He gets up and carefully puts his bible away. Stepping out into the hallway, he closes his door behind and heads to Tammy's room. He knocks on her door and enters if she invites him in.
"Tony told me you want to watch something. Sounds good to me."

She opens her eyes gingerly once he is inside and smiles at him softly, "Yea, I thought some of us could hang out, watch some anime or a movie or something. I'll make tea and see if there are snacks we can have once my head stops spinning. Tony was helping me experiment with my quirk a bit, and it made me dizzy again."
She gestures to the empty seating cushion next to her and adds, "Would you like to sit?"

When I thought of the idea I was thinking of an anime that I wanted to show to Blake if he hasn't seen it because something he said reminded me of it. But it's kind of, you know, not a very good anime to show to people who aren't familiar with anime and the types of things that occur. Not to mention that it had to be heavily censored. Heavily like, you can't actually see some entire scenes. It's not porn or something, though. You can't show breasts on Japanese tv."
She shifts a little, testing her vertigo, and finds that she can crawl over to her computer and turn it on readily enough.
"There's all kinds of stuff, though. I know a site where we can watch the major movies if we decide that's more interesting. Or if we decide on anime there are a bunch of great ones that everyone should really see, if you ask me. Soul Eater comes to mind because it's got a great mix of comedy and drama with some of the best action sequences ever made in an anime. The art style is really cool, too, and I rather enjoy the fact that the main heroic character is a nerdy girl who kicks butt with a scythe."

"Hey, Tony said you wanted to watch a show or something?" He pauses, kind of staring at, or through, Tammy for a moment, and when he blinks and refocuses, you can see something pass over his eyes. They flick to Angel, then back to Tammy again, and a smile curves one corner of his mouth. "Unless there's been a change of plans?"

"I hope you don't mind," he says, "but I've got to stretch out my back for a bit." Tony looks up at the ceiling, and then jumps up. He grabs the ceiling with his claws, and pulls up his legs. Once his feet have a grip on the ceiling, he lets go with his hands so that he hangs upside down. A few seconds later, a faint sound of a back cracking can be heard.
"Ah, much better," Tony says, still upside down.
"So, what's the consensus so far?"

"Soul Eater it is then! Assuming nobody objects. Oh, would you guys like the subtitles in Spanish or in English?" she asks, picking up her phone and tapping on the screen a bunch with it turned longways.

I'm kinda in the same as you, Angel. I know lots of bits and pieces about anime, but I've really never watched any...", He scowls, "Dad hated any tv. So I haven't seen much."
He glances about the room, then sits down in the hall, leaning against the door-frame, adding with a smirk. "I'll just sit out here though, the room's not that big."
OOC: I was intentionally having Blake misread the situation, and trying to get a reaction. I haven't mentioned it yet, but Blake can sense the IR, can could tell Tammy was flushed from the vertigo.

"Eh?" Tammy says, drawing out the sound, "Soul Eater is a good one since it's kinda like western cartoons. It's not very big on the major tropes for anime and doesn't rely on an understanding of their culture. It's kind of bloody, though, but it doesn't go past that. Oh, and come to think of it, one of the characters swears a lot when she's really mad."
She turns to look at Tony with a complete lack of surprise at his position and adds, "Please clean up any bits of ceiling that come down with you."
She turns back to her tapping and swiping on the phone... but now she's looking at her computer monitor, which is currently pulling up a website that streams anime videos.

With a deft flip, Tony lands back on the ground right-side-up. He manages to land softly and quietly on the carpet.
He takes a cushion and sits down on the ground.
"It's like the only positive thing that I've gotten out of my powers. It's a lot easier to get around and explore."

That's why I started calling them quirks, actually, since a quirk is like, something annoying but not exactly anything you can do anything about."
A couple more taps on her phone, and the video starts playing, "I'll go make some tea and hunt for munchies. Blake, I think you'll fit in here just fine, so come on in."
If nobody says anything to make her linger, Tammy gets up and heads out towards the kitchen and dining area.

"If you say so..." he says, in a tone clearly meaning, this is never going to work. And as Tammy leaves, he begins the process of trying to get fit in the room, without breaking anything. This does however, mean that he bumps into the other two more than a few times as he tries to find some place to fit, eventually squeezing into the floor space by the closet.
OOC: I'm not sure what the actual dimensions of the room are, but I'm pretty sure its gonna be real snug with me folded up in here.

As Blake squeezes into Tammy's room, Tony manages to twist out of the way to make it easier for the large man to find a place to sit. Occasionally, he hops onto the ceiling to give Blake more space. Once he settles down, Tony hops back down onto the ground and sits down. He glances over at 聲gel and Blake.
"I'm glad this isn't awkward or anything."

