Post coming tomorrow. Hope y'all had a nice weekend. I gamed w/ my table top group. Also ordered 5th edition from Amazon...looking forward to digging in.

Ah, much better now.

I've toyed with the idea of getting 5th edition but have never been able to follow through for some reason.

Let us know if you like.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

I love 5th edition. There's something I like from a 2nd, Pathfinder, and 5th, the three editions I've played, but 5th is so easy. I'm bad with remembering rules, and there's fewer to remember with 5th.

I'm a different Player 8 than the one above, I think, but I'll be joining soon, as an elf ranger.

Howdy, and sorry for the confusion. I'll correct that in a moment.

Please welcome the real player 8 to the game - he's getting up to speed, and will be joining you shortly...if he can just get away from the shadowy things that seem to be following him...

Welcome to Gildan Stalker...either you'll be the next hero who conquers Quesqueton, or you'll be just another piece of gristle for ghouls and other uglies to snack on.

Welcome indeed!

Post tomorrow. I'm going to try to maintain twice a week, with one of those days during the weekend moving forward. We'll see how that works.

Couple things: Bruno, wasn't fussing at you. I welcome all questions, so don't be shy. That's said, something like that can go into OOC or PM.

Gildan: dice roller finally woke up. Fortunately there are two clerics in the group. I have to admit, that natty 20 fired me up, though. DM has to have a little fun now and again! And, for the record, your bow work was exactly what was needed at the time you showed up. Melee's not over, but I think you may have saved a character or two with your arrival.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

Gang - anyone here playing 5th edition on Rpol?

I'd like to learn how to play, just bought the three core rulebooks. Combing through them, I see a lot that's familiar (some that's really good: ability rolls make me happy!), some that's kind of hokie: character's backstory is important for about minute to most players, so writing a novel seems extra work).

Let me know - thx!

In reply to The Seer (msg # 711):

Actually playing 5E around the table > rolling real dice!
Running a group of new players and having a blast! We play once a month.
It's a pretty cool system. I ran a 5e game on Unseen Servant for awhile using the new boxed set with adventure Lost Mines of Phandelver. Only finished three chapters of it but it was fun.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

In reply to Kullonar (msg # 712):

I've read through the PHB and skimmed the monster manual - they went old school with the MM - most of the monsters started in First edition. I like that they pay homage to the history of the game. In the PHB, I like ability checks instead of so many skills. From what I can tell, there's quite a lot to like.

There are also some things that I'm scratching my head about, especially when it comes to character creation. And definitely not a big fan of being pigeon holed in one direction or another, seems too limiting to me.

All that to say: I need to play to learn, then once I have my arms wrapped around the new rules, I'll probably enjoy it more.

I don't suppose anyone would want to volunteer being a DM for 5e? LOL.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

I've been in a couple table top campaigns so far, but haven't gotten a character higher than 9th or 10th level.

I have my problems with the system (to begin with it's D&D and crap like Alignments still exist, etc.), but I've found it quite flexible. It's easy to take a few levels of one thing and a few more of that, etc. To some degree that they have done the thing that too many rpgs are doing right now and attempting to model play on computer games (you play a Blaster or Tank or Controller whatever your class is, etc.), but I like it ok. The two GMs running our games seem to like that they've brought back lots of classic modules and are bringing back many more.

Bruno, if it seems I'm picking on you, I'm really not! LOL. Totally missed that post. Now you see why I have to have a screen, though I'm not liking this one very much, to be honest. May just go back to paper and pencil.

I play a couple of games using 5th. I'm full up on games at the moment, but if an opening comes around, I'll try and remember to let you know.

Much obliged. I've asked two DM's playing 5E and both said they didn't need more players.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

LOL, Zan...

This game's staying first edition all the way through. I just want to learn 5e because my tabletop group have all bought the 5e books and are starting to figure them out. I am guessing we'll be switching to 5e sometime in the next year or so, once we finish the current chapter. Since we play about once a month, I'd say a year is about how long it takes.

FYI.

Re: OOC: The First Chapter - August 2016

I'm going to have to go back and figure out what time it is - use this time to roleplay how you're handling the wounded and other sundries.

Again, good fight. Turned on a dime with Gildan's appearance. You might want to heal him up for the effort - or not. If not, don't be surprised to see Gildan return as a PC ghast. LOL!
