Episode Two: Bog Standard
Tessa, staying several steps away from the gremlins, added: "I thought he should see you immediately."
"And I didn't want those things in my inn" went unspoken, but was certainly understood.
It took Zhorr a moment before his mouth started working again: "I see... Thank you Tessa, Uldus, we'll take it from here. Levithian, if you would be amenable, for the time being I would have a room prepared for the four of you, and debrief you all in the morning."
Lia cleared her throat: "Dee? Did I just hear you invite three gremlins to take residence under our roof?"
Before Zhorr could answer, Arbr looked at Levithian and said: Exclamation bark. Expletive expletive, question bark.
Polite insult, implication of unnatural relationships with six-legged animals, question mark. Replied Zhorr with mild perplexity.
Suggestion of impure genealogy, a pox on the children's children until the seventh generation, invitation to perform anatomically unlikely acts on one's self. Added Lia.
At least, that's what the conversation sounded like to those who did not speak undercommon.
As it turned out, Arbr was asking about Levithian's promise, and Zhorr and Lia were offering reassurances. Undercommon really is a rather ugly language.
