Re: [Conspiracy] Terrible Knowledge  (Saturday 9-5-15 Afternoon)
There are no obituaries for Tamera Bradford. Which is not entirely an indicator of anything, since you have to buy those.

What he does find with a slightly broader search is an article in a high school newspaper, commemorating her life and art. It even lists a date and time for the funeral.

There is a retraction in the same newspaper four months later that gleefully informs everyone that Tammy will be joining them next year.

Re: [Conspiracy] Terrible Knowledge  (Saturday 9-5-15 Afternoon)
There is a disturbing lack of information about the Redwater incident. The page for the town on the county website hasn't changed, there have been no further news reports whether tv, paper, or web based, and nobody is crying out in outrage or mourning the loss of so many lives. There are a handful of social media complaints about the detour people have to take instead of driving through the town, citing the massive reconstruction work after the destruction of buildings Daniel caused - an event that is clearly fabricated, as the file clearly shows a lack of destruction to property. Most such conversations include a statement along the lines of "at least nobody died, though."

Re: [Conspiracy] Terrible Knowledge  (Saturday 9-5-15 Afternoon)
At Keri's suggestion, Tony starts looking for the relatives, and finds much the same. But when he looks into their affairs a bit more deeply at her prompting, a horrifying pattern begins to emerge. The first relative looked up is starting a new business after finding an investor. The second group of relatives is going on a world class cruise vacation for the holidays. The third won a lottery prize. On and on it goes...

Re: [Conspiracy] Terrible Knowledge  (Saturday 9-5-15 Afternoon)
"Well, this is all super weird," Tony says after poring over the information on Redwater.

"I guess it makes sense that the general public would be kept in the dark about what actually happened, but the construction work, the social media posts, and the 'happy coincidences' of those relatives' financial windfalls reek of hush money. We still haven't found the 'who,' though. Could be the government alone, but it could be another private entity with pull."

Tony lets out a frustrated sigh. He rubs the sides of his face, followed by his eyes. He stares at the computer screen before looking back at his smartphone.

"Any ideas?" he asks Keri.

"I guess there is no problem too big to solve if you have enough money. I'd bet that soon enough they'll open a shiny new upgraded route that bypasses Redwater entirely. Get it off the road system, and then just let it fade away." Keri sits back. "No way to tell if anybody else is involved, unless we were able to trace each and every payoff. I'm stumped."

"Same here," Tony says in resignation. "I'm out of ideas."

Tony leans back. He glances at Keri, and then looks away as if a little embarrassed.

"Hey, uh...mind if I ask you something? I...uh...couldn't help but notice that you have siblings... What's that like?"

By the way, I may not have been clear enough, but it's not Daniel's relatives. Daniel doesn't appear to even have any living relations. The relatives of the entire 1,200 residents have all been hushed, though.

"Loud," she says promptly. "Four kids, plus my folks... when everyone's at the house you can hardly hear yourself think. Not that-" she stops. "I mean, I love them, but I've never quite fit in with them even before I started shocking everyone if I'm not careful. Did you ever wish you weren't an only kid?"

Re: [Conspiracy] Terrible Knowledge  (Saturday 9-5-15 Afternoon)
"All the time," Tony replies.

"Both of my parents worked---still do, so they were usually too busy to spend much time with me. That meant I had no one to play with when I was growing up. I could read books, play with legos, or listen to music when I was home alone.  All fun stuff, but that still doesn't keep you from feeling lonely.

"Though,"
he concedes, "it probably also feels lonely if the people you're growing up with don't get you."

Tony glances towards the door and then back at Keri. He gives her a lopsided grin.

"I think we might be the only two in our little circle of secrets who don't have something big to hide about our past."

She grins back. "Shame we didn't grow up near each other. I'm pretty sure any one of mine would have been glad to trade me to you. Eva especially, since then she would have had a room to herself."

"It's looking like it." She grins again, adding "Unless it's SO secret that even the government doesn't know about it. Maybe I'm secretly from outer space."

"I know, right? That would have been so cool. Especially since it sounds like you were also surrounded by people who were more interested in soccer than building machines or figuring out why the world works the way it does.

"Having to share a room...ugh,"
Tony grimaces, "I guess maybe being an only child isn't so bad." He smirks at the end.

When Keri mentions being an alien, Tony narrows his eyes. He stares intently at her, as if sizing her up. He leans towards her, and sniffs the air about a foot away from her, and takes a beat before speaking.

"Nah, you're human," he says, sticking out his tongue jokingly, "don't ask me how I know."

"All humans---and half-Coatis---do," Tony teases, "and boy do I know it. The boys' bathroom here? Not a fun place. Ever.

"Though, you DO smell a bit like o-zone,"
he says. "That probably comes as a shock to you."

This seems to have played out, but there is a critical question that must be answered: What happens to the disc?

"Ozone? That's not too bad, I guess," Keri says "and it makes sense." She ejects the disk from the computer and holds it out to him.  "Want to hide this, just in case we ever want to look at... anything on there?"

Sometime after this scene Emily will ask for the disc back since shes the only one thats "supposed" to have it.  She's trying to keep everyone else distanced from her deal with Kronner.

"Yes," Keri answers. "And I wish. I can't run anywhere near that fast, it's more like a car. And not a really good car, either. So what's the cool thing?" she sits up.

"Ah, okay. Well, the cool thing is the view from the rooftop. I go up there sometimes because it's quiet, and the awesome thing about being out in the middle of nowhere is that you can get a really good view of the stars...

"However,"
he says with a sheepish grin, "we'll have to find another way to get up there. I normally just climb... I wonder if my bedsheets would work..."

"I'd like that. I've never really had a chance to stargaze before..." Keri says wistfully. "Is there a way up there from inside, or a ladder?"

About to head to his room, Tony stops mid-stride.

"Maybe...Probably? I can check if you give me a sec." He opens Keri's window, and deftly climbs out onto the side of the house. He calls back to her from the outside.

"So you never tried stargazing? Were the city lights too bright?"

OOC:

@ Aeternitas: Are there any access hatches, balconies, or fire escapes that Keri can use to climb up to the roof? Also, you could probably open up a side thread for this if you like. ^_^

Re: [Conspiracy] Terrible Knowledge  (Saturday 9-5-15 Afternoon)
I'll get you a side thread in a minute. The sun is still uo in this thread, so you couldn't go stargazing anyway.

Tony and Keri are able to locate a drop down ladder that leads to the attic - which is almost completely empty save for some left over construction materials, paint, and the like - and from there they can get onto the roof by climbing out one of the small windows.
