Re: OOC

Hmm, are two new people with similar names going to be a problem for anyone?

Calin and Cain are just 1 letter apart after all.

I could swap to something else as well if it will be easier on others.

Re: OOC

It could get a bit confusing.

You can set your name to anything you would like it to be, and we'll muddle through any potential issues. If either of you would like to swap to something more distinct let me know and we'll make that happen.

Re: OOC

You can swap my first name to Adrin so that Kael/Cain can have their preferred name.

Re: OOC

Greetings all, I'll be playing a newcomer to these lands, a sneaky half-elf Eldritch Scoundrel.

No need to worry about alignment conflicts too much. Sure, he may have done a bit of petty thievery in the past, and he has more than a bit of a gambling problem, and he is lying pretty much all the time, and... and ok, he's a bit of weasel all around, but he's not an evil weasel. He's a weasel with a heart of gold.

He's also not a face material at all, unless a bluff roll is called for. I'll try to minimize stepping on other character's terrain as much has I can, so if anyone is worried about this just let me know. I plan on having a wide range of skills, but only really concentrate in typical rogue skills (Acrobatics, Stealth, Bluff and the like).

About the character name, I'm ok with changing it to avoid confusion. Calin, would you say Caius would be sufficiently different? Cai for his friends (if he had any).

Re: OOC

Adrin, I've updated your name. Newcomers, let me know if you want any other last minute adjustments on the logistical side.

Try to get a crunchy sheet finished and submitted as soon as you can. There isn't a huge rush, you are free to post and participate in the game, but until you submit a full character sheet you will auto-fail any crunchy skill checks or attacks that you make.

Basically you can socialize, but until you have your character sheet done you fail at anything involving dice.

Keep your eyes on the main chapter 2 thread, link to a message in this game.

I'll put up an intro post for you there with some of the background about the game and investigation. You can wade through the game history if you'd like, but it's pretty long and I don't expect you to read the whole thing. I'll try to recap everything in this post so that you can join in the investigation and hit the ground running.

Feel free to ask any questions here, or you can ask in-character as new investigators assigned to the case.

Re: OOC

You can post as often as you like. I try to put up one GM post per day on weekdays at about noon-ish. So the game will advance at a steady pace, you can post and converse as much as you'd like without fear of running away with the narrative before slower posters can catch up. You also don't need to feel like you have to post every day if you don't have something specific to add to the scene, although obviously more posting is better.

Kendra isn't in the office at the moment, but she's still in the courthouse with all of her research material. You can call her in, or confer with her after your meeting with Kaple and the new group members.

Re: OOC

Sorry I got long-winded in that post!

Also GM - I added my familiar to my sheet just now which I'd forgotten to do.

Let me know if you have any questions on anything on the sheet or whatnot.

Yes I named him Solomon Grundy.  Thus far I am the only one
Though I also asked that Kaple request he not be referred to as “the beast of..:” anymore

Re: OOC

The keep watch spell is limited to light activities and ends if we fight or do anything vigorously
Although if it is in effect for 6 hours then you only need 2 hours of actual sleep for the full benefit

My plan is to use it tonight after the day is done so we can still be awake, do research, strategize, etc
I can only use it on two people...

Maybe cast it on the carriage ride back to town ...

Re: OOC

Ok, then.  Hopefully nothing strenuous happens, because I think we need to sleep in truth to get the effects of our level-up.  :)  Of course, in a situation like this, I don't expect anything to come easy...  *looks about shiftily*

Re: OOC

You can use the Keep Watch spell to stay up late with no ill effects, although you can't run around investigating or adventuring, and Constantine's Lay on Hands will remove the Fatigued condition if you stay up late without magical assistance.

It won't remove the exhausted condition if you stay up for two nights though, which I feel is a good middle ground between "your class features and powers can be leveraged for a power boost in the right situation" and "paladins exist, therefore no adventuring party needs sleep ever".

Re: OOC

Good idea.  Though the spell is limited by level so right now I can effect only two people
And it really is restricted against vigorous activity

Mostly I like the idea of the ever vigilant Paladin
Reminds me of the blood guard in the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant
Though they were sworn to an oath kind of oath bound defenders
It is the flavor of the spell that I like

The spell is rated poorly by all the Paladin guides....

Cool, cool, so at least I won't be at a terrible disadvantage. I will be sleeping at some point today though, because momma wants her level three spells eventually! :D

Re: OOC

Definitely keep muddling! Everyone stay safe, and be sure to prioritize your real life needs and safety over playing with us here.

I've added the map of Hergstag to the Journal thread, and moved the investigation along to the village. Let me know where you head first, or the sorts of things you're looking for and I'll move the investigation along those lines.

And Constantine certainly seems to have cottoned on to something that may have important implications to the account of the Beast's encounter with the townsfolk.

Re: OOC

I hadn't really noted that, though I do remember confusion IRL when I was reading those posts. Good insight, and totally makes sense since the story was he brought the girl into town laughing...

Did we see Solomon shedding actual tears or anything when he was sobbing?

Or at least this part:
Strange how laughter looks like crying with no sound
Raindrops taste like tears without the pain.
