Re: OOC

Decided to role-play off your harrow deck.

Hope no one minds...

And yes Archons are great creatures to summon

Re: OOC

Actualy, now that I look at it more closely, does Mage Armor work here? I presume we are fighting wraiths of some kind, and they get "incorporeal touch" attack. Mage Armor specifically states that "Since mage armor is made of force, incorporeal creatures can’t bypass it the way they do normal armor." So, it does work against incorporeal touch attacks, but not normal touch attacks? Is this right?

Re: OOC

RAW I don't think Mage Armor applies to touch AC, but that extra blurb does make it seem like it's effective against ghost touch attacks. The nature of the attack is that you're being harmed by exposure to the negative energy nature of the spirit, which can pass through regular armor but not through force effects like mage armor. Other touch attacks, though, are effective because they work even if they touch your armor, magical or mundane.

So mage armor will be effective against the native touch attacks of ghosts and incorporeal creatures, but it wouldn't be effective if that creature cast shocking grasp or something, since shocking grasp wouldn't be affect by mage armor even if the caster were corporeal.

Re: OOC

And Shield also has that effect. Hmm, it sounds like Cain may need to be played more like a tank than a rogue while we are here. Does Constantine have some way to deal with wraiths? I'm afraid I only had one Mage Armor prepared.

Re: OOC

RAW Mage Armor and Shield work just like normal armor and shield for things like Touch AC/Flat Footed AC.

The only exception are incorporeal touch attacks specifically. Mage Armor/Shield effectively turn touch attacks into normal attacks for that character and AC calculation.

To count as incorporeal touch attacks, the monster's attack entry should say
quote:
Melee incorporeal touch

Though because "editing" exists, there may be some creatures who have the incorporeal subtype and touch attacks that aren't correctly listed as such.

And yes, if the incorporeal creature was casting shocking grasp, mage armor and shield would not apply because they don't apply to normal touch AC, just incorporeal touch AC.

God I love the complexity of 3.5/PF sometimes. I really warms my semantics loving heart.

Note to self, find better way of fighting incorporeal creatures. Because that is definitely one of my weaker points!

Again?

I can remove fatigue along with the lay on hands, but can’t do a restoration

Looks like I need to use a slot for a lesser restoration spell.
Anyone else have that on their list?

Re: OOC

I've moved you over to talk to the witnesses first. If you'd like to stop in town to do some shopping we can hand wave it, if you would like to break off for other investigations or stay behind at Hergstag let me know and we'll spin off a new thread.

Re: OOC

I hope we'll be able to return before Cain's Mage Armor expires (another 4 hours). He does not have another one prepared, and with his Shield already gone it will be that much tougher to stand against those incorporeal attacks.

Also, if someone has the cash, Holy Weapon Balm is very effective on ammunition.

Re: OOC

The carriage ride is about an hour, so depending on how long you spend in Lepidstadt you could have 2 hours or so to sweep the town. Probably not enough time to take 20 thoroughly searching every building, but you would likely be able to do a sweep of the town to locate and fight any enemies in that time, especially since you have a good idea of how many enemies you are likely to fight.

Also some bum news: I've just gotten word from Vadim that he'll have to withdraw from the game to take care of things at home. We'll miss him, he's a great writer.

I also haven't seen Darcon log on in a couple of weeks. I'm going to give absences the benefit of the doubt, especially for the time being with all of this coronavirus craziness.

Re: OOC

Cain:
Was any other body besides Ellsa's recovered?

Was her body examined for cause of death? Or other bodies if they were found?

Did Ellsa's ghost also haunt the village after her death?

Finally, fourth victim is listed as age 22, is that right? A bit of an anomaly there.

The casefile doesn't mention any other bodies recovered. Officially the five other victims besides Ellsa are listed as Missing.

The file doesn't have any coroners notes or mentions of an autopsy or examination of Ellsa.

Yes, her ghost was reported to have haunted the village.

The fourth victim Vania Stonebrow was dwarven, at 22 she was at the same general phase of life--middle childhood--as the other victims.

Constantine - I'm pretty sure these witnesses are already back in town.

We had to travel back to town to talk to them, they fled with everyone else when the town was abandoned.

That's right, they run a windmill on the outskirts of Lepidstadt. Everyone else has fled farther, out of Lepidstadt's environs or even out of Ustalav entirely.

Re: OOC

No... Adrin is extrapolating based on the Beast's descriptions of the ghost things attacks, our own experience, and the one story of the kid dying in a locked and shuttered room.

He's... putting words into their mouths in a way, though he thinks its a real and safe assumption to make. If he can get them to agree to it though and then we have them as witnesses at the trial, then this conversation will color how they respond to questions at the trial itself.

Ah, right. Sorry, I thought they maybe they had answered it and I missed it somehow.

In any case, dead child in a locked room, that definitely sounds like the work of our many-eyed friend.
