"If so it looks like an invisible one... Which would be cool." Emily gets a little more lively with the joke and then goes back to scanning the room.

"What's that? Are you volunteering to be drawn for us, Tammy?" Rena says with a wide grin.

Tammy stiffens and then rapidly waves her hands in negation, "Oh no, that's quite alright."

"Is that so? What do you think, Emily?" Rena asks with a mischevious twinkle in her eye.

Emily shrugs and shakes her head  instead of playing along.  "I'm pretty sure you need some actual talent for that.  She's got the skills out of the two of us, not me."

Rena snaps her fingers, clearly disappointed.

"You're more into music then, Emily?"

Emily gives a mechanical nod.  "It's been two years since I really had a chance to play, but yep.  Pretty much."

Rena's enthusiasm increases once more as her curiosity is piqued, "Oh? What do you like to play?"

She leans forward in her eagerness, and from that distance, Emily can just barely smell a hint of marijuana coming from Rena.

Emily raises an eyebrow but doesn't make any other sign that she notices the smell.  "A lot of things.  The Violin more than anything else.  The trumpet's probably out now, but there's still the piano, guitar, cello, a few woodwinds, and I liked to sing.  Glass Harmonium voice isn't exactly what most people want to hear though."

You can tell the gears are working in Rena's head by the fact that her eyes are darting around entirely too much, then she snaps her fingers again and says, "The violin! That's what I was forgetting! Doc didn't buy one for the school, so I brought one with me, and I couldn't remember why."

Rena dashes off across the room to a small table where her (entirely too large) purse is sitting next to a carrying case, the latter of which she picks up and returns to present it to Emily.

"Tah-dah!"

Emily gives Tammy what passes for a raised eyebrow.  "Yeah, I can't guess why."

When the case returns Emily accepts it almost gingerly.  She sets it down and gently opens it her eyes widening just slightly as she lifts it from the case and carefully inspects it.  Her fingers run gently across the soundboard "This is... More than I was expecting with the no budget talk.  Is this?... How long was the spruce aged for do you know?"

"Yes, yes, I know, but it's actually for my anxiety disorder," Rena says with a shrug.

"As for the wood, I have no idea. It's been sitting in the attic for ages, and I'm not even sure how it got there. And the budget thing, well, it's not like there's no money but they already spent it on a bunch of stuff that will probably just collect dust," she says, shaking her fist at the air in exasperation.

Emily nods once and finishes laying everything out in front of her.  With a tilt of her head and concentration written on her features she gently blows away the last of the dust and begins tuning the instrument.

Slowly a few millimeters at a time a clear resonant tone begins to fill the room, and a small smile starts to tug at the corners of her mouth.

Rena and Tamera talk briefly about Rena's anxiety disorder, painting, still life paintings, and are setting up easels, canvases, and paints. And then they just kind stop to stare at Emily as she plays.

Finally satisfied with her work Emily pauses to look around the room.  With both Tamera and Rena looking straight at her she glances away.  If she could blush she almost certainly would.  "So uhh...  I'm not too sure how this is going to go.  I haven't really had a chance to play in a long time.  I know I've said it but it's still true.  So sorry if this sucks I guess."  She gives a mechanical sigh and raises the bow hesitantly.

The first notes are hesitant almost mechanical.  Its obvious that she's uncomfortable.  As the first few moments pass though a change starts to manifest in the air.  Her posture begins to shift as she turns herself from her audience playing in profile.  The seemingly delicate glass of her fingers flows across the strings with a liquid fluidity and a slow warmth seeps into the piece as the music rises to fill the room.  By the end of the first movement her audience has floated out of her mind along with the lingering hesitation.

One movement after another Emily continues to work her way through the piece.  Finally after half an hour she finishes slowly lowering the bow as she comes back to the world.  She gives a small frown as she glances at Tammy and Rena.  "I'm not as good as I used to be but I guess... it's a start anyway."

A smile blossoms across her face and it's obvious Emily is fighting it back down.  "Ummm... Good enough to have a career and be a free meal ticket?"   She shrugs with a hint of a rueful smile.  "That doesn't really matter anymore.  I can't really perform like this."

Tammy, by contrast, looks thoughtful, looking off into space and idly twirling the paintbrush in her hand around her fingers.

"Umm, sure.  Thanks.  I can do that."  Emily gives Rena a grateful nod and walks over to Tammy after a moment.  "Is everything alright?  You seem kind of out of it."
