Hihi,

I've Chimerical Items 5 and am looking for ways to use it. I asked High King if I could have a Harley that's got the Chimerical aspect of a clockwork horse? As the Chimerical Equiptment list shows that high dot chimerical items could have magical powers, so I was also wondering if maybe it could fly via windrunner.

I'm opening this up to everyone. Does this sound ok?
1st - the harley/chimeral clockwork hore
2nd - that it can fly as a 5 point chimerical item

Thanks for reading this :)

The rules were always conflicting when it comes to Chimera and Treasures. At times, a Treasure was anything with an equivalent Arts rating. At other times, it was an item with a chimerical and physical presence. Chimera meanwhile seems to relate, when speaking of chimerical items, to equipment that's chimerical only and probably doesn't have any special powers. However, sometimes the rules flat out ignored this and confused it with Treasure, except for the fact Chimera have no physical presence (although, again, this was sometimes contradicted too).

Here's how I've always ruled it:

Chimera/Chimerical Item:
As per the corebook, this denotes the highest level of chimerical equipment you have. So if you have Chimera 2, you can take a number of chimerical items, so long as none of them exceeds the two dot rating. As a guide, I've always ruled that chimerical weapons, for instance, do Strength + Chimera rating in damage. For firearms, I've had BB guns for the first level (causing bashing only), and then gone up the scale.

If you need a limit to stop people claiming 100 items all at level two, you could limit the total number of points for such items to the equivalent number of 'Chimera Creation Points' for making a chimerical companion or the level of Chimera squared if that's too high

Treasure:
This is the easiest. The Treasure rating is equivalent to the Art rating it mimics. Treasures are supposed to be infused with one or more applications of an Art, although the books gave them all kinds of effects that had no analogue in the Arts.

Your Harley/Pegasus sounds more like a level five Treasure. I'd write Treasure: Harley Pegasus (Wayfare 5/Wind Runner). That means any chimerical weapons or armour would need to be covered separately by the Chimera Background at the equivalent level (Chimera 2 should cover a sword, +2 armour dice and a shield).

Hope that helps!

I'll reply now. I'm on UK time, so it's night for you when it's morning for me

And I'm so sorry for what's happening over there right now. I feel your pain. We had Brexit, after all...

hello. so my working concept is a sidhe of house Gwydion, but the GM is concerned about the possibility of character conflicts, i could just as easily by from house Ailil.  Any thoughts Ygraine?

In reply to Adrian Dupont (msg # 90):

First off, welcome to the game, Adrian, and thanks for being willing to hash out things before bringing in your character.

That being said, honestly, I'm super cool with there being a player character Gwydion. I'm all for some inter character tension and conflict, it can add to the Drama of the game. I'd just ask that you not bring in a Gwydion whose out to mount every Ailil head on a pike because they piddled in his dojo after killing his master kind of hater. You've probably seen how I play Ygraine and she's an oddly honorable sort of Ailil who can get along with just about anyone.

If you're up for it, perhaps we can talk about something of a past between my character and yours. She has a powerful Gwydion enemy which could open some door for us. Perhaps it could be a 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend...' kind of thing. If, say, the Gwydion she wronged wronged your character somehow... I've oodles of ideas... one of our characters could have saved the other's life so a debt exists between them... they could be rivals on the tourney circuit determined no one would best the other but them... the possibilities are endless, really.

Tell me what you think, Adrian :) I look forward to seeing you in game.

This is my working concept,  Im very unfamiliar with 2e changeling, and have started re-reading the books (although i am familiar with whitewolf in general, especially vampire) so any cool soap opera style interactions can be alot of fun.  This should help with some good shared acquaintances and back story.

An up and coming Venture Capitalist, Mover and Shaker, Fixer.

