Prologue: A World Mourns, A Flower Blossoms
Tiddas didn’t wait for the others as he turned on his heel and exited the room. Maybe he was a thief himself but assuming all of the sand people were pirates and rogues was just wrong. He already knew he would hate working with them, especially the water tribe boy who couldn’t even bend. What made him think he was so tough?

It was easy to make his way to the dining hall, already having poked around the place that morning. Sitting down at the far end, he occupied himself petting Bing while he waited for the food to be ready.

Siku enjoyed rambling on and on as they made their way into the dinning hall. He filled his plate with as many different things as he could. Without much thought he placed himself right next to Tiddas.
"What kind of cookies does she like?" he asked, gesturing at Bing before taking a bite of a bean curd puff. It was amazing what the Earth Nation could do without meat! Not that they couldn't also make excellent meat dishes, but in the cold tundra of the Southern Water Tribe there wasn't many plants that grew. Usually they relied on the sea.

Tiddas was pretty sure he made it clear that he wasn't interested in being friends, but the water bender boy seemed to be very persistent and even sat down next to him. Looking over his roasted duck leg at him, Tiddas was having a hard time mustering a rude comment. He seemed simple minded and Bing really seemed to like him.

”She likes these,” he said handing him a mango slice. ”Bing will eat just about anything, but she likes fruit and cabbage cookies the best.” Tiddas turned back to his own food but watched the other boy out of the corner of his eye.

Prologue: A World Mourns, A Flower Blossoms
Kitanna walked into the dining hall and grabbed all her favorites along with a couple new things to try. She sighed quietly and moved toward the sullen member of their party. Siku was already talking to him, but she decided to follow up with her own brand of friendliness. She sat down on Tiddas' other side and gestured to his plate. "Do you always eat stuff like that? Do you like trying new things? I don't like it much but my mom always encouraged me to so I try for her. I love meat dishes and fruit. Those are my favorites. But not all meat dishes. Some are just plain weird. And I tried this fruit one time that tasted gross! I was convinced it was rotten and so I took it back to the market but the seller laughed at me and told me that is how they're supposed to taste! I couldn't believe it! Why would anyone eat that?! Anyway, I am really excited to be here with everyone. I'm sure we'll work well together once we work out all the kinks and get to know each other, don't you think so? What do you think of Teichou? He must have so many cool stories. I wonder if we could get him to share some of them with us? I think being here with him and the others will be quite the adventure." Finally she paused to take a bite of her food. She looked around at everyone to see how they were liking their dishes and they were all staring at her like she'd grown another head. "What?"  Kitanna asked innocently.

Digging back into his food, Tiddas was beginning to think the waterbender wasn't that bad. Siku he thought his name was, at least he was calm and quiet even if he was a weak fighter. Then the fire nation girl sat down and started jabbering. A lot. And didn't quit. Tiddas strongly resisted the urge to shove a bean roll in her mouth to shut her up.

”Where I come from, you are happy just to be able to eat. Do you ever stop talking?” he asked, genuinely curious.

Prologue: A World Mourns, A Flower Blossoms
Tikanni noticed that Kitanna and Siku had taken up seats next to Tiddas who'd seemingly tried to sit as far away as possible. She sighed, as she was not going to eat away from her brother out of spite. But she wanted to.
"She's stopped several times, though she does seem to get a lot of words out in a very short space of time. I wonder if that's a technique? Or perhaps an art form of the Fire Nation? Hmm. I imagine living in the desert makes it hard to grow food as well. It's much the same where I'm from, but thankfully we have the sea to bring us fish and some edible plants." Siku glossed over Tiddas's harsh words, likely not realizing they were intended to be cruel. Tikaani noticed, however.
"He doesn't care, Siku. He'd prefer we left him alone while he eats." she said, sitting down next to her brother and taking a bite of food. Siku looked at her confused and then back to Tiddas.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't... do all your people eat alone? Our tribe rarely did. I still find it odd to eat just me and Tikaani. I wa-... oh." he stopped as Tikaani nudged him in the ribs.
"Did Jinsei mention if he'd be eating as well? If not I'm going back to finish off those Moon peaches."

Prologue: A World Mourns, A Flower Blossoms
Jinsei entered carrying a cloth wrapped bundle. He helped himself to a few things but left his plate over half empty. He joined the rest of them at the table and set the bundle next to him as he ate his meager meal and casually sipped his tea. His eyes rested on the door as if waiting for someone else to enter. His mind was abuzz thinking over his strategies though he put up a calm and collected facade at the table. It was always exciting to fight someone more skilled and experienced than yourself as it brought out more of your own potential as you struggled to make up the differences.

Tiddas couldn't help but sigh at Siku's sudden babbling and just when he thought he might get along alright with the guy. He eyed his brother as he approached the table, not saying a word but certainly thinking a few things. There was part of him that hoped they would spar soon so he could teach him a good lesson in being prepared and another that could tell that he had been seasoned better than most of his companions.

"If you are talking, you can't be eating and that defeats the purpose of lunch," he simply replied as he curiously watched Jinsei cross the room with his bundle. Tiddas figured he wouldn't have to wait long to see what it was, the mealtime was almost over and one of the chatty ones would like ask him before then.

"You'd better take the peaches if you want them, some pirate might come along and steal them out from under your nose," he jabbed pettily.

