Drinking his wine.
"I thought I was going to be in the back.  Oh well. "
Follows right behind Larz.
As he walks by Boris, slaps him on the shoulder.
"Make sure nothing sneaks up behind on me, please!"

Re: The Forest Primeval

As you slowly descend the staircase, the strong, musty odor of mold crawls up your nostrils.  The carved stone floor is slick, forcing you to move slowly so as not to lose your footing.  The passageway itself is rather small, only a few feet wide and barely tall enough for Larz and Ondrea to pass through and still remain upright; at points both are forced to bend over in order to continue.  Unfortunately, the torchlight is not strong enough for you to see any possible end to the tunnel forcing you onward.

OOC: Larz, Boris, and Ondrea...I need both an INT check and an AGL check from each of you.

Given the twisting nature of the descending passage, Boris soon gave up on any hope of watching the rear door. "Ugh! Smells foul."

The smallness of the staircase didn't bother him but he hoped the big folk were doing ok!

Moving down the stairs Ondrea stops for a second to see if she could discern something of their surroundings. She runs one hand down the wall as she walks keeping an eye on those in front of her should they stumble and need a hand.

Re: The Forest Primeval

As you slowly work your way forward into the darkness, Ondrea suddenly yells, lunging forward and grabbing whatever she can.  She manages to completely grab Boris, pulling him back with her as a sidewall slides open and a large metal grate, complete with rusty spikes, slams across the tiny hallway.  Larz, being in front, was pulled just far enough to spare him a sudden end but his right foot becomes trapped between the grate and the wall.  Ahead of him he can see a large opening has appeared in the floor where he had been walking.

The barbarian stifled a yell of pain, instead uttering a low grumbling string of curses. "Everyone all right?" he asked. " I've got my bloody foot stuck between the wall and this bloody grate."he cursed.

"Here drink a LOT of this."
Hands him his wineskin, but first takes  big drink of it himself.
"Anyone have a big sword, or dagger?"
Removes his belt.
"Let me wrap this around your leg.  Don't worry I have read about this, before.  With one clean swoop of a sword, or many slices from a dagger we will remove the stuck foot."
Looking behind him.
"Who has that sword or dagger?"

"Thanks, Ondrea! Praise the Lord, that was close!"

He panted, pulling at the grating blocking their retreat.

"I have a knife." Boris drew his knife and handed it to Stoney.

Ondrea will look at the mechanism and see if she can retract it to free Laz.

Knife & belt now in hand...waiting for Andrea.

Belt in one hand, knife in the other.  Looking as if he was going to start a feast.  All that is missing is a napkin tucked into his shirt.
" Larz I hope she can open the trap...but I think removing your foot might still be a viable option."

"Sacrificing your foot, wasn't my first intention, I dont think.  Maybe it was.  Anyways if the pain becomes hard to manage & will help with the amputation."

Taking a drink.

Let me see the trap, a little closer.  Can you please bring your torch over here.
Wiggling the knife in between the metal, and trying to free the foot Stoney hears a click.
"Was that the blade slipping, or another trap?"

Re: The Forest Primeval

The spiked grate appears to be operated by a simple spring mechanism.  With enough brute force you can manage to slide it back enough to release Larz' foot.  While still attached and functioning, his ankle was twisted rather severally and a deep gash can be seen oozing quite profusely.

Looking at his foot, by torch light.
"Looks like you might need this slightly more than me right now."
Passed over his wineskin, while grabs bandages from his pack.
"Dang, I dont have any bandages, or cloth on me.  Boris, do you have anything we can wrap this up with?"

I really dont have any bandages on my character sheet.....woops.

The burly warrior grimaced in pain as he tried to set his foot down for the first time. Taking the wine skin from his friend he took a long pull.

"Thank you, I feel better already." he said handing it back."Guess we now know that I have very little skill in searching for or avoiding traps..." he commented.

"Well, do we continue?" he said putting pressure on the foot again to test it. "I should be alright, nothing feels broken. More my pride injured than anything."

Re: The Forest Primeval

In reply to Larzander Gunderzen (msg # 205):

"Good thinking, Ondrea."

Boris shook his head.

"We came up here to track down someone we thought went up some stairs and didn't come down. I suspect the reason whoever it was never returned to the main cave is they are probably in that pit, or another like it. We can explore this deadly passage later, at our leisure. Figure a way past this oubliette.

"For now, let's go back and confirm there is no one behind us in what I suspect is some kind of ancient temple.

"Keep the knife, if you need to, Stoney. Glad your foot is all right!

He leaned over the pit and held his torch up, providing some light to look down.

Re: The Forest Primeval

The hole itself turns out to be a sharply declined ramp.  The trap was obviously setup to drop one or two unsuspecting individuals down the ramp to some unknown, and probably unsavory, locale, then seriously hampering any attempt at rescue.  The ramp itself is carved from the raw stone and seems to be coated in a clear, viscous fluid.  Crossing beyond it should be no problem, provided no more surprises have yet to be sprung.
