A game during the time of the Fronde. Hmmm, it certainly won't be boring, that's for sure. As much as I have gamed in Flashing blades for the years, I was always the GM. I never thought about rping a Historical character,but that is fine.

 I went digging through the attic and found my FB stuff in a box.(cough), and I still have the only character I ever made,and never had a chance to rp.

 Gerard de Amberville

Class: Noble AKA Big deal!, He is the fourth son to a improvised Viscount in the Provence of Normandy. The ancestral estate is a run down pile of stone and timber,. His father WAS Royal appointed Attendant that over saw the gathering of Taxes of the Gabelle.(Salt Tax). The problem was, his father, while gathering the Salt tax was indirectly involved in smuggling salt,with other minor officials. The activity was discovered by the Crown, and after the executions, imprisonments,and exiles, the Viscount de Amberville was left off "lightly" in consideration of loyal service in the past. By lightly, it meant much of his estate was forfeit to the crown, leaving the ancestral home a shadow of its former self. Fines and having to repay the monies taken in the smuggling operation, not to mention the loans to attempt repayment, has left the family a poor as church mice,and heavily in debt.

 Gerard  is seeking to travel to Paris in an attempt to seek his fortune,as his family has none. While Noble born gave him a slight advantage, his family name is considered by some to have been trampled in the mud upon the road of dishonor. Gerard seeks by service to the Crown to reverse his families fortunes,and regain the glory and honor that  was once associated with the name de Amberville.

 Sorry, I got carried away after finding that old character. Sue me. :) But I still like the back ground for him.

  Advantage: Gentleman's Lacky ( The only thing a loving father could give his son,in way of wealth. It would be a Servant, that had been with the family for years. Most likley, the servant's family has served the  de Ambervilles for generations.

Secret:  Code of Honor

His plans are up in the air. As the fourth son, he gets no inheritance, not that there is much to inherit. If he had means, the Royal Bureaucracy might be the way to go. The only real way to go in his attempt to reclaim his families honor, is by attracting Someone of influences attention. He is pretty much resigned to joining the Royal army. As a common soldier,as he has no money to purchase a commission.

Sounds cool! Where was his lands and Chateau located? Trying to picture where he's coming from. I was thinking about starting the game around 1642 or so when it starts... Richelieu has died and Cardinal Mazarin has just taken over. There begins a time when the nobles sense their chance to gain some of their rights and power back. Louis IV is 4 years old. Queen Regent, Anne of Austria and Mazarin are ruling France. Louis XIII wanted a Regency Council to rule which Anne annulled and thus gained their ire. Mazarin was Italian and not French and was hated by many including M. De Treville who had supported Anne for years and who's support was not reciprocated after Louis XIII's death.

So you see there is much intrigue to be had. Gerard will have chances of rubbing shoulders with many of these characters. Cheers

 Yep, that about sizes matters up. Prince Conde and several Dukes and such, saw this as a time to tear down what the former Cardinal had built up in the form of an absolute monarchy. There was some rather nasty fighting from duels, skirmishes, to the odd battle, before it was over.
 I am excited about talking a potential Campaign. But don't give up on Dev, please. :)

 To answer your question, as concerns the location of Gerard's lands, I never gave it much thought. I just had down they where somewhere in Normandy.

Gerard de Amberville Seems to be equally at home at Court or upon the battle field. With a rapier skill of 16 he'd be a deadly duelist as well. Something such men as De Treville or Cardinal Mazarin could use to take out political opponents and such. I really like the character and there seems to be a lot of directions you could take with him. With his background (quite well done I might add) there are a lot of role playing opportunities for sure. Cheers

 By the way, do you worry about weapon lengths in the game? I try to be "realistic" as to where Dev could use that Great Sword of his. In a narrow alley,or small room, it might be bad to swing that thing with friendlies nearby.

Yes, for the most part. I think in cramped quarters such as dungeon hallways, sewers, and narrow streets and alleyways would hinder the big guy and his greatsword. In some cases he could probably use it but at a -1 or -2 to hit. Some he may not be able to use it at all without hitting an ally. I hope that helps. Cheers

 I was thinking about you this morning. I have a friend that had to relocate because of the flooding out west. I hope you wont mind, if I said a prayer for you and my friend. Have a great weekend. :)

Don't mind at all and I am very grateful for it. My wife and I have friends/family out in the Houston area and so far they have been fine but so many have not. I live around the Memphis area. Its been raining on and off all week. Yesterday we got literally 10 inches of rain in less than a hour. With the ground already saturated, the drains/ sewers could not handle it and were backing up. The water rose up and it was literally 15 feet from my door. In several low lying areas houses and businesses were flooded. I feel very blessed. Our church is taking in some displaced families so today and tomorrow I will be busy but I'll get a post up now and again.
