wrong.  The short explanation is, you don't want to be on my bad side when you have to go under my vibro-scalpel.  I'm not saying I'm gonna kill ya or nothin'... Just maybe... maybe I won't try as hard as I should if you annoy me.  Poor Black Sun vigo learned that one the hard way..."

His voice trails off at the end again, like he's continuing this speech in his head.  Suddenly he stands and re-positions his rifle across his back, grunting at the weight before he sits back down and takes a drink from a flask he produces from somewhere on his person.

"Easy there big fella," He reassured the soldier. "I meant no disrespect.  The fact is that when working the Outer Rim, it's almost inevitable to get tangled up with the Hutts.  I was just trying to see if the lady and I had crossed paths at some point.

But what about you?  It sounds to me like you ended up on the wrong side of a Hutt transaction.  Common occurrence out here, even if you are considered 'their friend'

Chapter 5.1 - Struggles of the Alliance
Altani's visage quickly brightens as if permeated by Truk's enthusiasm. "YES! That is what i am talking about." She laughed a little before answering. "Why i do think i have, with, for and against. Although it is my understanding that well settled criminal cartels are rarely the best partners, they tend to have their own sources."

"It is a life of adventure, cross them here, partner with them there, stumble on the imperials every other day. You do it once you do it a dozen times, its all the same, i mean they can only blast you once, right?" Altani started to giggle a little at her own reasoning but should nobody tag along she would suddenly stop and add. "Come on now, you leave me hanging."
