Day One: The Arrival
Slightly over two hours since the ship returned to "normal" space, it dropped out of warp.  In front of it was a large, ancient star.  One that had extended most of its life and was currently a dwarf.  There was little of note in the system. Most planets were barren or full of molten material.  It seemed the system died when its star changed to its current state.

There was a structure orbiting one of the planets. It was the second one from the star and barely registered on the sensors.  It was of unfamiliar design and seemed to have been dormant for a long time.

Standing on the bridge with the crew, Admiral Zenerin spoke up after observing the images on the main screen.

"Any readings from the planet or station? Life? Power? Anything?  We were unable to get anything from the long range sensors before the mission."

Day One: The Arrival
In reply to Storyteller (msg # 1):

Takeo runs his combat sensors over the system and structure. Noting with some surprise the position within the system of the Station. "Admiral Captain, has any one collated any data on when that star is going to collapse."
"I would say we have a slight problem with the collapse of the conduit and the Space ship powering it from the other end"

Day One: The Arrival
Meg nodded at the Admiral's question. "Initiating scans of the local system, Admiral." Her fingers danced across the keys and sent commands for various scans to be done. The results would be sent to all bridge crew members once they were complete.

One scan that could be done quickly was of the star. "As the star is already a White Dwarf, there should be no concern that it will collapse without external interference. It will continue to cool, however. But the star does not appear to provide power to the space station."

Meg looked back to her console, then up again at the admiral. "There is a low level of power, sir, and the power creation appears to be completely internal."

Taeko smiles an unusual sight for him. "Thank you Lt the sensors I am using do not cover that area so well and I was curious".
Takeo refines his search, "it looks like every thing has been powered down and left waiting arrival to me"

Sialk returned to his post still battered but in reasonable repair. After getting used to all of the damage seen by the ship's internal sensors he contacted the bridge. "Sialk reporting, repair squads are being sent to prevent internal fracturing from worsening".

Bridge

Out of the portal, out of warp, the Hyperion was truly in the Outer Dark now. Mavrik was glad they'd finally arrived. Rather than hide in his office or work his tension in the gym (which, okay, he'd done a fair bit of), Mavrik chose to face his fear and came to the Bridge, refreshed and ready to delve into the unknown. After all, with their first step into a wholly unknown part of space, they might have a first encounter, and the captain and admiral could well need a counsellor trained in xenoanthropology.

The Orion remained at the back of the bridge, quietly waiting and observing. On the viewscreen was a strange and ancient star in a dead system. A bleak welcome. Then Mavrik realise he could never see the stars Rigel or Sattenik again, so very far away. The Outer Dark had closed in around them.

[Bridge]

Meg looked over at the door as it swooshed open to admit Mavrik. She smiled slightly at him as he entered, then returned to her scanning tasks. "No life readings on the station or any of the planets. Or at least not life as our sensors are calibrated to detect." As they would likely be discovering new forms of life out here, it wouldn't be particularly surprising if their sensors had difficulty now and again.

Meg's brow furrowed as she looked at her console. "There is a repeating information packet being broadcast. It seems to have started shortly after our arrival. We could load it into our systems to decipher it, but of course there is the risk of contamination." The nearest Starbase was a long ways away.

Re: Day One: The Arrival
Listening to the reports, Admiral Zenerin stood up and walked over closer to the front consoles. "Thank you, Lieutenant Meg.  Lieutenant Peterson, bring us in closer to the station.  Not too close in case their are any defenses or traps waiting for us."

Jericho watched and listened to his bridge crew as they efficiently went about things. "Lt. Takamuko, please advise Colonel Jors of the situation." He then turns back to the view screen and watches as the move closer to the station, then taps the comm to speak with the ambassador "Ambassador Ssussunriyh, this is Captain Jericho, if possible could you join us on the bridge."

"Acknowleged, I'm on my way," Bianca replied over the comm.

Minutes later, the turbolift doors hissed open, and Bianca stepped out onto the bridge. Making her way forward to stand beside the command chair, she studied the dying star system and the darkened space station that appeared on the viewscreen. "Not quite what I had anticipated," she remarked.

Taeko nods his hearing and acceptance of the order. And uses personal coms to contact Colonel Jors and brief him as to what has happened and present situation.

Walter moved the ship forward so they could look over the station.  He kept it close enough to see if there were any obvious issues, but he kept it within scanning distance.
