That's fine, if you don't get a chance I'll bear that in mind for the next GM post.

Re: OOC

Let me know where you'd like to head and what you'd like to investigate next. If there's something pressing we'll move the investigation that way, if not we'll merge things back into the main thread and you can continue your investigation from there.

Depending on what goes on I'll likely have you guys make a DC22 or DC24 fortitude save to avoid being fatigued.

If someone fails a save there is always lay on hands (mercy) to remove fatigue
Good grief! I am betting on no continuances or extra time to gather evidence either....

I see it as a win either way
The shopkeeper spend a night in jail and at worst Vadim has to give back his badge
And we get to continue on to the last stop.. x

Re: OOC

I may have to take the mercy, Shade's Fort save is not super-great.

In other news, can Vadim take Radniche while Constantine and Shade go check out the chemical factory?  Because I was thinking the distance to the factory, time it might take to search it, and the time to get back before the trial starts might be tight or impossible.  And we can introduce evidence later, I believe, we just don't get bonuses on it.

Re: OOC

Vadim's plan was more to intimidate Radniche to get more information out of him than to actually arrest him, so he'll likely head to the chemical factory as well. Are you planning to walk over there now, or to wait until you can get a cab or hire horses?

Re: OOC

The night time investigation thread has pretty much caught up to the main Chapter 2 thread so we're moving the action back there. Feel free to put up a 'reconnoitering at the inn' type post if you would like, barring any other avenues of investigation I'll put up a post moving the action along to the chemical factory this weekend.

In reply to GM (msg # 451):

Or 320 gold for a carriage and two horses
A bit more if we want 4 horses
Fairly cheap to hire drivers after that

OR 5,000 for a combat trained hippogriff ; )

Re: OOC

I mean, Shade's got the money, but she'd be more inclined to go for the carriage and horses, particularly if someone else knows how to drive.  Those could be easily sold back when we're done with them, and two horses require less stabling and care than four.

Re: OOC

Indeed!

I recall asking how long the golem had been mucking about the region
I don’t recall the exact answer but it seems like a decade or two
With no accusations of evil until only 1 year ago
DM can you add how long Solomon has been a resident of the area?

Found it !   30 years!
That creation date may predate the chymical works (and the residents even living here) or it may not
Assuming is bad

Re: OOC

You could certainly find out with a Gather Information ;)

You could also buy a horse and buggy, or rent one for the next couple of days. A horse and buggy would run you 90g, or you could rent one from a stable for 3gp a day. Hiring a driver would be 1sp per day, or 5sp if you want him on-call 24 hrs a day.

Re: OOC

I just found new (to me anyway) information on the code:

Paladin Code
Of all the neutral gods, only Abadar supports and promotes a holy order of paladins. As the god of civilization and order, Abadar recognizes the value of holy warriors in advancing society’s aims. His paladins follow the standard paladin code of protecting the innocent, acting with honor and honesty, and respecting lawful authority. In addition, an Abadaran paladin upholds the following creed.

I am a protector of the roadways and keep travelers from harm. No matter their destinations or goals, if they are peaceable and legitimate travelers who harm no others on the road, I will ensure that they pass safely.
Bandits are a plague. Under my will they come to justice. If they will not come willingly before the law, where they can protest for justice in the courts, they will come under the power of my sword.

Corruption in the courts is the greatest corruption of civilization. Without confidence in justice, citizens cannot believe in their countries, and civilization begins to disappear. I will root out corruption wherever I find it, and if a system is fundamentally flawed, I will work to aid citizens by reforming or replacing it.

I am an aid to the markets. I ensure equitable trade between merchants and citizens. Theft and deceit on either side are intolerable.
I make opportunities, and teach others to recognize them. When I aid others, I open the way for them, but will not carry them—they must take responsibility.

Re: OOC

I played a paladin of Abadar once. Like, he doesn't care if goblins are raiding nearby villages and pillaging farms. But if those goblins fail to declare earned income on their annual tax forms there'll be hell to pay.

He was a militant CPA paladin.

Re: OOC

It sounds like Constantine and Shade want to go to the chemical factory, but Constantine wants to drop the evidence off with Kaple first. I'll move you over to a scene with him, and if you don't have other questions for him we'll move you and anyone who wants to accompany you to the factory afterwards.

Re: OOC

Although SCG believes the evidence is sufficient for reasonable doubt the chymical works still needs to be investigated
To preserve evidence for finding the perpetrator of the Morast murders

I also hope those staying here can make sure to arrange post trial transit to our next destination
So rent to the works and buy for future trips?

Re: OOC

If you're renting a cab for the trial or hiring a cab for the trip the cost is fairly negligible, I'm okay handwaving it if you'll delete a gold or two from your sheet.

I've updated the journal thread with the information from the brief on Hergstag that Kaple provided.

Re: OOC

Awesome!

I blew a large portion of the inheritance on the holy symbol;
I have deducted 20 gold to have transit from the courthouse to any location 24/7
Assuming that can be handled by the court clerk (who is probably earning 2 of those coins in commission)

DM please let me know if the cost is more than that.  I can go up to 60, before I will be searching for left over coins in my belongings...

Re: OOC

20 gold is plenty, and will act as a deposit and retainer at a rental rate of 3 gold per day. So you're paid up for 6 days, and if the investigation is shorter than that you'll get the remainder of your deposit back.

Re: OOC

Probable cause is a judgement call, so really it's up to you. Mechanically what that means is that, if the suspect feels that he was unjustly searched, he (or his lawyer) will call for an investigation into the circumstances leading up to the search. You make opposed Knowledge: Nobility or Profession: Barrister checks and if his lawyer wins your search is ruled illegal. He'll file a motion to suppress, which will all but guarantee that any evidence gathered during the search is inadmissible in court.

You know how tough guy cops in police procedurals are always chasing scumbags who got off on a technicality? This is that sort of technicality.

Obtaining a warrant is similar, except instead of an opposed check it's a DC 15 check to make the case before a judge that the search is warranted.