Tikaani slammed her chopsticks down and it was all Siku could do to keep her from jumping to her feet. She looked at him, fire in her eyes. Siku shook his head. She clenched her hands into fists and turned away.
"Tiddas, let me apologies for my brother's earlier comments. They were mean words said in the heat of a moment best left in the past." he knew his sister was too proud to admit she was wrong. But he saw no sense in them fighting one another.
"The point of this meal was to talk, my friend. To get to know one another. This too is a lesson. Learning about one another can teach us much. Not only about our team, but also ourselves. For example, you come from the Si Wong Desert. It must be a struggle to survive there, with so little in the way of vegetation and animals. The harsh heat makes for tough people, am I right?" he nudged Tikaani who turned around begrudgingly and listened to his point.
"Tikaani and I are from the far south. Little grows where we come from, and most of the animals live near the oceans. Both our peoples live in difficult climates that force us to work together to survive. If I was holding back against you, it was because I wished you no harm, not because I did not respect your skills. I do not wish anyone harm." he left out the part where he seriously injuring several boys who's only crime was bullying him before becoming pacifistic.
"You saw Tikaani's bout, he would have hit poor Kitanna had he not seen her concern at the last moment. As much as I respect your stance on not holding back, you should learn to respect restraint. Simply because you can harm someone, doesn't mean you should. Even in the heat of a life or death battle." he took a sip of his team and let them all take in his words.

Prologue: A World Mourns, A Flower Blossoms
Kitanna peered around the grumpy guy to observe Siku in a new light. He sounded wise and mature beyond his years. Meanwhile, Tiddas seemed to think he was the only one worthy of being here. She'd prove him wrong, no matter what. "We all have our own reasons for coming here and I think it's fair to say we don't need to compete for who had it the hardest growing up. We ALL faced difficulties and trials. We should make an effort to get along, not argue! I know we can do it, guys! It'll just take time. She smiled at everyone and stood up. "Well, I'm full. I'm going to wait for the last match to start." She took her plate and cup to the bucket of water that was waiting and walked away.

Tiddas couldn't help but wonder if Siku was constantly having to put his brother in his place and was secretly glad his relationships with his brothers were good ones. Just the thought of them made his chest feel like it was constricting and his appetite escaped him.

Pushing his food away, he kind of glazed over while the waterbender was talking as his mind thought over the events that lead up to him being here. He guessed enlisting in the White Lotus was better than both Bellus and himself sitting in a cell in the Ba Sing Se prison but he still blamed himself for getting them into trouble in the first place. By the time Tiddas started paying attention again, the girl was babbling on so he just pushed himself away from the table and left without excusing himself.

Tiddas had walked away while she was talking. She knew he was irritable but honestly, if he was going to be downright rude too, she might roast him in the middle of the night. That thought made her giggle. As she passed by him, she quietly said, "I'm sorry our existence is an inconvenience to you. I sincerely hope you don't continue down your current path. It's dark and lonely." He didn't even acknowledge she had spoken. Kitanna decided to be the one who walked away this time, so she turned on her heel and headed back to the training room.

Jinsei had hoped he could bait Teichou into overeating right before the match but he hadn't come to join them. He either ate elsewhere or not at all. A shame to have missed out on stacking the odds in his favor. But now was time to show his skills. He placed the bundle on the ground and carefully unwrapped it. "Master Rai Shen only permitted me to use these on special occasions. I think this would qualify." he said raising 2 hook swords from their storage. He entered the ring and took up a high stance as close as he could to Teichou. The earthbender would be at quite an advantage at a range so he wanted to deny that opportunity. He would also have to watch out for those hands, that dai lee technique would be difficult to escape from. "I am prepared. "

2 base dice plus skilled swordsman distinction.

16:06, Today: Jinsei rolled 2 using 3 Fudge dice ((0, 1, 1)).

Teichou fired a small barrage of rock in response to his advance but Jinsei managed to dance to one side of it. However it was followed by him raising a large earthen wall between them. As it ascended Jinsei leaped and used the swords to grapple to its peak. He then used the upward momentum to flip himself over the top and land right behind his opponent. Closing the gap between them was his first battle, and now he had won it. But he had to press the advantage, keep up momentum. The blades swirled about like a storm, small glints off of their steel was all that could be seen as he tried to force Teichou back against his own wall.

Teichou backed up to the wall. He was astounded by how well Jinsei was doing. His heart swelled up with pride, but it wouldn't be fair for Jinsei if Teichou just played defense. The large man smirked, and sank into the ground.

Teichou rolled 1 using 3 Fudge dice with rolls of 0, 1, 0. Using the base 2, and his Ex Dai Li Agent, his pool is 3. Keeping 2, his total is 1.

Before Jinsei could react, Teichou was completely subterranean. After a few moments, and a faint rumble from beneath Jinsei's feet, Teichou bursts behind his opponent. If this were a real match, Teichou would strike at his opponents vital spots. But this was a practice bout, so Teichou simply places his bare hand upon Jinsei's shoulder.

16:51, Today: Jinsei rolled 1 using 3 Fudge dice with rolls of 0, 1, 0.  base 2, skilled swordsman.

He raised one blade to strike over his shoulders in a sweeping motion while he got the other in position. Teichou leaned back to avoid the attack and in that moment Jinsei hooked the other behind his ankle and pulled his foot forward. Following through with the spinning motion he ended up face to face with the earthbender. Teichou may have lost footing, but Jinsei was not in a position to strike. It was a race to see who could recover first.

He saw Teichou reach for the sword around his ankle. That means he's not guarding! Using the downward force he rolled forward and planted both feet firmly into teichou's sternum, kicking as hard as he could. The massive man fell back and Jinsei recovered his blades.

The room was silent as Teichou surrendered the fight to Jinsei's impressive display of skill. Siku was the first one to cheer, followed quickly by Tikaani.
The brothers walked up behind the young swordsman and looked at each other with a conspiritorial grin as Teichou excused them for the day. With a nod, they took Jinsie up by the feet and over their shoulders. The marched him around the room, cheering his praises into an impromptu song.
