On Stranger Tides

The captain can tolerate some delay when the ship sails, as the tide takes awhile to go out completely. Fortunately, everyone seemed to be on board, so the anchors were hoisted and the ropes cast off.

The tide begins to pull the ship away from the wharf. It isn't until the ship is pointed out to sea and about 100 yards offshore that the sails are hoisted.

It takes about a half hour to clear the tide, and full sail is deployed.

It's then that the captain requests the Seeker's presence in his cabin.

On Stranger Tides

The tall blonde stands on the deck, feeling the wind as it catches on the sails.  A strong confidence reveals itself as he chants in a deep melodious voice,

"May you see the way
wherever the journey takes you,
sailing safely over rough water and weathering the waves’ dips and crests

May you find treasure in Earth’s infinite variety, beauty and surprise
May you hear the ocean’s music in every shell you hold to your ear

May your boat fill with insight, laughter, generosity and love
as you discover new landscapes and explore the wide expanse of memory.”

His voice fades, but not before ending with a quieter, "And thus the song begins."

Gabriela heard the singing while on her way to the captain's cabin, and came over.

"That was very nice. An old Vesten song?"

He shakes his head slightly.  "I heard that blessing once from an Avalonian cook.  He loved his stout.  Told me that he heard it was an ancient blessing from way back during the time of Numa itself.  Don't know if he was telling the truth himself, but it sounded a good tale."

He glances and grins slightly.  "Most old Vestenmennavenjar songs are made to be remembered while drunk, or while going to battle.  But we do have our share of great sagas and blessings."

On Stranger Tides

Alain below deck insures that his gear is properly stored. He changes his clothes to something more appropriate for sailing. When he emerges back on the deck; he is dressed in dark pantaloons with a white laced shirt with a cravat held in place by a blue sapphire pin. Around his wait a blue sash that matches the pin. He wears a simply, but functional pair of black cotton gloves.

As he passes, "Lovely music." With that said he makes his way to the chart room to meet with the captain.

Gabriela smiled.

"All the best songs are. Though in Castille we usually combine music with dance."

She part turned as the Vicomte of Gaspard passed.

"I regret, I must be going. The Captain has arranged a meeting."

Jarrun nods.  "Yes, he has. I am glad I had a chance to greet the sea with a song before our meeting begins."

He will once again look out beyond the bow.  "I look forward to the new adventure."

On Stranger Tides

Marcelo had set the meeting for a time when the ship was expected to clear the tidewaters... that nebulous zone where the tide going in and out didn't affect the ship as much as the wind and the wave and the ocean's currents. It was always a guess because there were so many factors, but an experience sailor usually got a feel for it.

He left his door open so that the Seekers... it was as good a title as any for those who were seeking the Black Pearl under the aegis of the Explorer's Society... would know to come right in.

There were only seven of them, so that was a good thing or else there wouldn't have been room for them in his cabin.

He was expecting his XO to be the last to arrive as he'd be busy with the ship.

"Thank you for coming to this meeting," he began when they were all present, seated or standing as preferred.

"My instructions were to take you first to Wandesborrow in Avalon, as that was where the report of the Black Pearl seems to have started."

"If any of you have a different destination in mind, now is the time to tell me."

On Stranger Tides

Jarrun will stand against a wall, letting others take chairs as they felt the desire.  As the captain begins to lay out the general plan, Jarrun will take a quick look at the map.

The big man speaks up.  "Captain Marcello.  On behalf of all the Seekers present, I would like to thank you, your crew, and your ship for agreeing to assist us on this great quest.  If we are successful, every person on this vessel will become part of an incredible tale that will spread to all the corners of this world."

He looks around at everyone present.  "There are faces here whom I recognize, but not everyone.  As such, I am Jarrun, a Warrior Skaald of the Vestenmennavenjar.  It is my hope to record our journeys and craft a tale worthy of our deeds."

He once again faces the captain.  "Before we consider our destination, should we each compare our knowledge of the Black Pearl so that we begin on the same page?"
