Class proceeds much like this for the rest of the period, alternating between the two artist's painting and Emily playing, with Rena having small tips for both students here and there, but for the most part having little to actually teach them up front.

As the class period comes to a close, Rena and Tammy put the finishing touches on their portraits.

Tamera's is remarkably lifelike, considering that Emily is the subject matter. The paint that she used has a level of translucence to it, even though it's kind of thick on the canvas, which makes Emily's glass form shine properly. Emily can see that the image has a fully rendered look to it - round things appear round if she ignores the fact that she knows perfectly well that it's paint on a canvas.

Rena's painting, by contrast, takes a more whimsical approach to colour and winds up feeling flatter. The paint that she used is much thinner but lacks the translucency that Tammy's has. While Tamera's painting looks exactly like the way Emily was standing - perfectly still - Rena's manages to somehow make it feel like she was in motion.

Emily looks back and forth with uncertainty on her face.  "Ummm...  is it cheating if I call it a draw?  This one has a sort if shine that looks more like me but this one looks more like you actually just froze a moment in time."

She gives a helpless shrug.  "If that makes sense.  I don't really have the background to make a smart sounding comment."

Emily is silent for a long moment before pointing at Rena's.  "Probably this one.  Tammy doesn't work with paint as much though so it doesnt seem quite fair.  Maybe if these were drawn she would take it.  They're still both really cool though."

Emily puts away her violin as the artists clean up with a mostly empty look on her face before shaking her head lightly.  As she waits for class to end she steps over to the keyboard and lets her fingers trail across the keys silently.
