Chapter 5 - Under the Temple of Pain

Cole rushes at the hissing frog-thing and manages to catch it mid-hiss with a vicious slash across the frog-thing's chest for 9 points of damage.  Its hiss of outrage becomes a hiss of pain.

Anthony pulls out a dart.  He manages to keep his rations in his stomach for the moment.

Elwood strides before the frog, shines his brilliant shield-light upon it, and bellows, "TO THE ABYSS WITH YOU!"  The frog thing is not turned (it is apparently alive), but the cleric's conviction startles it.

The frog is sufficiently startled and distracted by the cleric that it fails to dodge Jack's axe blow.  3 points of damage worth of green blood spray over the machine.

Seline draws her rapier and heads toward the corral.  She can see that the machine has an exit chute that presumably dumps the meat cubes into the corral at the end of its operation cycle.  The cubes seem to respond to Seline's presence as they begin to bounce around with greater agitation when she approaches.

Meanwhile, the frog gets its act together and launches itself up to the ceiling where its hands and feet adhere to the surface.  On his way up, his tongue shoots out at Cole and wraps itself around Cole's neck.  Cole is wrenched into the air and takes 1 point of damage from tongue-based whiplash.  The frog is now at least 15 feet off the floor and glaring down hatefully at the party.  Cole dangles about 5 feet below the frog, choking and fighting to remain conscious despite the coiling pressure on his windpipe.  The good news is Cole manage to hang onto his sword.  Striking the frog or its tongue while he dangles will be difficult due to poor leverage, but he might pull it off.  Or he could try to pull the tongue off his neck before he is strangled.  Decisions decisions...

Chapter 5 - Under the Temple of Pain

Elwood rushes to get under Cole and props him up (letting Cole stand on Elwood's shoulders - he's 6 ft tall, or even his head; whatever is required to allow Cole some, literally, breathing space and leverage to slice the toad's tongue or whatever).

Chapter 5 - Under the Temple of Pain

Cursing silently, Cole steadies his wriggling body as much as he is able and tries valiantly to wrest the frogman's nasty tongue from around his throat.

Chapter 5 - Under the Temple of Pain

For what it's worth, I forgot to mention the formerly twitching child's body has been sucked into the machine.  You can hear all sorts of metallic clanking and squishy biological sounds coming from the machine's interior.  Various colored liquids periodically flow through the clear tubes protruding from the exterior of the machine.  Seline can see steam coming out of the exit chute along with a nasty body odor smell reminiscent of sweat and urine.

Chapter 5 - Under the Temple of Pain

Anthony, his face ashen, vigorously flings his dart at the frog holding Cole, hoping to hurt it at least a little.. He then pulls out another, ready to fling it next round...

Attack with dart, and pull another.

Chapter 5 - Under the Temple of Pain

Seline all of sudden distracted by the steam and horrific smell coming out of the machine starts looking at the machine for something that looks absolutely necessary that she can destroy to render the machine at least temporarily useless

Chapter 5 - Under the Temple of Pain

Things just keep getting more and more bizarre. Just when he was hoping for a few more good whacks at the frog creature, it decides to strangle Cole from the ceiling.

For lack of a better option, Jack takes several steps back and swaps out his axe for a short bow and prepares to pepper the slimy creature on the ceiling.

Chapter 5 - Under the Temple of Pain

The frog flicks its tongue so that Cole slams into the ceiling for 2 points of damage.

Elwood rushes forward as Cole drops back down.  The cleric arrives just in time to catch Cole on his shoulders before being further injured by hanging.

Cole manages to unwrap the cruel toad tongue from around his neck and falls to a safe landing on his feet.

The recoil from its tongue snapping back causes the frog's head to whiplash backward and out of the path of Anthony's dart.

Seline easily identifies vulnerable parts to the machine.  Various tubes connect different parts of the machine and periodically liquids of different colors shoot through the tubes.  A few flicks of a dagger should sever the tubes and prevent the flow of the liquids.

Jack slides his axe into a waiting ring on his belt and readies his bow for action.
