Dark Side of the Moon - The Moon

RECAP:  (Since I've been neglecting to post regularly...)

THE QANTARIATE:
You landed on Kraatar after finding a strange extra-dimensional orb and barely escaping an attack from them.  Known as the Qantariate, they appear as blackish amorphous creatures who cannot be perceived in our visual spectrum, although a strange creature that looks like intestines appeared when the orb was submerged.  They are teaming up with the Sathar to mount an assault upon the Frontier Sector.  A group of the Qantariate known as the Synths oppose the takeover but have difficulty communicating because they are from another dimension.  The orb itself, after analysis, appears to be a beacon.  The Qantariate appear in this universe and communicate using the Matrix Hole Between Worlds, which the beacon helps to open.  You have very little additional information except that they invasion is set to begin within the next 60 days.

The Synths formed a rebellion group known as the Shadows of Rakon.  A message was sent to them through the orb and LeGrange's genius was supposed to help in solving the Qantariate problem, but he was killed as you exited quarantine.

After a message was sent to the Shadow Rakon and before testing could be completed, a human female named Teliko and her reptile companion Syzzyx attacked and stole the Sphere with the help of their android colleague.  They broke in claiming to be a delegation from the UPF sent to investigate the sphere.  Teliko killed Dr. Matsuhara.  An extradimensional creature exited the Blackness and killed Dr. Nuna as well.  A Sathar also appeared, and the party saw them escape through a strange portal.  They took the Sphere with them.  However, the party killed Teliko and her companions.

UPF Consulate Grandin Spief met you, and told you to continue to investigate the assassination, and to see if any of it is related to the Qantariate, then to report back to him.  Also, report to him any Sathar involvement.  He thinks there is a connection between it all, but so far, the UPF doesn't believe him.  He wants you to keep him informed and collect evidence.  He gave you his contact information and told you to digitally record any evidence important to these matters as evidence for the UPF.

LEGRANGE AND THE KRAATAR PLOTS AND UNREST

The assassination of LeGrange led you to work with the Vrusk security on Kraatar (including the head of starport security named Zzik'Ti).  Kraatar is subject to rioting and violence based on racial disputes between the Vrusk and humans.  KLC operatives have engaged in terrorist attacks. You saved a Vrusk named REZZ as she was being attacked on the streets.  She is an unemployed pilot who used to run missions to the two moons of Kraatar and back, but KLC attacks destroyed the colony where she would do her piloting runs.

On the train to Quazzt's Depression to LeGrange's funeral, you discovered a Vrusk who had been staying at a nearby sanitarium for depression and had received an implant in his head.  It exploded on the train and killed him.  The train was then attacked by KLC operatives, and you barely saved it from total destruction.  The funeral was strangely held in secret before you got there, and you suspected a cover up of some sort.

You headed to the sanitarium, where you discovered a KLC operation that involved interrogating and trying to control Vrusk.  You took down the KLC operatives and rescued REZZ, who had been taken there and interrogated.  She is hurt, but you saved her and downloaded data to prove the plot to Zzik'Ti and perhaps some to help UPF Consulate Spief.

You then found a secret tunnel under the Sanitarium which led to a crater landing pad with a shuttle.  You fought off a robot but the mechanic woman you were chasing disappeared somewhere.

You all enter the ship and start some stimpaks and healing...

(At this point, please assume you found stimpaks and a healing center on the shuttle so that you are all back to normal stamina levels.)

After some healing and looking around the ship, you discover the following facts:

1) The woman is nowhere on board
2) The shuttle is an improved version of a standard shuttle and is capable of interplanetary flight, holding up to 10 passengers.  There are two sets of magnetic boots and uniforms with matching hoods and visors.
3) In the flight computer are two sets of coordinates and a diagram.  (Environmentalist skill check required to figure them out.)  (A computer check may also reveal further in the computer.)
4) Unfortunately, the shuttle is inoperative currently.  Part of its electronics system has been removed for repair.  If you track it down, REZZ can reinstall it and get the shuttle running again.

While doing all this, you suddenly see the mechanic woman appear as if directly from the stone wall of the crater, and you realize there must be another of those holographic camouflage covers over some sort of door or entrance.

She points and yells, "They're in there."  She points to the shuttle, and three heavily armed KLC appear behind her from the wall.

There are no weapons on board the ship.

The shuttle ramp closes at Orvo's command but that doesn't fix the problem of the missing electronics board that needs to be reinstalled.

