Character Creation

Character creation will generally follow guidelines listed on page B5 of the Moldvay Basic D&D booklet. Players who do not have this book can use the guidelines found on page 6 of Labyrinth Lord, available for free download at: http://www.goblinoidgames.com/labyrinthlord.html

Details, in brief, are listed below:

1. Generate Ability Scores, Roll 3d6 six times. Assign results to the six basic attributes as you wish.

2. Select a Character Class you wish to play. Write down any special abilities your character gains from their class.

3. New characters will begin play with 50,000 XP

4. Ability Score Adjustments. Players may adjust their prime requisite by lowering the scores of some of the other abilities. If a player chooses to do this, 2 ability points may be sacrificed from one ability to raise one prime requisite ability 1 point. This may be done more than once, but no ability can be lowered below 9. There are certain restrictions on how to raise or lower abilities. No ability may be lowered if it is also a prime requisite for the class, even if there are a few points to spare above the minimum required score. Dexterity can only be raised, never lowered. Constitution and Charisma are the only abilities that may not be modified in any way.

5. Bonuses and Penalties. Note the bonus or penalty next to your ability score.

6. Determine Hit Points. Characters gain maximum hit points at 1st level and roll dice as normal for subsequently gained levels.

7. Select an Alignment: Lawful, Neutral or Chaotic.

8. Determine starting equipment and gold. Equip your character with whatever basic equipment you deem appropriate. Roll 3d6 x 25 to determine how much starting gold your character has. I will work with you during character creation to determine which magic items will be appropriate for your experienced character.

9. Determine Armor Class.

10. Name your character and fill in the finishing details.
