State of the Union

Okay, quick global update.

1. I have three sheets completed that I'll be going over in some detail tonight. Once they're approved and final tweaks are applied, I'll post them in a sticky thread.
2. If anyone has any lingering questions that I haven't addressed, please PM me.
3. I'm going to come up with some initial ideas for the organization you all work for maybe tonight, but tomorrow is more likely.
4. Ditto the Event. I might do some communal storytelling for that, or I might just make it up. Haven't decided yet.

I think I'd like to get the first IC thread up on or about Wednesday.

State of the Union

Okay everyone. I'm very sorry about that. I have a complicated and unpredictable RL and sometimes a thing goes on and my bandwidth is just full for a bit. I'll try to give you a heads up when I see it coming, but I don't always.

I'm writing the opening IC post now.

Some things to keep in mind as we start:
-If you get into the game and your character isn't working, if your niche gets overshadowed, your powers aren't as cool as you were hoping, you want more this or less that, Don't Panic. Just drop me a PM. We'll talk it out. I've already done some hand-balancing for some of you already and I don't mind doing more of that if it makes things more fun. Part of the glory and the horror of Palladium is that everyone does it very differently, so stepping on toes is more of a feature than a bug. So the more grace and understanding we can extend, the more we can assume that everyone is acting in good faith and just has a different set of assumptions and preconceptions, the better. And, again, if something seems off, let me know. I have no problem talking it out.

-I plan to use a combination of direct 'punchable' threats and less direct 'non-punchable' threats. The scale that HU operates at is VERY good for punching, and not at all good for anything else. So if there's, say, a tornado about to wreck a trailer park, you'll find that the things on your sheet might not give you many tools to handle it. Again, don't panic. feel free to think outside the box for your powers and abilities. Throw out some ideas, try a few lateral-shift uses for your powers. Maybe you can punch the sea so hard you cause a tidal wave. Maybe you can fly so fast a sonic boom puts out a fire.

-The single most important controllable element of a PbP game is momentum. So I'll always try to start a scene as far in as a I can, and wrap scenes up as soon as I can. This also means I'll try to wrap up combat as soon as the main conflict is resolved with a 'you mop up the remnants' post so we're not just doing endless math with no stakes. Sometimes that means I'll skip past something you wanted to say or do. Don't panic. If you can't wiggle it into your post, just let me know. There's lots of ways to manage it, from split scene posts to retconning.

-As a general rule, when it comes to the infinite march of questions the rules don't answer, I'd prefer you seek forgiveness rather than ask permission. Can a super laser melt a super weapon? You tell me. Is there a phone booth nearby? You tell me. Does the mayor's daughter have a cat? You tell me. Can your super senses tell if that dude's bulge is just a roll of socks? You tell me. I think everyone has a sense of the scale and genre we're operating in here, so I don't anticipate anyone will be all "And then I destroy the moon with the bomb I hid there last year." And, if you go too far, or mess up something I've got planned, I'll let you know.

Basically, this is everyone's game. Mine and each of yours. I plan to try and move fast and story hard so there might be some rough patches. But so long as we all assume the best intentions, and you all let me know if something isn't working for you, we ought to be okay.