(NOTE: assuming you find the electronics board, it can be installed with a level 3 engineering check.  The other option is to capture the mechanic alive and have her install it.)

Your tangler grenades go out as the door on the shuttle is closing.  You manage to catch two out of the four in the grenades, including the mechanic.  The other two KLC guards roll out of the way of the grenades and escape.

They point and gesture, and then you realize what is happening.  They are moving somewhere under the shuttle where the shuttle's cameras cannot see what they are doing.

You are all inside the shuttle with the door closed.  One KLC guard and one female KLC engineer are trying and failing to get loose from the tangler grenades.

The other two remain out of sight somewhere around the shuttle.

He hoists his machinegun and prepares to chase after them.

Re: Dark Side of the Moon - The Moon

As the shuttle deck comes down to give you access, you realize it is too slow.  It gives plenty of warning to the two commandos hiding underneath.  By the time you toss the grenades and begin firing, they are sprinting across the crater to the wall where they appeared from.  You realize that it must be another of those hologram walls.

Your doze grenade does, however, knock out the three commandos on the ground who were already entangled.  Your firing rifles and lasers do not hit the mark, except for one shot from Desi which hits one of the commandos in the leg just before he disappears behind the hologram.  You find a sense of satisfaction in hearing him cry out in pain and then stumble through the hologram.

Re: Dark Side of the Moon - The Moon

Hey, all.  Since now rejoining my prior firm, I can now post pictures/maps again.  Enjoy.

Hammer and Orvo move to the hologram cave entrance.  As soon as Hammer looks in, he sees the two commandos by a security/airlock door.  One of them tosses a grenade...

Then they both duck behind the door and close and lock it.

Orvo ducks and manages to dodge the grenade.  Hammer is not so lucky.  It is a tangler grenade, and he finds his metallic body and frame covered and immobilized by the sticky strings.

Meanwhile, Porter is searching but finds nothing unusual underneath the shuttle.  Desi guards but finds nothing out of the ordinary.  The three other commandos are still unconscious.

S'Krllk keeps fiddling with the shuttle.  It will definitely need the repaired parts before it will fly.  However, he does manage to pull up this schematic with coordinates.

He is able to use his skills to determine that the coordinates are the shuttle's current position and a position somewhere on the moon Artemis.  He also manages to unlock a number of security codes to give clearance and access to whatever that is on the moon.

Once Hammer is released, he goes to work on the security door.  His skills are good enough, and he manages to get it opened.  It opens onto an airlock to go deeper into a pressurized area that won't require your masks.

The tunnel curves as it goes north.

OOC to Porter: Cutting the tangler without solvaway for the commando would take a lot of time, since it is sticky and binding every place it touches.  Let's say 10 minutes of cutting.

Most of the party moves on to the room marked 2:

This area contains a radiophone and a subspace radio.  The radio is on a repeated signal being broadcast.  The commandos are not here.  There is a door to the east.

The subspace radio repeats in a female voice:

"This is Stanacha, shuttle pilot at the Sanatorium, trying to reach Artemis Base.  If you read me, please respond."  Three second pause.  "This is Stanacha..."

Re: Dark Side of the Moon - The Moon

A strange turn of events ensues.  Hammer fires into the darkness, and hears a grunt of pain.

Orvo runs forward toward the dark room...

Desi throws a tangler grenade into the far room.

Two laser beams fire from the far room:  one misses Hammer, and the other nearly hits Orvo but misses.

You also see two objects fly into the room where you are at.

Almost simultaneously, your tangler grenade goes off in the far room, and their tangler grenade goes off in your room.

Hammer and Desi are caught in the tangler grenade.

Orvo, on the other hand, is caught in Desi's tangler grenade, but so are the commandos.

Now, all of you on both sides are stuck in tangler grenades.

One of the commandos says to his comrade, "Get some solvaway quickly!  We've got to get out of this first."

Re: Dark Side of the Moon - The Moon

You hear the female commando say, "I got it. I got it!"  You are still waiting on Porter to arrive.

Then the female says, "Only 30 seconds left!  Sorry!"

"Wait!" the other commandos yell in unison.

The female who eluded you earlier runs into the room right past those stuck in the tangler grenade.

Although Orvo is having no luck getting out of the tangler, his new extra limb suddenly comes in helpful as he reaches out and trips the female.