Adrian Dupont should have had everything.  His family name was well known, respected and fabulously wealthy.  The truth was much different.  He was the unwanted son of a prom night tryst fueled with drunken lies of love forever.  When his mother found out she was pregnant, his father wanted nothing to do with her.  His fathers family, the Dupont's had enough money to buy his mothers silence and necessary signatures signing over her rights to the child.  Adrian was cared for by a nanny until he was shipped across the country to a boarding school, where he has some of his first memories.

Despite being shipped off and alone, he was quite popular and handsome.  His social skills flourished and he did remarkably well in school quickly rising to be a mover and a shaker among his fellow students.  He was the guy you came to when you had a problem that needed fixing.  Adrian was always willing to help, for a small consideration in return.  His school life was punctuated by occasional cards or gifts from his family during the major holidays, with only the most formal and unemotional platitudes scribbled on them.

After his graduation, Adrian emerged from his chrysalis, was able to claim the modest wealth that had been placed in a trust for him by his mortal family and also the gifts granted to him by virtue of being fae.  It was made clear that this middling amount of money was to see him through a college education after which he was to make his own way in the world, and best wishes.  With new worlds of possibility before him, Adrian, a Sidhe of House Gwydion struck out to make his mark.

Having always been around the wealthy and elite during his time at school, Adrian had a hunger to climb the social ladder and rub elbows with the elite.  This applied equally well to his courtly ambitions.  Using his contacts and newfound gifts he was able to extricate one of his classmates from a rather sticky and embarrassing situation and in return Adrian asked only that he be allowed to invest in a lucrative real estate venture his friends family was working on.  By the age of 25 Adrian has accumulated a number of favors and contacts in the business dealings of his city.  He is well on his way to earning his fortunes and taking his place among the cities elite.  He has designs on earning the title of Knight among his new freehold as a short term goal, climbing the social ladder to power.  And nothing less than conquering the world for his long term ambitions.

Ooo, I love him, and have a thought. What if the Duke saddles the Ailil Baroness (whose broke as s-it) with a knight who can:
1. Has the contacts and funds to make the foster home venture a go
2. Can help her acclimated to the area/serve as her host here
3. Give him eyes and ears in Ygraine's camp

So serving as her knight is lucrative to Aidan, perhaps the Duke lays a geas on him so he can trust the Gwydion won't be 'corrupted' by the Ailil even after the Oath of Fealty and Escheat are made.

What do you think?

Wow, #4 is super banal... "correct" and "true" are absolute dream killing words, G-man *giggles*

Oh, I'd another thought, perhaps they went to the same boarding school back in the day.  They could have traveled in different circles, but maybe they knew each other pre-Chrystalis? It could serve as an interesting complication to their relationship now that they're each in opposing houses...

Attending the same boarding school could be an easy way to help smooth over any potential differences, ive read the info about Ygraine, do you have any more backstory i could see to help find points of connection?  I dont know how old your character is, but we would want to make sure they are close enough in age that it would be reasonable that they knew each other during school.  also, i dont know about your character if she changed much after school, but Adrian would be very similar to how Ygraine knew him in school.

Does Yrgraine have dots in title already? my original thought was to not give Adrian any and let him earn his titles during play, but i can give him enough to get to Knight if we think that would be more appropriate.

I really like Adrian having the contacts and funds to help invest in the foster home venture, he is all about helping people make their dreams come true... for some small consideration, hardly worth mentioning really.  That would also give them a shared goal to unite behind when/if they have differences of opinion.

Also, not to be left out, Elizabeth do you have any ideas of how we could connect our characters together?  Any contacts or people important to you that might also interact with Adrian?  I was thinking of giving Adrian a business team (small retinue)that helps take care of much of the drudgery and banal activities associated with business ventures (not to mention anything else that needs doing) headed by a Kinain (more useful and in the know should special actions be needed), leaving Adrian to attend to the more important and glamorous tasks.  As is only befitting one of his station and heritage.

**RE EDIT**
If either of you have any input on helping me shape the backstory and personalities of either of my 2 retinue or 1 Kinian that could be both a point of commonality between our characters and helpful making them unique and interesting.
