Book 1, Chapter 1 - Missing help
It has gone a month since you opened the gates of DeepHold and with it starting the creation of FootHold. Things has gone smoother than you feared, the general population has really come together for the life outside and the move to outside has really started.

The area outside of DeepHold is a small valley in which a calm river runs through. The river puts a natural border and runs in a long curvy fashion from the north towards the south. DeepHold rests on the western side of the river. It is about 150 feet across and it took some looking before you found a good place for your to cross it. It creates a natural protection to a old leaf forest that starts a few miles away on the other side. The forest in itself stretches for as far as you can see.

In the north the forest thins out into a hilly plain.

To the south the forest is more eerie looking and comes all the way up to the eastern bank of the river. On the western side of the river the mountain side stretches tall making journey there hazerdess. Mainly due to the danger of falling rocks and land slides. According to Blaze that part of the mountain is angry and should be avoided if possible.

Some among the elves decided to put it on themselves to investigate the forest to the east, mainly to see if it would be able to hunt in it. In the beginning things went great and large game was brought back. But two days ago one of these investigating parties never returned as they should and it fell on you to see if you could find them.

You packed what you felt needed and headed over to the other side and are at the moment standing in front of the large looming forest.

Book 1, Chapter 1 - Missing help
Klixxil stretched shook his legs out yet again, but the stiffness was still lingeringering. He had carried maybe thrifty buckets of water from the river to D'Volaks farm yesterday afternoon. Thirty. And the gnarly dwarf still regarded him as some lazy youth with discipline issues. He'd offered to help out of his own good will seeing as D'Volaks wife Engela had given birth last week. Ungrateful bastard.

Adjusting the pack on his back he turned to wait for his companions, grinning excitedly. They would be in the forest soon. Klixxil was no hunter or scout but he knew Shadow and Blaze were pretty adept here. They'd be sure to find out what happened to the missing hunters.

"Come on guys!" He chirped

Book 1, Chapter 1 - Missing help
Shadow hiked along with the group towards the forest edge, the situation she was is both  amused and surprised her.  That anyone would look to her for guidance was . . a little disturbing.

She walked several paces behind and to the side of the main group, keeping to herself as was her norm.

At the forests edge they paused, she grinned inwardly at klixxil's excitment.  Shadow took a moment to stretch her senses towards the trees, looking for signs of . . anything.

Ashera gave the young man a sideway look as she continued to tie the ropes for the riggings.
"It's just a quick rescue mission, Coxvain.
These people need our help. They probably just got stuck in a canyon somewhere waiting for us to come help them out.
Look. It's not like we're goign far to start with. I'm sure you  give us one week worth of proviantation and we'll bring back half... The others have already packed and I have the map. Granted it's rather sketchy at present, but it's all we need for now.
"
"Alright. You ca..."The Coxvain didn't get the chance to finish his sentence before he was abruptly distrupted by the swooshing sound of Ashera grabbing her backpack and jumping over the reeling. He could almost hear her shout "Thanks. You're the best!" over her shoulder as she hit the ground running. Wanderlust and the sense of adventure. With this girl there wasn't really

Ashera caught up with the others a little outside the gate.
"Hi guys. What did I miss?" her voice was chirpy and filled to the brim with exitement.

Book 1, Chapter 1 - Missing help
Silhouette walks a bit past Klixxil before she pauses, looking ahead to the forest.  She likes the forest.  Coming out of the kaer was, she had to admit to herself, a bit... worrying.  She finds herself often reciting Lethe's teachings in her head: Fear is a tool.  We control it, it does not control us.

The shadows of the forest are very different from those of the caves, but still shadows.  She likes shadows.

Glancing back, she chuckles suddenly.  But just then Ashera catches up, so she gives her a nod, and replies, "We... left FootHold?  But so have you, I see.  We've walked this far along the trail, but you seem to have managed that, as well."  She blinks, and shrugs, turning away to look forward again.  "Maybe you missed our company."

Having been asked to join the group, Blaze was more than willing to act as physician as well as Elementalist and looked forward to finding the hunters and exploring their neighborhood.

With  backpack on his shoulder he flew out of his home and office joining the others, landing on a branch you look about checking out there surroundings.

Book 1, Chapter 1 - Missing help
A young dwarf with red hair and beard tucked behind his belt listened joined the group right before they left the Kaer. Noticing the excitment of few of his companions brought a smile on his lips. He felt the same, but from different reasons. It wasn't that he didn't like forest, or wilderness in general. His excitment was caused by a possibility of fight.

