Strange Ports

In reply to The Powers That Be (msg # 85):

Larz chuckled a little as he looked towards Stoney briefly then back to the Captain, "Don't mind him Captain, Stoney's a good lad. A man of faith as it were. He just likes his drink."

"Most of these lads I just met yesterday. Though they seem capable enough." he added. "Least wise, when we were attacked by those little demon things, none of them ran from the fight. And they're all still alive to tell the tale."

In reply to Larzander Gunderzen (msg # 86):

Almost like a child in a tantrum, Stoney throws his bag to the ground.
Folds his arms, and looks puzzled.
"DAMN!  I can't find it!"
Head back up to the rest of the group, he is now back in reality.
Grabs his bag, and tosses it on his shoulder, once again.
"Sorry about that, cant find anything in this dang bag.  What were you saying again?"

He raises an eyebrow when Larzander mentions the imps...

"Demon things you say?  Small, devil-looking creatures as black as night?  You say you had a direct encounter with them?!  Where?!", his voice growing excited ever so slightly as his right hand instinctively moves towards the pommel of his sword.

In reply to The Powers That Be (msg # 88):

"We had an encounter with them last night while we were still aboard the ship that brought us here." Larz replied. "They set upon us while we were awaiting our fate." Seeing the look on the Captain's face Larz explained further.

"During the night last night, our entire crew vanished without a trace." he went on. "We had given up hope of ever getting from the fog and bedded down for the night, when these creatures, sounding like the ones you described, attacked us. We managed to kill one, and injure the other before it flew off into the fog."

"Our ship found it's way to the docks on it's own. We stumbled our way to the relative safety of your inn/tavern and awaited daylight." he said looking at the group of "soldiers" that were gathered near by.

"As for myself, it seems I am in need of employment." he said looking back to the Captain. "And it appears you could use a few good men, instead the the boys you seem to be relying on."

In reply to Larzander Gunderzen (msg # 89):

He listens to Larzanders recanting of the voyage that brought them with deep interest.  He seemed rather surprised indeed that you had encountered the imps and lived to tell of it.

"Well now that is most interesting.  We've had a lot of your kind...um, peoples from other lands, that have been arriving by water craft of all manner.  Why we even had a fellow wash up in a canoe.  One or two  have mentioned the imps as well, however, more often than not, we find any remaining crew slain.  Throats slashed ear to ear.  Dreadful scenes to behold indeed."

Looking around at his 'soldiers' he turns back to the group...

"Aye, these people are indeed not what a man of service would desire but I did not retire to this once peaceful town because it held a great army.  We are under attack from both outside and within.  I am near my wits end truly.  If it is work you seek, we have quite a lot of it, my friends.  Please, come join me inside for a drink and we can discuss this matter further."

With that he turns and begins heading back towards the door he emerged from.

Stoney runs up aside the Captain.
"Slit throats, you say?  Ear to ear?  That is not good!
We just might be a use to you, but right, a drink first!"

If there is a door to open for the Captain, Stoney opens it for him.
"After you."

Arryn had stayed in the back allowing the others to talk. He kept fidgeting with his ring as if it might speak at any moment. When the captain beckoned them forward he followed along with the others silently.

Larz nodded, then turned to see if everyone would follow. "May as well make the best of things, and take work where we can get it." He said as he turned to follow the Captain. "Besides, I doubt we're leaving this place any time soon. None of us can sail a ship, we've already established that."

Arryn looked back over his shoulder towards the docks "Is the ship we came in on even here anymore? Or did it drift away in that cursed fog?" he asked wondering what became of the vessels that docked with all hands already dead.

Larz looked back toward the docks as well. "If she is still there. Unless we find her Captain or crew technically the ship belongs to us I would think."

OOC: From what you can see, three large type ships still sit at the docks.  You're not certain if the ship you sailed in on is still there as it was very difficult to make out any details that you would remember.

Reghar watch closely how his companion reacts and follow inside Captain Rasmir. Obviously bashing the skulls of faithless cowards like goblins while getting paid sounds interesting.

"So, Captain Rasmir, what's your story?  Seems you've seen quite a bit of action and I suspect I'm not the only one who wonders how you came to find yourself here since we are the outsiders after all."  Onyx let his question hang a moment without a tone harsh enough to seem forceful yet dry enough to deserve another round of drinks.  Perhaps he wondered if there was more to this Captain than he appeared to be at first blush.

"Aye, I have seen much in my time.  My youth, nay, the majority of my life, I spent in the service.  I once lived on the mainland...when there was still a mainland...and served faithfully for many years.  I retired several years ago to this town, away from the wars and the blood and the horror.  Somehow, it still found me."

Puts his arm on Larzander's shoulder.
"...we will rid the lands of the horrors!"
Drinks a big gulp.
"Or at least some of the horrors."
Obviously he is feeling a little more friendly than normal.  Must be the drinks!

"The situation here in town is indeed a grim one.  We have had multiple unsolved murders as well as disappearances.  Then, of course, we have the goblin situation...a normal part of life here which has suddenly become a rather extreme case as they have been pouring at us from the woods in record numbers.  Really must say that has me rather concerned as I've never seen such numbers and the bloodlust...it is beyond normal for their kind.  Let's see...our land based trade route is now used only by the most battle hardened or foolish; it has become a veritable death trap.  Thankfully we are rather self sufficient here so the sporadic arrival of traders is not the death bell it is in most isolated towns.  Oh, and how could I forget...I'd avoid any sailing ventures if I were you.  No one has come back from those fogs."

He pauses to scratch his beard and enjoy a long pull of wine.

"That's our situation gentlemen."

Arryn didn't wait for a response to Larzander's question "At this point are the goblins a more pressing concern than the murders? We'll need a priority and I'd hate to have any investigations interrupted by goblin attacks."

"I suppose that depends on how you view priorities.  The goblins certainly cause more death and destruction but they are infrequent at best...and we usually have some type of warning.  The murders...disappearences...they happen at random with no warning and virtually no clues; although the body count is currently much lower."  He speaks with a dire, almost sarcastic expression.  He seems a rather taxed man who may be coming to the end of his limits.

"As far as pay, we still have town coffers my friend, if that's your interest.  We can also supply you with room, board, and whatever equipment you might need...provided you work out or survive.  Others have come before you...none can be counted in this room."

Listening intently, Reghar already made up his mind.

"I am ready to help this town, I can't sit idle and let this evil commit murders and destruction.  Goblin, disappearance, evil force, name it I will fight it with all my faith. I will follow whatever the majority decide, I myself think we should start with the city disappearance this way we may explore and discover the town and its people at the same time"

Feeling proud about his comments, Regar watch his teamate to see if any of them look afraid or unsure, he certainly do not want to put his life on an unreliable companion.
