Re: Chapter 3: The Valley of Sleeping Jarls
The cleric of Moradin and former soldier of the ArchBaron's Dwarven Heavies is feeling the thrusts and bites he has received from the skeletons and zombies they stumbled upon. He is woozy and realizes that he has never been quite this hurt in all of his years. Still, he hears his his mother, The Sergeant's, voice in his head, If you know you're hurt, you're still alive, so fight until you can either get to a medic or you can't feel the pain any more!
His resolve stiffened, he thrusts his hand back into his satchel to grab another vial over holy water thinking, If we can get rid of these cursed things before us we can finally get to Zan, withdraw from this sit...
As he is doing so three of the skeletons before him thrust their spears, one slipping under the Elemental Shield of Moradin and bruising his left side, one coming from the other side through the opening between the shield and the arm reaching into the satchel gouging his right side, and the third coming over the shield penetrating the slight space between his helm and neck.
And without completing the thought Bruno Rhunthane falls.
OOC: Bruno is now at -5.
I went back and confirmed (I really need to get a fulltime job) that back in June in message #65 of OOC2: Where the Fallen Jarls Sleep there was a discussion of the Healing Potions we had purchased or somehow gained before setting out and I suggested that...
Uthecar, Zan, Gliden, and Myrrick should each take one.
The rest of us can heal ourselves, if necessary.
There's no other pick up or discussion beyond that. Indeed, I can't recall or find here where the potions came from, etc.
It also occurs to me that the reason I haven't yet suggested a strategic withdrawal is that we've still got the skeletons that brought me down on us. I keep forgetting that in AD&D there is no such thing as Attacks of Opportunity and that since the enemy happens to have first Initiative we might have withdrawn at any point up to now. (It's almost as if I was thinking about this last week, which is funny, because I was and I still didn't think it through completely.)
SO, here's to being slightly younger and even more slightly dummer!