With his shield resting on his back and his left hand on the axe behind the belt, Kraath slowly moved forward stopping after few steps and looked around.

Book 1, Chapter 1 - Missing help
With the combined effort you had no problem to find the location on which the elves had entered the forest and after a few yards you were able to pick up evidence of their trail leading straight ahead. You spread out a bit continuing forward marsching slowly for about two hours keeping track on the trail you were following.

Here and there you found a foot-print, a fresh broken branch and the left-over of some bread. There where no doubt that you where following in the right direction. As you had walked for three hours Silhouette found that the tracks where taking a turn heading south heading for a stream in that direction. She had no problem at all to follow them and after 30 yards she found that the elves actually had been followed as a new set of animal tracks came into view. Shadow immediately thought that they some kind of large feline, no idea what kind of breed. The claw marks didn't look good regardless. From the form of the animal trail Shadow estimated the feline would be about 6-10 foot long, about 300-400 lbs. A really large animal.

The area you are in consists of rather heavy woodland. You can't see more than maybe 10-15 feet away and further ahead - maybe 20-30 feet to the south - you can hear a stream.

Klixxil licks his lips at the sound of the stream. It's been a good walk so far, the trees were fantastic, even better than the stories of them. The Tskrang has been virtually bouncing through the woods so far, swinging from low branches and clambering along fallen trees near their path. He is now panting a little from his exuberance.

"I'd really like a drink!...     Shut up, I meant a drink of water," he adds, all too aware of the jokes running around the Kaer.
"Can we take a moment to look at the stream and fill up our bottles?"

"Hang on...
That stream doesn't feature in any of my charts...
Do you think they forgot to put them in?
"
Ashera stood with maps in one hand and the machete in her other.
"I'll put it in later. Let's go."
Ashera put her maps under her coat and headed for the sound of running water.

"I think maybe they added it to their chart, and then died before they could tell you," Silhouette answers Ashera.

She crouches down again, noting a cracked branch, and shrugs.  "On the one hand, this is probably exactly how they got lost, but on the other hand, it's likely they went to the water, too.  But be careful.  Apparently this forest is even better for hunting than we thought."

"Not exactly how it works, matey..."
She cocked her head and pursed her look in what looked to be strained contemplation.
"I'm more betting for her rushing this way sharply followed by some giant cat like the one with the fluffy tail in Mrs. Silverstones class textbook.
Shall we say within three minutes?

Silhoutte grins wickedly at Klixxil's question and gives her own answer.  "Depends on how much we like her," she offers, knowing perfectly well Shadow is probably still in hearing range.

More seriously, then, she adds, "I just hope she has time to scream."  She nods her agreement.  "Three."

Book 1, Chapter 1 - Missing help
Flying to Kraath, Blaze flies near the Dwarf, "Would you like some Elemental protection?  If that cat finds us, best to be prepared, yes?" he asks.

"Would you mind if I get a lift?  My wings are begining to tire and if I'm close, I can keep up the spell to protect you better."

If Kraath agrees, Blaze casts Air Armor and Flame Weapon on the Warrior, recasting as necesary for the next few minutes, just in case things get tough.

Looking in the trees, Blaze shudders, "Cats climb trees, yes?  We should also keep our eyes up, in case the cat decides to take refuge in the limbs above us."

OOC:
Air Armor duration moved to rounds, so both only last 8 rounds ... almost a minute.
If a fight begins, I'll move around and cast on others.

As an answer to Blaze, Kraath looked at his armor. A flicker of sadness passed his eyes. He always wished for Plate Mail or at least Chain one, but alas his funds didn't allow him anything better than leather.

A second later he raised his head towards windling with a broad smile and nodded in agreement. Then he tapped his left shoulder to show windling where he can sit. This way he would be able to defend the Windling with his shield during the fight.

In reply to Shadow (msg # 13):

Shadow sneaks away being completely silent and quickly vanishes from your view as she walks past a few trees and is then gone as if the forest ate her whole. You have seen this ability from her in the past even if this is the first time you have seen it used in this kind of environment where the nature itself seems to help her vanish.

Book 1, Chapter 1 - Missing help
"So if we're all betting on three minutes who is giving off bounty when we win?..." Asheras inner dialogue reasoned. Her inner monologue might have continued if she hadn't spent more of her energy on scouting the trees for Large cats with fluffy tails. Her machette got another swing or two just for the pure rehearsal of it while she expected a fight.
