The Veil: Stronghold
The stronghold was a base of sorts for those who had survived the collapse of the dimensions, it was a hodge podge of fortifications, defenses, turrets, and other defense devices from all kinds of dimensions.

The group was located in one of the mass gathering places, were mostly introductions and socializing was in order.

The Veil: Stronghold
Churchill sat at a round table in the commons, fussing with a small generator. His trusty screwdriver buzzed quietly as he attempted to calibrate the foreign device, which so far did absolutely nothing. One of the official types he had met yesterday had heard he had a knack for fixing things and told him to take a look at it. The official told him it was a force field generator. They had several on a nearby exterior wall, but only handful of them worked.

Churchill wrinkled his nose in thought as he studied the generator carefully. So far, he had tweaked just about every dial and lever he could find, but none made any difference. There was one adjustment he hadn't tried yet, so he shrugged shoulders and gave it a turn with the screwdriver.

The generator glowed, hummed noticeably, then began to rattle on the table. Churchill nodded at the accomplishment. Before he had time to declare victory, however, the light intensity increased, as did the rattling. He reached for the power, but before he could turn it off, a ripple of energy radiated in all directions from the generator, knocking Churchill onto his butt and shattering a few glasses on nearby tables.

He leapt to his feet and scrambled to the generator, disabling it with a flick of his screwdriver. He noticed the commons had hushed. "Well," he announced to nobody in particular. "Looks like I got it fixed!"

Daniel looked blankly toward the disturbance in the common area. He had been sitting in a corner under a light sconce, engaged in a thick paperback. But the noise disturbed his reading. Fortunately, the interruption was short. The tall man scratched the short growth on his jaw, then returned to his book.

Beneath Daniel's chair was a case with a shoulder strap. Nothing on the exterior betrayed what was on the interior. For all anyone knew, Daniel was a trombone and that was his instrument below.

The tall man turned the page. His eyes were fixed on the paper. Not even the shapely blonde in the track suit that walked by disturbed his concentration. As long as there wasn't any more loud noise....

The lone Narakeian seemed mostly lost around here right now. Where he was normally so sure of where he was going, ever since the collapse things have been shakey in the politics of his kind. Their leaders, most whom are already fighting another one one way or another, were in utter chaos. Things weren't so bright... But that didn't matter. He could still do his job. In speaking of his job, he ended up following Churchill. He wanted to try and help with the broken generators, but like most things, it was technological; not "flow-connected", if that term was real...

He stood off to the side, watching in silence until the Generator released a shockwave. He knew something was wrong about a second before it popped; the generator lit up like a Christmas tree in his secondary vision. As Churchill was flung back and glass shattered, he raised an arm instinctively; and when he got hit, cracks broke out all over his arm and front upper body, on the exterior of his hard-light body. They were minor, but spread out.

"Oh dear." He muttered, looking over himself with a slight sigh before looking to Churchill. "Is it working? I can't tell." he asked the canine with curiosity.

Garry was grinding down a few herbs to make some extra blast powder when the force field generator went off. Initially, the halfling just laughed at the commotion when it was apparent that they weren't all going to die. Of course, that was when he noticed that some of the newly mixed powder landed in an open vial of liquid. A single sigh escaped his lips before he dove under a different table.

Garry shouted from his hiding spot."Take cover!" Then, for a second time that day, the common room was rocked with an explosion. When he decided to climb back out and inspect the damage, he saw that the table he had been working on was reduced to charcoal. Chuckling sheepishly, the alchemist began setting up on the table he had hid under. "Sorry guys, but at least it looks like today is going to be pretty exciting."

Misty slowly walked towards the group. She still had guilt feeling about not being able to do more. But it was done and her planet was gone as far as she knew. Now she was here with other survivors. She had on her long white cloak that contrasted with all of the other dark clothing she normally wore.

"Don't tell me you all are blowing something else up now are you? She sits down on a stool and shakes her head.

Miniya's entrance is heralded first by a pair of cat ears followed by the rest of her head peeking around the side of the door that leads out of the common room. With all of the commotion, the booming thumping and explosions she had thought that the Stronghold was under attack. Those amber eyes sweep the room before she relaxes, coming around the corner fully and looking over the assembled group hanging about.

"Everyone okay? Shouldn't we maybe um, setup a room or something that you guys can do that in? You know, so that guards don't come running and that loud noises don't cause people to worry.", while she seems outwardly calm, her traitor of a tail flicks back and forth in a nervous fashion.

Naszad looked over everyone in the room, while walking around and trying to find a perch. Skyguards had a habit of perching. The cracks in his body, after a few moments and sparks, sealed and disappeared. Simple regeneration.

"I think the guards have much more to worry about. At least, i do too..." he said somberly. He wasn't expressing it; as Narakeians didn't express much excluding "in the moment" expression, but he was stressed as high hell. Not only was his mental connection dimming with Genesis, but the events recently were what he believed the Narakeian Creator's success. The bad one. Regardless of who was responsible or what it was however... things were still horrible.

He did take solace in the knowledge that others from the Pillar he was connected to were still active; including Medarchi.

"What do we do? For the first time since my creation, i am genuinely unsure as to what the goal is now... the balance has collapsed in full. Dimensions are torn apart left and right..."

He didn't continue, rather getting on top of some cabinets and perching. Narakeians were surprisingly lightweight; excluding the "stone" ones.

"Got me but we need to do something. I can't just sit here and get old." she was also think how hapless she felt. She didn't know of any target to strike at. "I should probably exercise but I feel so lazy" she held out her hand and a bottle of water floated over to her. She popped it open and drank some down.