He thinks for a moment, and chuckles; "Now that you mention it, I guess its a bit ironic that the buildings I'd fit best in now, I'd fit the least. Stadiums, libraries and the like."

Also, my transformation left me with sensory overload, and I'm still getting a handle on it. I was always a little shy growing up, but now it's worse that my ears and nose keep picking up new things. It's why I've been stealing up onto the roof of the house to be alone.
"Can you climb, Blake?" Tony asks, "If you can, the roof is really nice if you need a break from hunching. It gives a good view of the grounds."

"By the way, guys," he asks, "have you noticed anything strange about Dr. H and his team? Like, have they demonstrated any kind of mutant powers or 'quirks' as Tammy calls them? Because, well...we were experimenting with her powers and...she managed to pick up something from them and people in the area.
"We're not sure if that means they're mutants or if she can just pick up life signs---to borrow a Star Trek phrase for lack of a better term---but it's probably good to keep an open mind. Especially with what has happened with us."

His tone is casual, but he still glances about the room, hoping to spot any tell-tale warmth of operating electronics.
"Still, government doesn't feel right if you ask me. No way they'd be letting us roam around. That and it's nowhere near sterile enough. I mean, look at this hardwood, this stuff doesn't come cheap." He gives the wood rim around the room an gentle knock. "Same thing goes if it was corporate. We'd be in a basement somewhere, not the boonies."
"I think maybe the most likely is Henningsen having corporate backers, or just being privately rich. Its the only good explanation I can figure for both the location, and the budget concerns."
He again turns to the show, only to realize a detail he missed. "Crap, he did say the school stuff was official, though, so the government has to know something." He shrugs, admitting confusion on the subject.

She sets the bowl down first, where all the boys can easily reach it, before sitting on her cushion and placing the tea set in front of her so she can pour cups for everyone, "There aren't any cameras in the bedrooms or bathrooms because that would violate privacy laws, but I noticed them in the office where we took our physical, and I'd expect some to be in the classrooms. We're located in the middle of nowhere but less than an hour from a small military base, at least at Google's speed. If the department of homeland security put up a chunk of it, biotechnology firms put up another chunk, and Mr. Henningsen ... actually, maybe it's his wife's money? That would explain her attitude."
Tammy begins passing around the tea, a rich brown coloured brew this time around.

聲gel was about to say something when Tammy returned derailing his train of thought. It takes him a few seconds to realize what she's saying.
"So the military is involved along with money people," he seems to get angry quickly. "I know why they're interested in Blake and me, they probably have visions of me wading through enemy troops. How can you all be so calm?"
He gets up. "I need a run or something that needs to be hit. I'm sorry."
He steps out of the room. While heading to his room, he pulls off his shirt, shoes, and socks. Tossing them into his room, he heads out for a run.

Half to himself, "Might not be the worst thing though. A different path perhaps, but it could still get me where I wanted to go."
Carefully, he takes a cup of tea from Tammy, and raises it in thanks before taking a sip; a rather amusing sight, given the his size.

Tony shifts over to give Blake a little more room in the area. He looks down at the ground, closing his eyes in concentration. As he does, his ears swivel about as though searching for something.
"Maybe I'm naive, sheltered, or just a hopeless optimist, but I don't get the feeling that they're interested in doing something bad to us. I mean, we're all here of our own accord, and this is a lot of effort to just turn us into weapons or lab specimens.
"Anyways," he finishes while opening his eyes, "this is letting me finish high school without being called a freakshow. I'm just gonna enjoy this as long as I can."

Today: Tonauac 'Tony' Torres rolled 24 using 1d20+6. Perception-Listening for strange noises.
This is more of a roleplay roll than looking for anything really special. However, I figured I'd try and see what it might uncover. What's the use of super hearing if you never use it? :-p

After a pause, while she watches the show and thinks, she says, "I think they're trying to protect us, overall. If it's true that there are competing interests invested in this project, they could be playing them against one another. That's not going to work in the long term, but it might buy enough time to garner additional support, maybe do some public relations. They seem to know a few things about us already. While 聲gel and I were doing the physicals, Mr. Henningsen had a device that could extract blood from 聲gel, even though his skin can't be pierced. Something that would have to have been invented, prototyped, tested, and then custom manufactured..."
Tamera's head pops back up then she reaches for her phone with no small amount of hurry, "And patented!"

"Hold on. There's no way they've made something just to deal with Angel's quirks. Stuff like that takes years to get though patent approval, never mind prototyping and testing. Longer even for medical stuff. How long has Angel even had his powers? And how long have they known about us?" Blake quiets, waiting to see if Tammy finds anything on her phone, mind racing with further unanswerable questions.

