Elam stands there looking from Ovo and Dergan and back to the flying blue creature with a growing look of confusion on his face. "I am not daft! Even the Dame of Brindol calls them allies. Leave them be!" As Grub bends down to retrieve his crossbow, the mage shoved the mercenary attempting to knock him to the ground while he was off-balance. Looking down over the fallen man, the mage continues. "She paid you to protect her and her allies. Admit your plot to betray us and I may show you mercy!"  Elam's eyes were wide and wild.

Tag team of Ovo and Dergan overpower the zombie wyvern in the southwest corner, hacking the undead monster to shreds. Dergan manages to get in the killing blow, but moments after reveling in the thrill of taking his opponent down, the fighter is overcome with an agonizing pain as the exceptionally deadly venom puts his heart into arrest. Dergan collapses onto the ground. White foam froths from the warriors mouth as he expires on the ground.

The blue abishai hovering over Ovo and Dergan cackles with glee. It beats its leathery wings and soars down to jab Ovo with its trident, a painful blow.

Shmee responds to this development by putting an arrow into the abishai.

Eoni turns the second wyvern zombie and it begins to retreat from the throng of heroes...

Vaxfar and Sarah press the attack and take down the turned zombie, and not a moment too soon. The Elf and Thief scarcely have an opportunity to catch their breath before noticing the iron door on the east wall fling open. Three dark, scaly, brutish humanoids with horns protruding for their heads barrel into the room, point at the adventurers, and draw broad swords to enjoin battle.

Laurenbeth and Rogar, curse, and rush up to engage the new foes. Both score hits against the devil-spawned dragon brutes--Blackspawn Raiders.

The Blackspawn Raiders strike back, one landing a blow against Laurenbeth.

The third Blackspawn Raider puffs up its chest and projectile vomits a stream of acid at Vaxfar...

Meanwhile, in the hallway, Elam shoves Grub really hard, causing the waif-like man to topple onto the ground. Murph growls, races forward, and bites Elam in the leg. Grub mutter-growls something unintelligible, but it's quite clear he is not too happy.

In the balcony, the other blue abishai struggles to free itself from the sticky webs.

"Sarah!" Dame Daflin shouted above the melee.  "Free the one on the balcony and he'll help us!  I'll cover you!"

Turning on the three new foes, the Sister of Avandra chanted, "Avandra's Grace and blessed will, keep us safe and evil still!"

She didn't know what was happening behind her, but she did see Dergen fall.  She'd need to get to him quickly before he bled out.

Elam's eyes flared when the dog bit his leg. "Now you send your mutt after me!? You will both die!" The warlock eyes fixated on the dog and he envisioned the beast lying on the floor, fur smoking as it died a torturous death. He knew killing the dog would bring the full ire of the man on the floor, so he prepared for the inevitable. The mage waved his free hand, whispered a few arcane words and suddenly where there was once one, there were now two of the decrepit warlocks. "You had your chance."  both forms warned in unison.

Dergan lies very very still, other than a bit of spit and froth that drips from his purpling lips.

The acid hits Vaxfar straight on and he howls in pain.  He swings wildly at the Raider but the pain of the acid causes him to miss.

Sarah decides she has no ready means of getting to the webbed devil, which is not only on the balcony but on the opposite side of the room.  But she realizes the free devil flying above the melee is causing lots of problems, given that he is not in melee range.

She swings her crossbow over and takes aim . . . and her shot is true; the bolt buries itself in the creature's abdomen.



10:59, Today: Sarah rolled 21,6 using d20+3,d6 with rolls of 18,6.  Crossbow on devil (13 to hit).

Laurenbeth and Rogar trade blows with the Blackspawn Raiders but are unable to land clean blows against their foes. Eventually, the Raiders grow weary of the match and vomit a jet of burning acid on the mercenaries, causing both to howl in pain as their flesh is singed by the caustic spray. Rogar stumbles and almost falls the ground before Laurenbeth offers a steadying arm. "Somebody help Rogar!" she calls out over her shoulder while supporting the large man's frame.

The Raider engaged with Vaxfar presses the attack, hoping its previous acid attack would have distracted the elf enough to score a telling blow, but Vaxfar wards off any such attack.

Meanwhile, the blue abishai is struck with a thrown axe and then a bolt. It curses out and jabs its trident at the Dwarf.

Meanwhile, Shmee attempts to get another shot off on the flying devil, but is distracted by the strange melee occuring next to him in the hallway. He reprimands the dog, "Murph! Come here!" Then to Elam, "What the hell is wrong with you?!"

Grub also calls out to the dog while picking himself up from the ground. Murph obeys and lets go of Elam's leg. "Dammit! You're starting to piss me off!!!" he shouts at the wizard. For the first time, Elam sees a flash of anger in Grub's demeanor. Grub retrieves his crossbow from the ground while shooting a death glare at the wizard...

