Ygraine has Title 3 and Remembrance 2, giving her strong ties to the Dreaming and the Court. So Adrian working his way up the food chain, with her support, could be a fun thing to play out. So don't buy Knight unless you want to.  I agree, a bit of a shared history could be lots of fun. Honestly, I didn't focus on her earliest years, so can write anything up we want. Here's what I wrote up for the High King:

History
Ygraine was born Elaine Jones into privilege but didn't put much stock in it. Oh, she enjoyed being one of the IT crowd, but the popularity of a school's queen bee was somehow hollow to her. She wouldn't trade it for being at the bottom of the social ladder, but at the same time there was nothing she was doing that mattered. This ennui held her in its grip until the grief she experienced at her father's death sent her into a dark but thrilling Chrysalis. The emptiness in her heart left by his passing demanded she find that thing that made life worth living. Her Sidhe soul offered her an answer, a quest of epic proportions.  Yes, the world was Banal and without any real color, but only if she chose to accept its limitations and feeble joys. If she devoted herself to changing it, fundimentally, lived to upturn the givens and create something wild, wonderful and cleave only to her passions; well THAT would be a life worth living.

Ygraine took up that challenge and felt something old and true come over her. This fight she'd sworn to win in somewhere more real then the place lives happen in. She found herself a figure of grace, power and beauty bedecked in finery beyond her old imaginings. She felt a new, yet ancient, kind of energy flow through her as shades of the past taught her things she'd always known. Thus began her life anew amongst the Kithain.

Ygraine made a progress through the courts, looking for kindred spirits but more often finding herself in the company of small minded "Nobles" who mistook cruelty for power and petty diversions as joy. She took great pleasure in tossing stones in their glass houses and taking from them the things they mattered most. Thus she earned a few enemies, most notably Lord Edward of House Gwydion, now a Count. Were it not for her habit of throwing herself at the true dangers that threatened Kith and Kin she would not have been tolerated, instead her heroism earned her titles and the respect of those who valued deeds over posturing. She's built a small network of friends by proving herself thusly and has earned the respect of those who know her name 'despite' her House.

So Aidan probably knew her as one of the popular girls in school who disapeared for a year after her father's death to return and climb almost effortlessly to the top of the social ladder. She had a bit of a reputation for throwing EPIC parties, getting into wild adventures and in her senior year especially, challenging the powers that be and the schools traditions openly. Since he went through his Chrystalis after school, perhaps he never quite knew she was Sidhe, but definitely remembers her...

Yes, I love that Aidan is vital to the whole foster home venture as it helps establish the essential parts of his character and gives him a spotlight to step into.

Well, Elizabeth 'Bathsheba' Brown is an untitled Scathach. She's a wanderer looking to get away from a bad rep. Her mentor was a monster who, rumour has it, later defected to the Shadow Court. Rather than undo the damage, she just moved on and hoped to start again. Instead, she's ended up surviving as a roving soothsayer. She's tough but only dangerous when cornered. She's mostly interested in eldritch secrets and understanding the Dan, but in recent years she's begun to realise that, with her increasing age, she needs to surround herself with Glamour (and the Glamorous) to survive. In her mid-forties, she's already quite old for a grump, but has managed to stay looking youthful through her various travails

Perhaps she has been placed with Adrian to prove herself? This way, she can earn a place and settle down at long last. She'd like this idea, as her most recent scrying attempt revealed glory and wonder in this town.

So do you ladies have any further input on the idea of my two retinue?  Im a noble Sidhe after all! i think it would be smart to have them connected in some way

Retinue would be enchanted humans that help you day to day, no? Suddenly I'm seeing a Transporter like Driver/Bodyguard and a Nerdy girl ex hacker who can dig up dirt for Adrian so he knows things he 'shouldn't' be able to. How you ensure their loyalty is up to you.

I'm thinking you might want the Kinain to be your 'personal assistant' type of person as they'd have a little standing in Kithain society and could help you immensely with things without having to min max their abilities and their loyalty. Of course, that could end up being Martha...

i was thinking more of how they might have some sort of a connection to Ygraine and Elizabeth specifically.  I imagine their roles, (2 helpers and a more personal assistant) to be very much inline with your ideas.  The first member of my retinue I imagine being the workhorse, he does all the drudgery that needs doing, like sorting through court records, reading all the hundreds of pages of contracts, summarizing it for me with highlights of any important paragraphs etc.  He would be well educated in law and the workings of bureaucracy, be very detail oriented and have a high threshold for tedious and mundane tasks.  My second helper will be affectionately referred to as "the mole".  She will ferret out all the important bits of information and secrets that i can use to my advantage.  She would be very skilled with computers and perhaps also with using her looks to help sway any hesitant or resistant men.  She would also take the lead on any minor negotiations or minor personal meetings on my behalf.  My personal assistant would see to the daily running of the two mortals as well as assist me with any personal matters whether banal or fae related as i see fit.

Now, how can we connect them to your gal's characters?!

The mole sounds like perfect Ailil bait to me... perhaps she's Ygraine's 2nd cousin or something. Someone Ygraine might have summered with, so they had a few adventures, but not so close that the mole's loyalty is divided. Ygraine might get her into exclusive parties and done a favor or two her when there was someone the mole couldn't get close to, basically her 'Ace in the hole'. Likewise, Ygraine might have called on her once or twice to smooth over some legal rough patch she was in or to make her a full fake identity or two when needed. So she's less then a contact, but not a stranger.

ooh thats perfect.  Maybe she was quite a bit younger than us at school.  You could be a few years older than Adrian, and Adrian could be a few years older than "her" that way you guys are connected marginally, and she might have developed her relationship with Adrian when they were still in school.  I like it.

Now we just need to connect Elizabeth somehow.. or do we? Maybe she did a reading for my Kinain? hmm...

How old is Aidan... I have Ygraine as 22 'old' for a wilder but not grump yet. I could make her older or just say she spent time in the dreaming so is 'older' but not physically so.

Stray thought... what if post her Chrystalis but before his, Ygraine was Aidan's 'first kiss'. In some way I envisioned a scene where they struck a bargain and an Oath was taken... her favor to catapult him to the top of the school's social ladder in exchange for his support for her efforts in the future... putting a bit of a twist of fate in this second meeting of theirs.

i had him as ~25 old enough to have started been building his fortunes, but still pretty young. She changed before he did though, so she easily could have spent more time in the dreaming than him, or i can just nock him down a few years, maybe ill make him 22, and you can be 23, say a year older than him at school.

i think how we have connected them so far is really good, anything else or any further oaths i think would be better roleplayed as we become partners in the School project.

It could be interesting if he was older then her 'now' ... and actually, there's another reason behind that mystery, now that I think of it. So, if it's fine with you, Aidan can be twenty five while Ygraine is twenty two.

Btw, I hope you don't mind Ygraine's habit of team building. She sees the value in sharing a campaign to take strangers and turn them into comrades in arms. Plus, the idea of having the Lost Boys help with getting the bad momma to straighten up her act was too deliciously Grimms Fairy Tales to resist as an impulse.

Here's where I'm at with RL:

The novel was interrupted for three weeks as I had to put together an entire magazine for the charity I volunteer for. Basically, I had to chase a bunch of people, rewrite everything (people were submitting 2000-word articles for 600-word slots), find images of lots of dead people (often photographed by other dead people) and juggle lots of 'expectations'.

I'm currently on the second editing pass of the novel. Need to smooth out a couple of things, write a couple of scenes to clarify and bridge specific sections, and then give it another editing pass before sending it to beta readers.

However, I should now have more time for play.
