Apprehensively looking around for more of those things.
"What was that, any idea?  I need a drink!"

In reply to Stoney Applesmith (msg # 288):

Content that he had thoroughly burnt the creature to death, the barbarian searched around the room cautiously for signs of more of them. "Where to now?" Larz asked standing near Stoney.

In reply to Larzander Gunderzen (msg # 289):

Passing the wineskin to Larz..."Take a drink we all need it!"

"I am not a strategic planner, and not sure how secure this location is.  Boris, do you need a rest after that, I know I could rest for a spell."

I didn't mean to ignore your door question, sorry.  I dont think we thoroughly searched the room, yet.  This is the tapestry room, still.  I think.

Re: The Forest Primeval

While Larz finds no further presences in the room, he does find a small trove of copper pieces.  Apparently, the creature had a thing for them as, all told, you count 1000.  He also finds two unknown liquids in glass bottles...one is a dark, sickly green and the other is a swirly-ish yellow that almost seems to possess several hues.

OOC: Yes, you are still in the tapestry room.  So far, no one has located a third exit to the room.  There is the tunnel you entered from and the heavy wooden door on the other side of the room.

Smiling a little, Boris shook his head. "I guess I'm fine. As well, unless the Saracen were bribing the creature with those pennies, I don't think they came this way. Else they would have fought it before, yes? So let's try the other route for now."

He started to gather the sling bullets he used in the attack. Boris staggered a little but seemed to be getting his strength back.

Larz smiled at his friend and took the wine skin from him taking a drink then handing it back to Stoney. "You're right lad, a drink always makes me feel better." He replied chuckling to himself.

"I don't feel like carrying around all this copper..." the barbarian added. "I say we pick it up on the way out, if we don't find anything better."

"As far as the vials, I say we take them along, Stoney might get thirsty." he said grinning. "As far as where to go, makes no difference to me. But lets make sure we don't leave anything behinds us, Yes?"

Ondrea was somewhat confused as to the route that was being suggested "So we are heading back down the stairwell where Laz nearly lost his foot ?" While she waited for a reply Ondrea will check the wooden door that may be another way further into the maze. She checked the floor to see if it had been opened recently.

Boris shook his head.

"Not that passage that is a way back, through the secret door and the trap-filled tunnel.

"I mean the other door we just passed, sealed by a portcullis."

While everyone is figuring our wish way to to, Stoney drinks his wine.
Deciding to inspect the tapestries a little closer.  Wondering what this room was use for.
scratching his chin.
"Maybe areligious room? No alter, or podium.  No windows.  Hmmmm, maybe hiding a passage to another room?"
With that thought Stoney picks a wall and looks behind the tapestries, for a door or a button or a switch of some sort.

Re: The Forest Primeval

The door seems of solid constructed and in decent condition.  A quick inspection of the hinges revealed they had not been worked in some time.  A liberal amount of corrosion had formed and showed no signs of cracking.  As well the floor lacked any signs of corruption that would have broken free.  The handle itself also possessed a fair amount of dust.

Stoney discovers no buttons, switches or other such devices.  As to the purpose of the room, it was rather anyone's guess.  The only thing you could discern for certain was that the tapestries, what sections of them that remained intact anyway, rather resembled the recently deceased creature.

Boris limped over and examined the door.

"No one's been through that door for a while. Remember, we want to locate the Saracens first, or at least discover whether they are here or not. They aren't behind that door.

"Therefore let's go back to the grate, force it open, and search the other passage.

"Agreed let go back to the other door." She put her hammer over her shoulder and walks back to the portcullis door. She will let someone look it over for anything dangerous while she looks for an obvious switch.

Other then that if all else falls she will give lifting it a try.

Re: The Forest Primeval

Moving with caution and temperance, you make your way back to the fork in the tunnel.  A close examination of the portcullis and surrounding structure reveals no identifiable means by which it is operated.  However, you do discover that the dust around the area has been recently disturbed.  Peering into the darkness, straining to see down the blocked passage, you once again notice that the dust has been moved about and continues onward until you lose sight in the darkness.

"How do we follow...Let me show you."
Possibly too much liquid in his system, or a certain level of crazy.
Stoney goes up to the gate, and tries to bend the bars open.
Hands pressing apart from one another. You hear nothing.  No creaks, no pops of metal welds breaking, nothing except the small halfing grunting.
"Arrrgggghhh!"
Dropping his arms, tired and breathing heavy.
"Those things aren't moving.  We will have to figure out this puzzle another way."

Ondrea also tried to lift the metal bars and also came up short. "Well there must be a way through." she begins again to look for anything that may act as a switch.

"They probably barred it from the other side once they were through."

Re: The Forest Primeval

The gate gave not an inch worth of space.  Whatever the locking mechanism it was buried in the wall above the gate, compounding the weight, and was certainly well built.
