Stormhaven Keep

Finishing the last bites, and last sips, the party emerges back into
the city.  The rain has returned in force and is a steady pour as they
make their way to the appointment.  The party knows the way now to
Stormhaven Keep, and despite their increase in reputation, abilities,
and wealth, the walk to the Keep is always humbling.  The building
itself is huge and imposing, and the knowledge of the power that
resides within, the governance of an entire region, is itself
daunting.

Upon showing the invitation, the party is immediately taken inside.
Soaked, and minds still buzzing with the events from earlier in the
day, they are taken directly to the great hall where the Lord Mayor
sits upon his throne.

The Lord Mayor looks to have aged since last you saw him, but is still
a formidable man given his age.  There is a line of people waiting to
have a hearing with him, but after he notes your entrance, he motions
to his staff and they quickly remove everyone else from the chambers.
Everyone but his advisors and guards. There is no sign of Ingelbern.

Stormhaven Keep

Lord Eradan Thyrandas III takes a moment to look each of you in eyes,
then begins.

"In times before, you have shown both skill, bravery, and loyalty to
myself and the good people of Stormhaven.  I find I again have need of
your services.  In rescuing the Golden Discs, and those that were taken
hostage, you did a great service to the City, to the Order of the Invincible Sun, and me,  and I hope you may be willing to do so again.  Though I am hopeful the mission will prove a less dangerous one."

"Many years ago, I appointed a young man to a royal post, he was,
shall we say, eccentric, and his family desperately wanted something
for him to do that fit his station. His name was Beniz Ehridol, and at
the time, I was lacking a Royal Astronomer.  It was a harmless enough
position and was advantageous of me to help the Ehridol family.  He
was given the title, as much training and access to our libraries as
he wished, and even a home in the great stone lighthouse on the
northern shore of our City."

"He committed to the studies, but within a year, he asked to move and
be given possession of an ancient lighthouse days to the north of the
City.  He complained the light and smoke from the city interfered with
his work.  Though I must admit, I never took astrology to be much use,
it gave me joy Beniz took so seriously his duties, and I granted him
the abandoned lighthouse.

For thirty years now, I have received from him, once a month, a volume
of letters detailing the work he has done, logs of the weather, of the
movement of stars, of portents, and a great deal of ramblings.
Ramblings and ramblings.  As I mentioned, he is, an odd man.  But a
good man.  With all this bad weather, I had at last hoped he may be of
use, but for the last two months, I've had no letters at all.

Last week, though my men are stretched thin dealing with these storms
and the flood of refugees brought to our City, I sent two men to
investigate.  It is only a two day ride out to the lighthouse, and not a word.  I call upon you to investigate and bring my Royal Astromer home, if that is
possible."

"For your efforts, if successful, I will deed to you the Tower once belonging to the Talas vampire, I understand you had some desire for it and it would irk Harven to no end"
. With that, the Lord Mayor, almost smiles.

Stormhaven Keep

Inas suddenly snaps to attention, as if he just realized something.  And he acts . . . well, he acts mighty uncomfortable.  And anxious.  Very anxious.  And hurried.  Almost hurried.

Uncharacteristically, also Inas speaks.  Even more uncharacteristically, he is the first to do so.

"My Lord Mayor, do you have Beniz's letters?  I think we would like to look at them."

Stormhaven Keep

The Lord Mayor seems a bit surprised at the request but nods, "They may not leave the Keep, but I will have the librarian make them available to you".
