This is the thread for Emily's investigation on the morning of Saturday, September fifth.




After breakfast, an event that holds little interest to Emily, to begin with, she finds herself with time on her hands - homework was pretty light on this first week, after all...

Emily finds herself in the foyer glancing around idly.  She makes a slow circuit almost as if looking at the area for the first time, letting her fingers trail against the wall until she comes to the sitting room.  Peeking inside she wanders over to the bookshelf and looks it over for a moment before grabbing a book of poetry and flopping into a chair.  She spends several minutes leafing through the pages with her usual detached look.

Emily notices a handful of faint hums that she hadn't noticed before. The glass they correspond to must be very tiny indeed. There are about six of them just outside the front door of the mansion and one in the foyer. All of them are elevated somewhat, near to the ceiling.

Slipping the book back on the shelf Emily calmly gets up stopping to glance at the Dining Hall.  Crossing the Foyer again she pauses at the door to each classroom on the far side before giving the Dartboard in the Rec Room a half-hearted try.

Emily can hear several more small hums in some of these rooms. The science classroom has three, which she can clearly pick out as being in the three corners of the ceiling that are not next to the door. The recreation room has one as well, again near to the ceiling but in the middle of the wall opposite the humongous television.

Emily finishes her circuit of the downstairs, passing by any left over offices before making her way upstairs.  Once there she slips into the bathroom to wash her hands giving the mirror a close look as she pats them dry.  Finally she works her way back to the dorm hall.  She walks slowly trailing her fingers along the wall again as she goes until she reaches the end and her room.  Leaving the door open she sits down on her bed and starts flipping through the pages in her math textbook.

Each of the rooms that comprise the nurse's office has one of the small signatures in it, and much like the recreation room they seem to be across from something valuable. There doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary in the dorm section.

The better part of an hour passes before Emily gets up again.  This time she leaves her things behind and heads outside.  She pauses to look around briefly before making her way to the gym and wanders through building slowly and methodically with a frown on her face.

Now that she can see the outside at the same time, Emily is pretty sure two of the signatures by the door are facing said door, from different angles. The other four seem to be pointed out at the grounds.

She doesn't sense anything out of the ordinary in the gym, although she notes that the blood has been cleaned up and some partially successful efforts to repair the armour plating have been made, yet the room is still in its armoured state.

With a sigh Emily makes her way out and back to the grounds before investigating the combi-building.  She moves through the accessible parts slowly her frown deeper than ever.

Nothing seems out of the ordinary in the combi-building, at first. But something that seemed to be a larger object at first glance actually seems to be a large number of smaller objects, each about the same size and composition as the other small signatures Emily found.

It's located in the Industrial Arts room, near the floor.

Finally Emily leaves the building to trail along the edge of the grounds.  She walks along the fence line slowly doing her best to enjoy the empty grounds.  When she reaches the front gate she stops for a couple minutes to stare idly at the world beyond.

The surrounding country is beautiful, almost serene, with spots of green dappling the dark stone of the mountains. Off in the distance, she can see the town of San Hares, with its comparatively ugly square buildings. There seem to be more cars around than there is during the weekdays, but it's hard to see clearly - the impression comes more as the distant choir of windshields than anything.

While she's standing there, she notices that the collection of tiny signatures from the combi-building seems to be moving.

"Need something?"

Emily is certain the cardboard box contains the tiny glass pieces she heard earlier.

Looking around a little trying to make sure I've got the ins and outs of this place memorized."  She pauses shifting from one foot to the other before finally pointing at the box.  "Is that for some sort of project here or something?"

Given his outfit, demeanor, and the giant wad of keys that include the faculty restricted areas of the school, Emily concludes that this man must be Jameson Kronner, the handyman Doctor Henningsen mentioned.

"Nothing dangerous, I assure you. Just wander over by the lab somewhere, and see if you can hear a certain kind of glass, the kind they use in large tanks of liquid. The container should be, oh, two meters tall, and one across. If it's there. If it's not there, that's fine. Just take a listen for it, and I'll show you what's in the box," Jameson says, shaking the box slightly.