"I'm trying!" Dame Daflin shouted up at their webbed ally on the balcony.  It's not like she could climb up there like Sarah does.  At least the three new ones weren't attacking it.  She was split between Dergen and Rogar, but the mercenary was still in the thick of it while the other was, very still.

Hustling up to tap Rogar with her staff, she chanted, "Avandra lend this man your Grace, renew his spirits, ease his aches."

Ovo threw his dagger with all the strength he had! The thing had been hit a number of times and just wouldn't go down! "Thar ye are! Take that in ye won't be last'n much longer devil spawn!"

Ovo then heard Laurenbeth's shout and began to run that way! "Rogar drop back! I be come'n!"

The dwarf raced to face the back demons and perhaps save another companion, stopping only to scoop up Dergan's sword. He was out of missle weapons so he hoped Sarah or Shmee could finish the blue one!

Sarah tries to finish off the hovering devil.  But in her haste, she misloaded the bolt.  The crossbow twangs as she fires, but the bolt's improper positioning causes it to spin up and behind her.


08:44, Today: Sarah rolled 4,3 using d20+3,d6 with rolls of 1,3.  Crossbow on devil (13 to hit).

Elam was about to blast the traitors in front of him when he heard the desperate cry for help from his blue winged ally. In perfect unison, both versions of the warlock turned to evaluate the flying beast's situation. Clearly the creature had taken many blows from those he thought were his allies.

Elam was not well versed in using magic to protect others, and he was very confused about who was on his side and who wasn't, but an idea crossed the mage's mind. "This fighting needs to stop! You are going to kill our ally!" The two images of the warlock murmured some words of arcana and pointed a finger at the injured flying beast. The beast suddenly vanished from sight.  "You cannot kill what you cannot hit. Now please focus on the spawn that are actually trying to kill us!"


Elam casts Invisibility 10' Radius centered on the injured flying devil.

The blue abishai and Ovo vanish from sight...

Vaxfar reeling from the acid damage takes a swig of a healing potion and prepares to defend himself.

21:17, Today: Vaxfar rolled 14 using 2d6+2 with rolls of 6,6.  Potion of super healing .

Laurenbeth trades blows with a Blackspawn Raider but finds herself overwhelmed by her foe's superior strength and swordplay. The veteran mercenary takes another punishing blow, this one enough to send her reeling backward.

Next to her, Rogar does his best to fight off his opponent and even finds a moment to say a word of thanks to Eoni, "Much obliged," he says in a deep baritone.

With Elam no longer harrassing him, Grub picks up his crossbow and takes aim at the blue abishai, but moments before he gets the devil sighted, both the devil and Ovo disappear. Suspecting Elam's handiwork, the man curses and momentarily lowers his crossbow to take aim on Elam. Seeing this, Shmee shakes his head and calls out, "Don't kill him! He's not in control of his mind!" Shmee jerks his head toward the foyer and advances forward to assist Laurenbeth and Rogar. After clearing the doorway, he fires an arrow at a Raider, but the arrow bounces off the creature's steel breastplate. Grub follows suit and likewise misses his target.

Meanwhile, Vaxfar evades his opponent while drinking down a healing potion.

He then casts a spell to protect his group.  [Private to GM: Cast protection from evil 10’ radius. I’ll try to position myself so as many party members are within 10’ of me]. “Stay within 10 feet of me and these evil creatures cannot hit you with their weapons!”

Deprived of her target, Sarah proceeds to that which she deems the next greater threat: the raiders.  She picks out the one that looks the most injured, and lets loose a shot from her crossbow.


11:36, Today: Sarah rolled 20,2 using d20+3,d6 with rolls of 17,2.  Crossbow on raider (12 to hit).

Elam was pleased that his spell was at least preventing further harm to his winged friend. Though the loyalty of these mercenaries was certainly questionable, the mage was certain that the dwarf and the heroes of Brindol must still be allies. This made the scaled humanoids the biggest threat at the moment.

Elam, and his duplicate, again recite some words of magic. They raised their right arms in unison, with a finger pointed at the raider that Ovo had just appeared next to. A single bolt of arcane energy shot out toward the beast. They swept their arms in a slow arc toward the beast that was attacking Laurenbeth and two more bolts Flew toward the raider, slamming into its scaly skin.

"The next ones could be at you if you don't regain your senses!" he snapped at Grub and Shmee. "Now send these things back to whatever hell they spawned from."

The adventurers rally against the Blackspawn Raiders as the sound of battle rage within in the foyer. Blades clash and missiles both magic and mundane streak through the chamber while the blue abishai continues to work itself free of the sticky webs. The other blue abishai remains invisible.

Eoni heals Laurenbeth with her magic staff, to which the outspoken mercenary leader grunts her approval while landing a solid blow against her foe.

Ovo and Elam take down a Blackspawn Raider apiece, leaving just the one engaged with Vaxfar. Despite Vaxfar, magic protection, his foe lands a blow.

OOC: Several PCs are now under the Protection from Evil, 10 ft radius spell, as noted in the table below.
