Please review my stats and see if I made any major blunders. My real question is the 16 in luck. I would have liked something better for my appearance, but I just didn't have a decent number for  a stat whose purpose is a bit unclear to me. Can I use disguise to increase it? Could it be so low because I am a half-elf, and I have an apparently different number if people think I am human?

Thinking I would like to add an elf identity later, if I get to it.

Stats look good to me. Your Appearance at 11 would be at about average, that would actually work to your advantage. That would just mean that you have an ordinary looking face, easy to change with disguise checks. 18 Charisma is where you make up for it. It will also work to your advantage and help to trick people into thinking you are who you want them to think you are.

Yes You can raise your APP (temporarily) with disguise checks, or lower it. This requires makeup and different clothes though. In a pinch you can use off the cuff stuff, but a makeup kit would probably do you good.

You will most decidedly need to invent some ways in which you hide the ears, they are a dead give-away to you. You will also need some kind of fake ones eventually, if you are going to post as an elf.

Try to get your gear list finished soon.

The town is to small (and not big on exports) so no warehouse is big enough in town for that. The job ideas you have picked will probably work well. Just be careful where you do your shows, you might get recognized.

Piano is fine, no accordionists in town though. They do exist, but your in the wrong culture (mostly a dwarven instrument), and you are in a small city, so not a great deal of variety.

You can have 2 instruments starting out that you know how to play. I suggest the one you're good at be portable however. Not everyone would have an in-house piano for you, they are rather exclusive.

Okay, want to make sure I have a few things stright before I keep going.

1. Are you going with Vigilante or Bard to start?

2. What job(s) are you going with?

3. What (if any) God are you going with?

4. What do you think of your prestige class? Do you want to commit to Noble Scion now or leave it loose for the time being?

5. What do you want to go with for your name?

Does guitar exist? Probably that, violin or banjo.

Okay so your options are:

Piano, Guitar, Mandolin, Violin, Flute, Vertical Flute, Clarinet, Drum, Pan Pipes, or a lyre.

Keep in mind if you want to put more skill points into perform your welcome to, you can take Dancing, Story telling, Singing or anything else you can think of.

Stick with 2 instruments though, I really don't think you would have had time for more than that...

(1) Vigilante to start, probably two levels before I consider adding a level of bard.

(2) You said there was a place I could work making instruments, I would like to work there as a day job. Note that I have a vigilante skill that lets me put in eight hours work in six hours.
I also like the idea of a piano player in a whore house three to four nights a week, and part of a local band when there is a gig.
If that is too much, let me know.

(3) Not thrilled with any god yet, thinking the dead goddess of joy, just because I feel the need to be of a chaotic alignment.

(4) Full name is William MotherFucker Decker, more commonly known as Bill.
In human guise I would be Garvin Arbuckle Smyth

RE: Instruments: Drat, no banjo. Okay, guitar as my primary, and piano as my secondary,w ith a focus on a honkeytonk style for now.

Re: character creation
Okay! Awesome

The first job is 4 days a week, 8 hours a day, the side job at the brothel is fine. It's Friday and Saturday nights in the piano, they only go full band on the busy nights, and 1 or 2 nights a week solo if you like, but that's for tips only.

The calendar here is actually 6 day weeks. I'll post itn another thread right as soon as I'm done with this one.

Lol I read that sentence as "I feel the need to be part of a Catholic alignment..."

The name is fine, not sure your mother would have given you that middle though.

Honky-tonk! Awesome

There are banjos in town, just no one willing or able to teach you about them. It's not the same thing as a guitar =P

Okay that all looks good then

One question, working at the brothel, had your character ever made a purchase?

No, never, in fact, still a virgin. The girls love him, but the madame warned him off, in an angry tone, but actually because she thinks he's a sweet kid, despite his raunchy-songs persona.

The middle name can be one William gave himself, for the same reason, he wanted a middle name that reflected his father, and the only thing he knows about him is that he fucked his mother.

Re-reading the prestige classes, really leaning towards sleepless detective. Bill doesn't know it yet, but I'm really aiming to get him a detective office in a large town someday.

That's what I figured you were aiming for. Just remember it's going to take me a bit to get there not just in financial means but in emotional ways.

Do you want to be as emotionally scarred and fucked up like Kevin's character was? Do you really want to ask me to put you through that kind of shit?

Re: character creation
okay so I cant find the pdf of my calendar, so for now just know its 6 day weeks, lets just cut out Mondays, because who the hell likes Mondays. Most people only have 1 day off a week.

Its a 10 month calendar, with 6 weeks in each month. The final 5 days of each year is a kind of equinox, known as 'the void'. You should pick a birthday, just so I know when it hits. People born in 'the void' are actually looked upon as very lucky, or very unlucky, for superstitious people.

Re: character creation
Can I have a thread to store and sort the Vigilante stuff please?

You might notice in looking at my sheet that I am working to make Gavin's core talent the making of instruments. While he likes to play music, he feels there is a better future in making instruments, a craft he has found a natural talent in.

It seems likely that if he moves to a big city and is skilled enough, he might border on being minor nobility, invitations to events where his instruments are being used, etc.

If I wished to teach the playing of an instrument, with that be a profession down the road?

Also, Kevin was a bit surprised, but I would like fast track if that's an option. I would like to see this character get some levels under his belt before the game ends...

Re: character creation
Teaching music would be profession because it's not really about how good your are at playing, it's about how well you can show someone else how to do it.

Fast track won't bother me. Right now I feel like we are still in the day-to-day, but if you feel confident enough I can kick it up now.

Starting gear= one dagger (no other weapons or armor) + write up whatever you think you should have. I'll edit it. You are going to start slightly poor. The custom wig with ears and other items would have been expensive for you to purchase (even the components would have been tricky if your planing on taking craft- prosthetic&makeup), so you don't have much in the way of savings.

Re: character creation
I will take that profession down the road I think.

What exactly does fast-track mean, anyway? I just though it meant you leveled faster.

I asked you a question on your phone, but it was too big a text to be followable I think, but I was wondering if I would need the skill forgery at first level to generate papers for my second identity, or if this culture didn't require such things.

Curious about the synergy line on the skills, where do I look to understand that?

I think I will be taking that craft prosthetic&makeup, multiple costumes will be useful I think. I'm hoping to be sort of a con-man/TV version of Mission Impossible guy.

Are we expecting real people to join the game? I noticed the roster thread.

Re: character creation
Fast Track means more XP for the things you do, thus faster leveling.

No, no other players, wanted to put NPC identities there for quick ref.

This country won't be necessary to generate those papers, not necessarily other cultures however. When you plan on traveling it might be a good idea to have no identification, and yes forgery would be good. Some organizations have things that aren't just papers too. Signet Rings, Identification coins, etc... Those will be harder to forge

As my character changes, he will learn. For now he just wants to be a man who can work for a living, a need for those skills will come with time and experience.

Trying to find a good light marital weapon for my finesse weapon. Would a gladius be something in this society and that I could own? Rapier is sadly a melee weapon, I don't get those...

Re: character creation
Most weapons are going to be somewhat out of your reach at the moment as they are quite expensive. Starting out you'll probably only have ownership of a dagger, though that will change pretty rapidly...

When it comes down to it you'll either find something (I will be nice and give you a few options as to what you will find, perhaps)or let you know in advance with a list of what is available for you to purchase once you have a small store of coin.
