The Temple Of Trithereon
Deverick thanked the Sister, and waited until she had departed and he was alone. The area was as silent as the tomb, and Deverick only stared at the base of the statue, not daring to look up into the face of his God. He had been holding his feelings about the night they rescued Ren down deep, in a dark hidden place of his mind, for they had other things to deal with. But now, in this place of his God, and in the presence of his likeness, Deverick felt the self-imposed barriers of his mind slowly slipping away.
He now stood in front of the statue, and slowly went to his knees with the sound of metal links in movement. He removed his helmet and coif and bowed his head in prayer.
”
“Great Trithereon, I come ta ye with a troubled heart. …. I… I be vexed by feelings of sadness, regret, and shame. I nay knows what ta think on what me en me mates did. We freed a man taken by evil, so we gave em back his liberty, so that be pleasing in yer eyes. We fought an evil Priestess ta a foul god, and that be pleasing in yer eyes. We seemed ta do right, but then, why do me heart feel like a stone, Lord?”
Deverick went on all fours now; the large man seemed racked with grief.
“Those boys… they be so bloody young. I knows they would av tried ta chop us, but still….. It was me fault they got chopped. Me plan was ta rush inta th door and slam it afore they could do more than gape at us. But me plan failed and me mate, Blossom, she did what she did. But it be me fault, nay hers, I was in charge and it was me plan she followed."
"Good and great Trithereon, Did I do evil trying ta do good? I do me beast ta follow me yer teachings, but I feel, I failed ye. Those boys where what they were cause o’ being born poor, nay their fault they be what they be. They nay deserved ta die that night. Forgive me my Lord. Forgive me for not being more clever. Let yer punishment fall on me alone, I be alone responsible.
The large man then went prostrate before the statue, the feelings of shame and grief washing over him like waves of water. His hands reached out and touched the base of the statue then.
