Re: Combing Quesqueton

Grouping one: Trog 1 (-3), Trog 2 , Trog 3,
Grouping two: Big Trog 1 (-7), Trog 2 (-2hp), Trog 3, trog 4

Initiative as follows:
4 for the Trogs

5 for Bruno
1 for Kullonar
1 for Uthecar (-5 damage)
5 for Myrrick (-1 damage)
2 Weasel
5 Zan (-4 damage)
5 NPC Merc 1
5 NPC Merc 2

Round two RECAP

Bruno and Myrrick lead off: The doughty ranger misses despite his best intent, while Bruno calls forth the blessing of the Soul Forger.

Zan fires twin arrows, one of them flies over Bruno and Uthecar's head to add another scratch to the stone walls of the dungeon, the second strike's a glorious blow for freedom from Troglodyte tyranny (-2 damage to the second trog coming from grouping two).

The two NPC men at arms stand their ground - one launches a shot that fires high and wide and skitters back up the corridor back the way the party came, but the second one is cool under pressure and hits one of the three trogs rushing toward him. As the trogs draw near, both men ditch the crossbows for their swords (-3 to trog 1 of the grouping one).

The trog hit by the man at arms screams in pain and his toss of the javelin is feeble and wide of the mark. The other two trogs, however, both hone in on the poor fellow who shot their friend and toss their javelins with remarkable accuracy (-13 dmg to second NPC) and the man falls before he even has time for a final cry, blood streaming from his body.

The four trogs in grouping two rush out of the lower door of room 19. One has already been hit by Zan. This one launches a javelin in retaliation; a quick twist on the magus part saves him from a chest wound, but suffers an upper arm wound that bleeds freely instead (-4hp damage).

Seeing the big-assed halbard in Myrrick's hand, #3 & #4 both toss their javelins at him, but like the nature zen-meister he is, he merely stutter steps out of harms way.

The two trogs are shocked, and not paying attention as Kullonar, Cuthbert's Priest shuffles forth to do damage. Cuthbert may be absent from this mini-drama, but Moradin certainly is listening (that +1 Blessing came in handy here), because trog #4 falls with a crushed skull in a silent heap...brain mass oozes out of the beastie's ears.

Now, to the last of the individual battles: Trog #1 from grouping one (the feller with the shield) vs. Uthecar: The Big feller lines up a pretty good blow, but it clangs harmlessly off Uthecar's breast plate. Uthecar, on the other hand, hits the big feller a strong blow that sets him back a step (-7 points dmg). The beastie hisses his rage!!!

OOC: A bit uncertain as to the 'layout' of things, so let me know if I need to edit anything I post.

Feeling The Soul Forger's blessing only heightens the rage Bruno feels at the sight of the big Trog with the shield. With a roar he follows Uthecar and thrusts his short sword at the creature attempting to come in under the shield, which by its very nature is being misused in this situation.

Re: Combing Quesqueton

Bruno, Uthecar, Zan and Kullonar are approximately 20' into the left right corridor that runs 50' to the door leading into room 19. These folks are facing 4 trogs, one of which is fallen, two of which are wounded.

Weasel, Myrrick and the two NPC's are at the edge of the same corridor, looking back toward the way the party initially  traveled to get here. These folks are facing three trogs, one of which is injured.

That's how it broke down once the first combat ensued.

Re: Combing Quesqueton

Map for the fight vs. Trogs. Round 3.

It's a bit grainy, so fire any questions my way - definitely not my best effort. I can tell you that 3 Trogs are in the southern left right corridor. Nearby is Uthecar and Bruno, with Kullonar a step behind Bruno. The NPC's (one of which is dead - marked by the strikethrough) are in the lower left corner. Weasel is behind Myrrick, who is using the corner wall as a shield). Zan is behind Bruno. Three more trogs coming down the corridor from 17.

The numbers in the picture are room numbers.

Re: Combing Quesqueton

'Tis a brutal fight in close quarters.

Using the wall to partially shield himself, Myrrick squares up his halbard on one of the trogs coming down the corridor. The beastie has never seen a halbard wielded with such speed and grace. In a flash, the creature is down, it's ichor oozing from many wounds. TROG DEAD.

With righteous rage, Bruno draws close behind Uthecar and uses his reach to, well, reach the big fella his dwarven mate is fighting. (-8 more to the big fellow).

Zan gets off two shots in quick succession, both find a fair mark for the fellow guarding the chieftain's flank. The body guard goes down in a heap (DEAD).

The NPC whose name I've forgotten is so dismayed by his fellow's death that he wields his sword like an axe, felling another of the three coming down the corridor. It is an ugly blow, but puissant. (DEAD)

Sadly the good news ends there, as Uthecar misses, Weasel holds serve and Kullonar almost falls on his ass.

As for the trogs:

In grouping one, only one of the critters remains. Since the only fellow out in the open is the NPC, he races down the corridor in a rage, ready to rend. Two claw attacks are followed by a rending bite and the man goes down beneath the overgrown chameleon's fury.

In Group two, 2 Trogs are left: the leader and his body guard. In spite of the leader's finery, he lacks finesse and Uthecar easily side steps his attack. The other suffers much the same fate, unsure quite how Bruno managed to stick his boss from behind Uthecar! His effort scratches the stone of the wall.

Re: Combing Quesqueton

At the far end of the corridor, Myrrick attacks the lone remaining trog from Group 1. His halbard dances, but the trog dances quicker and evades his thrust. Hoping for a shot at redemption, Weasel rushes toward the wounded trog. His efforts are in vain as well.

Fortunately for Weasel, the Troglodyte turns his wounded fury upon Myrrick. Armored like an M1 Abrams tank, Myrrick is a walking fortress and the troglodyte breaks a nail, and scores no hits.

Zan's two arrows go astray - fortunately he keeps missing high, so the the arrows break against the stone wall (Zan, make sure you're keeping track of your arrow inventory - that's at least six in this battle alone).

Bruno attempts another attack from behind Uthecar, trying desperately not to skewer his dwarven comrade. His effort is dextrous, adroit, but the trog facing both of them is the quicker.

Behind Bruno, Kullonar has just thrown up in his mouth again at the stench. His attack is ineffectual.

And still in his berserk fury, Uthecar's will is strong, but his aim is not.

For his part, the Trog Leader in group two swings poorly. His claw/hand must be dripping with lizard sweat, because his his scimitar flies from his grasp, and crashes on the stone floor of the passageway.

His eyes widen with surprise as he notes the hungry look in Uthecar's eyes.

The second trog slips past his lead for a claw/claw/bite on Bruno. His attacks, unlike his boss, are effective as he hits with one claw and a fierce bite upon Moradin's priest. (-5 total damage).

The Troglodyte moves in and Bruno learns that his claws are sharp as his teeth. Despite the wounds the warrior priest comes to understand the advantage to a short sword as compared to a hammer in this situation as it is not only a short weapon and easier to used in tight quarters, but it is a thrusting weapon. Accordingly, gritting his teeth and he thrusts the blade into his opponent before fishy-smelling fiend can escape.