At that exact moment, Porter steps into the room, only to have the female commando land on top of him, sending them both to the ground with her on top of him.  Her face shows fear.  She holds a part in one hand, and you can guess where that part goes:  in the shuttle.

"Come back!" her companions are yelling from the far room.

The female commando is trying to get up off Porter.  The part is held tightly in her hand.

Also, the door to the far room with the bomb is still wide open.  Porter has a decision to make...

If I don't die in an explosion, I'll be coming behind her!"

He reaches the door and slams it shut (slides it shut? mashes a power butten? something anyway). Then he slips to the side of the doorway in case it comes flying outwards, and prays the door holds.

You look in and find the inert body of the woman mechanic commando.  At her side is a standard issue laser pistol, and the part you need to fix the shuttle.

This hidden area is a small room with boxes of small parts.  One of the boxes catches your attention.  It apparently holds the tiny devices that were implanted in the Vrusk brains to control them and explode when necessary.

In the free hand of the woman commando, you see about five of these small devices.  The has apparently pushed a button, and they are now blinking...

Re: Dark Side of the Moon - The Moon

You gather the evidence at hand and move to the shuttle.  You realize you might not have too much time before more commandos arrive on scene.  You have now killed the ambushing party, stolen their vehicles, caused havoc within the sanitarium facility on every floor, and have now found their secret shuttle landing place.  This now makes clear what the locals were talking about with the secret shuttle missions despite air traffic being currently "grounded" by the authorities.

It takes S'krllk about an hour to completely refit the electronics system with the part from the maintenance room that you blew up.  The locker in the shuttle has two pairs of magnetic boots and two light blue uniforms with matching hoods and visors.  You imagine that is what must be worn at Artemis base.

There is also an autodoc of an exceptional quality (which fixed up your tortured pilot), and you can each take turns being healed on the 12 hour trip to the moon Setarz, and the Artemis Base which should hold the answers you seek.

As you take off, you relay the evidence and findings back to RIK Zzik'Ti.  He informs you that there are no spaceships and no vessels capable of interplanetary flight currently in the system.  After expulsion from the Commercial Council , Vist'Lat has closed the starport in an attempt to disrupt Kraatar's economy and secure their own economic dominance.
OOC: Reminder from Day 5:
Ssi'Aq'Krr (SAK) broadcasts this report throughout the day:

"Today the Commercial Council has expelled Vist'Lat from its ranks. The Council feels that much of the recent unrest can be attributed to VL's policies. Its latest move to sack its Human workers and evict them from their homes is untenable. The Council cannot condone or accept this behaviour."

Unfortunately the Council has no power to do anything more about it.

The only way you can get to Setarz is by using the KLC's own shuttle.  Luckily, you have it up and working and a pilot who can get you there.

You remember that in Dever's office, you found some very critical information:

OOC: Reminder from Dever's Office:

Two monitor screens sit on a desk next to a subspace radio. As the PCs enter, the radio is receiving a coded message from Legrange. This is stored in the radio and a computer specialist can decode it with a display information roll. The message reads:

"Artemis Base to High Peaks. Excelsior proceeding on schedule. Launch imminent! Soon Kraatar will be ours and the Vrusk no more. Prepare Operation Groundswell."
On the desk is Dever's half-finished investigation regarding the likely effects of the missile on Kraatar's ecology. Reams of scientific data describe the nature of the missile's payload, its development at the mining base and the plan to release it into Kraatar's atmosphere. It then goes onto consider the effects of the virus on Kraatar's ecosystem, but this section is inconclusive. An environmentalist studying this for 2 hours and making a successful analyze ecosystems roll realises the enormity of the devastation that the missile will wreak on Kraatar's ecology.

These facts showed you two things:  1) You have very little time until a missile is launched from Artemis Base that will effectively devastate Kraatar's ecology and kill countless innocents, and 2) Legrange appears to be alive, even though a hand grenade killed him right in front of you as you exited quarantine.  RIK Zzik'Ti urges you to take the shuttle and stop the missile launch.  It may be the only hope for the planet.  You must succeed!

OOC: Because you will not be on the planet if the missile strike succeeds, you will be awarded or docked experience points if you succeed or fail.  In other words, there is no GM intervention in the coming chain of events.

The trip to Artemis is 12 hours.  You all return to full health and stamina using the autodoc.  The trip is in zero gravity.  You realize you must have complete radio silence until you land or risk alerting the base.

YOU EACH RECEIVE 6 EXPERIENCE POINTS TO ALLOCATE ACCORDINGLY