"I hear some of the grown-ups talking," he tells the others. "It sounds like Dr. H, Ms. Olensson, and Ms. Schutz... I can't make out exactly what they're saying. The odds are that they're just talking about food based on the group---but want me to see if I can overhear something while you follow up on the patent search?" He looks at the others, his eyes wide with excitement. He clearly wants to go, but the fact that he is looking for approval from the others indicates that he is more interested in hearing his newfound friends' opinions before running off into mischief.

"If Prof. H has that many patents that you can pull up on public records, I bet there's more info on the Internet about her and the other people at this place..." Tony pulls out his own smartphone and begins his own query about the school and it's staff and faculty...

Tony quickly discovers that no matter how he formats his search entry, Professor Georgia Henningsen barely exists on the internet. She has a Facebook page that shows no information at all to public viewers aside from her marriage, not even a picture. It would be hard to tell it was even hers, were it not for the fact that Doctor Neil Henningsen's profile is complete and almost completely public. Her name also appears on several articles in major science journals, but all of them are behind a paywall.
Doctor Neil Henningsen has a much larger presence, such that he shows up in the results for the Professor no matter what Tony tries doing to filter him out. He's on a list of people consulted by a little-known congressional hearing regarding mutants, authored (or more likely, sponsored a lawyer to author) a bill proposing adding genetic diversity protections to existing anti-discrimination laws, and there's a newspaper article from the nearby city of Durango talking about the school, complete with a picture of Doctor Henningsen being run out of a town hall meeting in San Hares. Dennis is also in this picture.
Dennis himself has a very small presence, just a Facebook page that doesn't have all that much set as publically visible. What Tony can see is interesting, however, as it includes a picture of Dennis in a Marine Corps uniform with a whole lot of awards on his chest. Most of the things he publically shares are veterans issue or inspirational memes with a detectably Buddhist slant.
Erika Olensson has a larger presence consisting almost entirely of typical stuff like fashion, cooking, and cute animals.
Rena Flagg appears to have an entirely public profile on just about every social media site except Facebook, all of which is completely inundated with art and music oriented posts with a smattering of green living stuff and new age spiritual mumbo jumbo - most of which coincide in the same post.
Oops! Rena hasn't been introduced at this point in time. My bad!
Winona Schutz, the nutritionist, does not appear to exist online at all.

"Sure," he says to Tammy, waving at her as she heads out.
"Yo, Blake, check this out." Tony hands the smartphone over to Blake.
"Lots of interesting stuff on Dr. H. Not as much on his wife, though. Looks like Dennis is also a bit of a big deal. I'm not sure to make about Ms. Olensson, though. Well, unless you like cute animal pictures..."

"So they've definitely known about us, or people like us at least, for some time. Guess we'll have to wait and see what they're planning to do with us, huh?"
Blake ponders for a moment, "I bet you could get something out of the Doctor if you talked to him alone sometime. He doesn't strike me as the type to be good at hiding things."

"Yeah, you're probably right about Dr. H. It'd be a I'm not sure how good I'd be at doing it. I've never been much of a smooth-talker, before or after my transformation. As far as I know, animal magnetism wasn't one of the things I gained. How about you?" He gives a shrug with a lopsided smirk.
"Still, I'm liking what we're seeing. I'm pro-Occam's Razor, anti-conspiracy theory, so it looks like this group cares about people like us. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt."

"I'm a little inclined to agree with you though, it looks pretty good here. Mind you, where I come from, no one does something for nothing; so let's just say I reserve the right for an 'I told you so.'"
Finishing up with what he can read off the screen, he passes the phone back again. "Maybe I'll see if I can get something out of the doctor if I run into him. Before my change, I was pretty good at getting what I wanted out of people." Blake says, with a lopsided grin.

Tony sits back and starts watching the show. He glances out the door, and then returns his focus back to the computer screen.
"I wonder if 聲gel has calmed down. Dude is kind of a loose cannon."

Having accomplished that she looks between the three boys but doesn't say anything further yet.

He pulls out his smartphone and brings up the different websites with the information on Dr. H, Prof. H, Dennis, and Ms. Olensson. He hands it over to Tammy and 聲gel.
"This might make you feel a bit better about what's going on and where you are, dude," he adds to 聲gel as he pulls up the pages with Dr. H's pro-mutant efforts.
"There's still tons of questions to ask, but I think we're in a safe place while we hunt down the answers."

Finding Professor Henningsen's patents for medical devices or Doctor Henningsen's attempt to get legal protections for mutants are just icing on the cake. You can tell just by talking to them, even though Doctor Henningsen is, awkward and Professor Henningsen can be a bit, cold, they wouldn't be doing this just to set a trap. And then there's Dennis! I get the feeling like, he wouldn't do anything he doesn't want to do, and he wants to help."
Then she looks over at 聲gel and sets her hand on his arm, the small gesture silently carrying her support.