With yet another disturbance in the customary clamor of the commons, Daniel glanced up from his reading. He was not exactly sure what was going on, other than a short man hitting the ground to avoid a smoking piece of furniture. Whatever comments were said, Daniel didn't hear them. He purposely chose the corner where he was at to have at least a little peace. He returned to his reading, stifling a sneer.

The halfling watched as the cat person made her nervous entrance, and then as Naszad perched atop the cabinets. He chuckled a little at the display, not expecting such an action out of the large elemental like creature. After a moment, he turned towards the female wizard as she levitated a bottle. "You know, I'm sure we could all do with some exercise." Garry bagged the amount of powder he had mixed and placed it into his backpack before replacing his alchemy gear into his personal alchemy bag.

"Why don't we go looking for survivors? It's nice having a quiet place to ride this apocalyptic curse out, but I'm starting to get a case of the wanderlust. I entered those portals to explore new worlds, not laze about like a half-cat." Grinning a little, Garry winked at Miniya as she waited at the entrance of the room.

"Well, they destroyed the system I was in, so I had no choice but to fly in and crash here. I just hope R2D3 can finish up the repairs to my ship. They we could move around on it, if that's how we want to go. " she sips her drink of water. "But I agree, I am bored and want to see what is around here?"

Miniya considers rolling her eyes at Garry, but instead opts to stick her tongue out playfully. "Nyah". She taps her foot against the floor and takes a look at the gathered folks one more time before smiling. "Why don't we go to the top point of this place and look out, see what we can find? It's a big place and getting an idea of the layout and surrounding lands wouldn't be bad. I hate not knowing where I'm going."

Re: The Veil: Stronghold
Churchill smiled at his successfully repaired force field generator. With a confident nod, he switched it off and reached for the metal plate that would enclose the now tuned and calibrated electronics. Before he could put it in place, however, there was a call from across the room.

Garry Wilmin:
"Take cover!"

An instant later, a piece of shrapnel flew directly into the uncovered heart of the generator. Churchill sighed. A moment earlier and the force field would've still been active. A moment later and the metal enclosure would've been in place. But as luck would have it, the generator was completely vulnerable. The result was a smoldering pile of what only moments ago was a fully functional force field generator.

He grabbed the smoldering remains and proceeded toward the source of the explosion to give someone a piece of his canine mind. It appeared to originate from an ash pile around which stood (or perched) four figures, one of which was a half-cat. "Just my luck," he muttered to nobody in general.

They seemed to be in the middle of a discussion, but that didn't make any difference. "Hey, look," he interrupted, holding the smoldering generator up for all to see. "I just wanted to thank you all for destroying half a day's worth of work!"

The Veil: Stronghold
Dan's stomach growled. It had been doing so for the last half hour. Normally, the tall man wouldn't pay attention to such a thing. He knew that he'd have something to eat when he needed it. But, here in this strange place, the prospect for a next meal wasn't clear.

He realized that he had read and reread the same paragraph in his book. Dan sighed. He closed the book and put it in one of his lower coat pockets. It was time to look around some more.

"What in the world?" flashed through the man's head when he spotted what must be a human-cat hybrid of some sort. He had seen the flaming being and shrugged it off. The short man with the explosives wasn't the first of his kind that Dan had experienced. And the dog man? He seemed more normal than he should have been. But a cat woman?

"Egads."

Once again, the gas passing through Dan's system gargled. He needed to eat. And, by mere fortune, the solution to his need was spotted. A rotund gentleman in wool was stepping away from a device on the wall thirty feet away. Within his hands was a shiny metal tray, topped with what must settle for food on his world.

"All right" Dan muttered. He stood and grabbed the case from beneath his seat. He swung it over a shoulder and headed for the contraption on the wall.

The writing above the device wasn't English. As far as he could tell, it wasn't from Earth. A set of colored lights were spread across the top. Dan furrowed his brow. He understood that he wasn't handed a visitor manual when he encountered this new place. But, lacking knowledge of this world, a little help would be nice.

"I want a sandwich" Dan firmly stated. A pair of the lights blinked. But nothing came out in the small alcove.

"Sandwich. Sand-wich." Still nothing. Dan breathed out in exasperation.

"What do I have to do to get something to eat?" he practically spat out. More lights blinked. And, as if by magic, a metal tray appeared, neatly stacked with a selection of colored wafers. Dan stared at what he was given.

"Well, it ain't The Melrose House, but I guess it'll do."

Dan grabbed the tray. He gave the items on top a sniff. They didn't stink. He gave a small grunt, turned and returned to his table.

Returning the case to under the seat, Dan picked up one of the wafers. He smelled it, then nibbled off an edge. He smacked his lips, doing his best to delicately taste what he had just put in his mouth.

"Fish. Great. It had to be fish."

Dan put the rest of the wafer into his mouth and ate. He thought about the sensation of the morsel for a moment, then shrugged. He began to eat more. After a few of the wafers, Dan gave a small groan.

"Coffee. I wonder if this place knows what coffee is."

Chaotic. That's the word that ran through his mind as the flimsy generator exploded again, and complaints took over the room. "Why do you use such confusing and fragile things to begin with? Medarchi could lower the forcefield with her core alone... Although I doubt she would enjoy being rooted down for long."He said with a dull tone, resting his head in a hand. He then looked to Daniel.

"I have a feeling that you do not grasp the severity of this situation." He grumbled with the same dull tone. He put his head in both hands, looking at him and everyone else.
