Act 2: In Search of the Unknown Part I

Uthecar stops and considers Weasels words.  "Best you check the back of the door before you go closing it son, but it seems wise.  Make sure you can manipulated and opened the lock from behind."  As he waits he places himself in a little space and warms his ax arm up with some broad swinging strokes.

Myrrick pauses, waiting for Weasel to check the door and close it. His sword is ready, his eyes and ears trained for any sound or movement not from his group.

Zan will go help Weasel close the door.  He handed Weasel a key, "Give this a try I think it might work.  Ginger found it laying about"

Act 2: In Search of the Unknown Part I

Weasel nods his thanks to Zan, whispering, "Bein' easier t' pick a lock when you have t' key, eh wot?"

Weasel checks the door, the floor in front of the door, and the lock.

1. if he finds nothing, he'll gently put the key into the lock, trying not to make noise.  If it fits, he'll turn it.... once again, trying not to make any noise.  If he thinks it will help, he'll drip a little oil on the key and into the lock.

2.  if the key doesn't fit, out come the lock picks.

Act 2: In Search of the Unknown Part I

Weasel and Zan retreat to the entrance.  After a careful look-see, they close the door and secure it, with Zan retrieving the key and stowing it away on his person.

As one, the party moves forward now in earnest.  Myrrick leads, with Uthecar looking closely over his shoulder - almost uncomfortably close, so eager is the dwarven rager to meet the foe.  At last, they come within sight of the door, the golden glow of the lantern bathing it's face, a stylish 'Q' engraved thereon at eye level to greet you with silent query.

Act 2: In Search of the Unknown Part I

Uthecar steps to one side so others can pass.  He scrutinized the ceiling and surrounding walls as he does so, looking for any tell tail signs that they might be more than they initially appear from a casual glance.  He had no beef with the door, that would be someone else's job, unless of course it needed to be busted.

Act 2: In Search of the Unknown Part I

Myrrick studies the door closely, notes that is of a more common construction - and seemingly significantly older.  It seems well preserved, however, sealed as it is within the fortress.  To the best of his knowledge, it is a simple lever that opens inward into the fortress.  Uthecar, nearby, notes the same.

Act 2: In Search of the Unknown Part I

"A door that opens into a fortress," Uthecar muses, "It stinks as bad as goblin scum.  If it was built proper, it should be opening out.  The engineer was either an idiot or it's a trap." He looks to the walls surrounding the door a little more closely.  "Could be the real door is concealed," he says running his free hand over the stone, "or the engineer was an idiot."

Zan will examine the door as well and listen to find out if there is something on the other side.  "Weasel, your contribution would be most welcomed"

Additionally, he looked for a keyhole, since the last door had one, it made sense that this one might as well.

Myrrick studied the door for traps, again, just to be sure before attempting to open the door, "Rennar opened the door easily enough, if I recall."

12:08, Today: Myrrick rolled 38 using 1d100.  open locks. (fail)

None of you detect traps, locks, secret doors, shifting walls or any of that sort.  Appears to be a normal door, pushing inward.

Act 2: In Search of the Unknown Part I

"Well if none of you can see anything sinister let's just hope the designer never believed the first door could ever be breached......and he was an idiot." he added after a pause for good measure, as he agreed with his own initial assessment of the obviously non-dwarven engineers' ability.

Uthecar signals for everyone to step back out of possible danger as he steps up to the door.  Though he had a few rough edges, he was wordlessly accepting his companions assessments that he was wrong and there was no trap here, and willing to face what might be coming, though not about to have others placed in danger if they turned out to be incorrect.

08:57, Today: Uthecar Hornskin II rolled 3 using 1d8.  open door.  FWIW - The 3 is also good enough to force open a locked, barred, magically held or wizard locked door, so I guess we are going in, or the trap is sprung and the roof is falling in on Uthecar. :-)

Act 2: In Search of the Unknown Part I

Uthecar opens the door with ease.  A block of stone does NOT fall on his head, a pit does NOT open beneath his feet.  The tunnel, lit by the light of Bruno's lantern, extends straight into the darkness, with twin alcoves, apparently guard stations of a sort, extending in ten foot squares to either side of the passage.

Act 2: In Search of the Unknown Part I

Uthecar looks up and around, with a look of annoyance on his face.  As long as everyone is ready to go, Uthecar moves into the passageway testing the ground ahead with the handle of his axe as he does so.  He is obviously still not sold on it not being a trap, as he still can't get his head around the second door opening inwards.  He mutters quietly under his breath in dwarven as he moves to check each alcove.

Uthecar is moving cautiously, the words of his companions mirroring his own thoughts.  He is tapping the floor ahead of himself as he goes, listening for a hollow sound, at least up until the alcoves.  He keeps to the right of the corridor as he approaches the alcoves, looking as much into the one on the left as possible as he approaches.

What height does the ceiling go to in this corridor.  Is it a flat ceiling or domed towards the middle?

Act 2: In Search of the Unknown Part I

Uthecar searches both the alcoves and begins moving forward up the passage as he searches for any sort of construction anomaly.  Myrrick follows close behind, as do the two priests.  Following to the rear, Zan spends some time looking about for traps or concealed doors as well, though he finds nothing untoward in his search.  Weasel follows Zan nervously, his eyes darting back into the darkness behind, though he holds a blade steadily in his hand.

There is an odd stillness to the place.  Soft murmurs of sound whisper briefly, than are gone.  Sudden stirrings of air caress the back of your necks, though you cannot discern a source.  Hints of floral fragrances touch your nostrils, fading before you can identify their source.  It is an eerie, uncomfortable feeling as you move up the corridor.

For a dwarf spaces such as they are currently in are.... Well, they're like home. Particularly if they are properly carved/built spaces as this one seems to be. The weird sounds and other stuff would make any home uncomfortable, though.

Bruno moves along keeping his eyes and ears open -- this place was created by a wizard, so doubtless what they are hearing is a reflection of his magical protections, but still...
