Re: The Forest Primeval

In reply to Stoney Applesmith (msg # 212):

Boris snorted and said, "I have a better idea. why don't you both go swive yourselves and tell us how it works out?

"Nothing good is down there. It's a death trap. I shouldn't need to explain how they work or what they're for because it's self-explanatory. This ramp doesn't lead to a pantry. There are bones down there. Our friend is probably down there. Or somewhere beyond. But either way he isn't going to bother us for the moment. Let's make sure the rest of this... temple? This accursed place has no one else that can block the passage behind us.

"Look. We are here to eliminate some Saracen bandits. It's obvious the rest of the Saracens are not down there so let's take care of them first, then we may loot this Godforsaken hole in safety and for the glory of God. Either way, I'm going to go back and keep an eye on the entry. Please join me."

He seemed a little amused if anything, not angry. But he started past the others, attempting to return the way they came.

OOC: I don't think it is wise to split up. Ondrea is more incline to search the space they are in then to turn back, but she will go with a majority vote. Can we cross the void ?"

Re: The Forest Primeval

Helping Larz back through the narrow passageway, you climb the stairs and emerge once more into the round, empty stone room.  So far, you have seen nor heard any signs of other occupants or creatures.  Exiting the room you descend the staircase and are greeted by the limited sunlight making its way to this section of the tunnel.  The only other direction to head still has the same tracks you noted when first entering the area.

In reply to The Powers That Be (msg # 223):

"I guess I can check for traps and such. Poor Larz almost lost a foot back there! I wish to emphasise that I am not a thief but I have, er, friends in low places. Who like to talk. Maybe I picked up enough to be of use?"

Boris took the lead in going deeper in the cavern, looking for what he'd been told was the tell-tale sign of a booby-trap like deadfall, pits, pungi stakes, and so on.

In reply to Boris Underhill (msg # 224):

"Don't care whether you're a thief or not lad. If you have any ability at all in checking for traps it would help." the barbarian replied. "Otherwise, I'll keep plowing forward and hope I don't kill myself, or someone behind me."

OOC: Larz will wait to see if anyone else wants to check for traps and such, otherwise he'll press forward.

In reply to Larzander Gunderzen (msg # 225):

Stumbling a little as he moves forward, takes a big drink.    Uncharacteristically Stoney offers to lead.  "I have a good sense for those things.  I dont practice finding them, but can determine them sometimes easily.  With the help of the Gods, I will move forward and lead the way."
Hammer out in front of him, he is using it to hold himself up tap on the ground listening to the sound it makes, moving forward.

Re: The Forest Primeval

As you begin to move down the passage, you find it differs from the previous in that it was not carved from the rock but actually constructed of large stones.  After only a few dozen yards it opens a great deal allowing all of you to easily walk upright and two-abreast if you so choose.  Everything appears symmetrical and built both properly and solid.  Soon, the passageway begins to resemble an actual hallway as it increases in size to accommodate three people in line.  The ceiling too had increased to at least twenty feet or so and the walls were lined with unlit torches.

In reply to Ondrea Avalor (msg # 230):

Boris nodded. "Where I come from, in Outremer, most Saracens are primitive, warlike and bestial. It is said that some, however, have mastered complex and dfficult forms of architecture. But this does seem far beyond the capabilities of those bandits we slew out in front of the town gates.

"I do not see anything dangerous. At a guess this seems like some kind of permanent temple or outpost."

"I guess I'm just lucky that way." the barbarian said smirking at his friend's comment. "I've got to be good for something."

"I believe you're correct, there's no way the goblins and such made this place. They don't have the skills for such things." he added.

Re: The Forest Primeval

As you continue down the grand hallway, you finally come to a strange intersection.  The passageway in front of you ends at a wall with two identical doorways; they both appear to run straight ahead in the direction you were already going.  The passageway on the left is open and unobstructed while the passageway on the right has a large, iron portcullis blocking the opening.

Ondrea provided protection as the other looked the gate over. Should her help be needed she will lend a hand or two.
