In reply to Stoney Applesmith (msg # 262):

Larz briefly considered swinging the massive two-handed sword in his hands at the thing attacking Boris. Not unless he wanted his new friend dead.

The barbarian rushed forward and touched the torch in his hand to the creature hoping that it would retreat from the flames.

13:18, Today: Larzander Gunderzen rolled 14 using 1d20+3.  attack with torch.

Re: The Forest Primeval

Boris: The thing has itself wrapped far to lightly around you to attempt really any action.  You're lucky you can wiggle a finger and still breath.  For the sake of argument though (and to save you from near certain doom; Ondrea smashed for a pretty decent amount of damage), I'll adjust the amount as it does make sense for Ondrea to have swung at its' head.  Your still ending up rather sore though XD

Larz: You quickly discover that while the creature does react to the fire, so does Boris.  You can easily roast it by holding the torch to it but you're pretty certain it will have some negative affect on Boris as well.

Ondrea/Stoney: Your combined strength is slowly starting to unfurl the creature, but it may take a little time.  Its strength is rather surprising given that it feels as thick as a riding cloak.

Ondrea uses her nails to gain purchase on the creature as she struggles with all her might to pull it off their team mate. "Boris hold on well have you out soon enough. Someone saw its head off."

Her muscles strain under her armour as she gives it her all.

Ondrea Avalor rolled 5 using 1d20+3.  Str check.

Re: The Forest Primeval

With the three of you straining against the beast, its mighty grip begins to loosen.  As you begin to pull back the monsters' flaps(?) it suddenly unfurls itself and quickly snakes away from the group, dropping Boris to the floor.  Upon reaching the far fall, the strange, sheet-like entity whirls around and faces you.  Its' underside is a stark, bone-white unlike the exterior.  It flashes a huge grin revealing an unsettling multitude of needle-like teeth hanging from its' mouth.  All the while those two, large, glowing red eyes never blinked nor wavered from the group.  Along its' top edge, on either side, sit three bony claws, or at least you assume they are claws.  A low, monotonous hum begins echoing from its' gaped jaws...

OOC: You all are now at -2 as far as attacks as a sort of numbness begins creeping into you.  The hairs on your neck begin to stand and a wave of unease begins to wash over you.  Boris...sorry, forgot about that torch.  While it stayed lit initially, due to holding it aloft nearest any airflow, it was quickly extinguished by the encroaching skin(?).  If you look closely, you can see where its' white underside has been singed by the flames.

Ondrea scoops down to pick up her hammer and then steps towards the beast. Raising her hammer behind her head she looks to connect with the monster this time, not having to worry about a team mate inside.

Ondrea Avalor rolled 9 using 1d20+6 with rolls of 3.  Attack 2.
Ondrea Avalor rolled 8 using 1d20+6 with rolls of 2.  Attack.

Not sure those hit.

Boris collapsed on the stony floor, pain radiating through his body. "Thank Jesus Christ! And thank you, my friends!" Scrabbling for his sword his hand closed over the pommel and he sheathed it. Instead, he fit a bullet into his sling and, circling around to the left, whirled and let fly!

OOC: Flank or rear shot?

03:08, Today: Boris Underhill rolled 20 using 1d20+1.  Sling +3, -2 = +1 THAC017.

Nice! Not a natural 20 but close.

03:22, Today: Boris Underhill rolled 2 using 1d4+1 with rolls of 1.  Sling Bullet Damage.

"No one..."
Unfortunately nearly sober from the recent events, Stoney, hammer out, charges the beast.  (I did say nearly)  He is a little fellow so not much room is needed to squeeze past Ondrea, and  swings his hammer strongly at the beast.
"...tries to eat..."
A resounding thud could be heard as his hammer stops in full swing as he strikes the scary creature.
"....my friends!"

Re: The Forest Primeval

Boris' shot lands with a resounding *WHACK* as its kinetic energy carries through into the stone wall behind.  The beast winces but stands its ground.  Ondrea rushes in but the killer flying carpet whips around in a flurry, deflecting her shots.  However, this buys an opportunity for Larz and Stoney to rush at the beast.  Stoney connects so hard the stone behind the creature cracked.  Larz swings like a possessed lumberjack and nearly cleaves the beast in two.  As Stoneys' hammer pins the beast temporarily, Larz cleaves through the monstrosity, leaving it like a ghost ship sail while a thick green fluid poured forth.  All the while the moan continues to emanate from deep within the now tattered beast.  Then you begin to notice the tone has suddenly changed...

OOC:  I need a saving throw vs. spells from everyone...if you fail you are seized with a sudden fear.

OOC: Actually, Larz my good man, you're in luck and the creature is considered large (approx. 8' from edge to edge).  I re-rolled your damage...unless you'd rather...
23:34, Today: The Powers That Be rolled 15 using 3d6+2.

Ondrea wondered what that sound was as she tried to thumb the beast with her hammer. With her mind else where she miffed her shot again and harmlessly swishes air with her weapon.

Ondrea Avalor rolled 2 using 1d20.  11 vs magical charm, fear, emotion or domination.
Ondrea Avalor rolled 9 using 1d20+6.  Attack.

Not sure if berserkers are immune to fear or not?

Hearing the noise the barbarian warrior felt himself start to have a strange sensation, he unleashed his only defense. He began yelling at the top of his lungs and working himself into a frenzy. (berserk rage)

When the beast lets out the new distinct variance of it's moan, Stoney stands still.  Listening intently to the noise, and being very careful not to move.  He has heard this sound before, or thinks he has.  Definitely knows that if he moves, it means certain pain would be felt upon his entire body.  Stoney stands very still in place.

Save is an 13  so missed.

Re: The Forest Primeval

Boris' lone shot rings true as his bullet disappears into the beasts right eye.  The low, guttural moaning is instantly silenced as the projectile ricochets around the creatures head, liquefying what would be considered a brain.  It collapses to the floor like a discarded cloak and lays motionless as a dark, green pool begins to form around it.

OOC: It was, in fact, a Fear based ability so anyone effected, although somewhat irrelevant now, will keep their distance from the remains for the next 3 turns.

Standing perfectly still, because if Stoney moves the creature will see him.  (Same logic as hiding under sheets while in bed.)

Ondrea still had her hammer above her head as she watched the creature fall to the floor. "That is the first time I have faced something like that." She lowers her weapon and begins to search the room to make sure it is safe.

OOC: As far as you can tell, the creature is quite dead.  After several minutes, and some serious mistreatment of the corpse, Stoney is convinced the monstrosity had expired and is able to roam freely once more.