He looks down at Tammy's hand on his arm and gives her a smile. "Look, why don't we drop this for now. We can discuss it more once we know more. If you want to watch another show, I'm up for it. If not, I'll grab a shower as it turns out pond water isn't as clean as you might think."

It remained a tie to her and I kept going after she died even though my abuelo wouldn't go with me. He sort of blamed god for what happened.
"After my change, I fell through the wooden choir risers. Fortunately Father Maradona blamed it on old wood. But that wouldn't work again so..."
He shrugs. "I haven't been in a church in almost two years. I still pray and read the bible, but it's not the same. I loved the community of the church. I loved singing in the choir even though I wasn't good at it.
"The people here know we're mutants. I asked Larry about churches nearby. He gave me a couple of options, one being the church he goes to. He said, I'd likely draw some stares, but it shouldn't be too bad.
"By going to church, I let the locals see me in a human light. I give them a chance to know me and not fear me. Eventually I would like to join a choir again. Talking to you has helped me realize how unhealthy it was for me to isolate myself so completely."

"I haven't, like, had a particularly good track record with religion. I grew up in a family of intellectuals, you know, people that are basically scientists in mindset. So, it's like, really hard to ignore certain things about the religion, any religion, and just go along with it, because it doesn't make sense to me. Like, I tried Wicca for a little while, and without thinking I started talking about how I thought it was fascinating that the religion was made up by this dude named Gerald Gardner, and like, three of the other people in the coven lost their effin' minds over it. I still don't understand that. Like, I understand the event, but I don't really understand why it happened. I legit thought it was kinda cool how it all came to be, like, I was basically praising him."
She falls silent again for a moment as she thinks, "But I also think that maybe you shouldn't go alone. You just met Larry, right? So it's not like you know him very well just yet. Not to mention, none of us know the area. But I can find the way back here pretty easily if something happens, so like, I think I should go with you anyway."
Her hand is still on his arm.

He goes silent for a moment then shifts topics. "As for religion, you don't have to understand it. Or even believe it. I'm not sure I believe in God. I look at my faith as a guide on how to be a better person. The church provides a community and a way to connect with others.
"I'm not a scientist or even all that smart, but I'm not stupid either. The Church isn't perfect, I disagree with a number of positions the Church doctrine still holds. I'm pro-choice and haven't a problem with the LGBT community.
"This is a way for me to connect to the people here. To reach out to them through a common interest. I don't want them thinking we're some weirdos hiding out on this campus doing who knows what.
"Now, if you do come with me, we'll need a signal for when you should back off on a topic. Many people don't want to think about their faith, they don't want to question it, they just want to believe it. Upsetting that can upset them."

<Spanish>"Grandfather! It's 聲gel. I arrived and I'm okay."
He listens for a bit then speaks up again. "No, I don't have a phone in my room. This is Tammy's, sorry, I mean Tamera Bradford's cell phone. She's another student here. Yeah, another mutant, there's actually a number of us here."
He smiles as he listens for a bit. "No, they're not like me. Everyone has different abilities it seems. I haven't seen the military around at all. Don't worry grandfather, I'm fine. I'm safe. How are you? Don't forget to take your pills."
聲gel and his grandfather chat for a few minutes as 聲gel catches up on the local gossip. He briefly talks about the trip and what he's seen of the school. Eventually they run out of things to talk about.
"I should let you go grandfather," 聲gel says sadly. "I love you and I miss you. Yes, I'll visit when I can. Goodbye."</Spanish>
He hands the phone back to Tammy. "Thank you for that. It was good to talk to him again. I wonder when I'll have a chance to visit him."

He's careful to not move and disturb her as she leans against him. His arm moves slightly as if about to wrap around her shoulders, but stops quickly and returns safely to his side.

Like, I was totally worried that a mistake had been made, and I was the only quirkless student here. That would have been terrible! And on top of that I can't figure out how they would know I'm a mutant with a quirk like mine. Maybe they did a DNA test at the hospital after my accident?"
She sighs and turns her head so that she can look up at him, "I'm a lot more worried than I let on. I don't like it when people keep things from me. In my family, we're really open about everything. We don't even close our doors very often or anything, hence the standing screen I put there for privacy. But somebody has to put on a brave face, encourage everybody and help them feel at home, and there's no reason why it can't be me, and several reasons why it ought to be me."

"Her name is Keesha, and I hear she's graduating at the top of her class and going on to a nice college with a scholarship, but I haven't spoken to her in a while. We mostly just keep tabs on each other over Facebook and Twitter now. Last I heard her life goal is to be a psychologist, an addiction specialist. Her mom is an alcoholic, so."
