Out of character thread for banter, out of character game discussion, dead baby jokes, etc.

I'm liking the 1930s setting more and more. There's a pretty sweet looking campaign available and a collection called Arkham Detective Tales that could be good, but let's just give the scenario in the rule book a test first.

It's set in 1938 Cleveland.

The Hook: for political reasons an outsider unknown to the local police force is brought in to help investigate a series of grisly murders.

I'd shoot for a mixture of pulp and old school Lovecraft. No masked crime fighters, but not necessarily ultra realism.

Didn't see where I could make a character sheet yet but I put what I have in the character details section for now.

Not having played before or seeing how giving/taking the system is I think I did an okay job. It is a pretty pure character design as it was built off of who I see Jimmy as more so than milking any rules.

I used the hardboiled build of the PI so if you do the math there are a few abilities that are 1/2 the price that are different than the initial profession ones they give you.

As stated, I did 29 points for the Investigation Abilities and kept to the 65 for the General Abilities.

I'm not sure how deep you want to get into this but if it lends to it I plan on keeping a murder board and notes on the investigation. Feel free to provide pictures, maps, whatever you want.

If you have questions about previous case details, you can just tell me you're referring to the case file and I'll give you an answer from that.

Will do, didn't realize there was more in there than the map and victim list.

Do I have to tell you want I want to use a skill I have, like assess honesty or cop talk or will you take it upon yourself to incorporate it into the narrative? Either way is fine, just didn't know how you want to play it.

I guess we could share the responsibility based on who is initiating the moment as well. I will post under the OOC my intention/skill if that works for you.

Sometimes I'll use skills passively and give you the clue. I'll try to remember to throw in a quick note about what skill got you the clue so you don't go over the same ground.

Most of the time though, go ahead and tell me what skill you want to use and to what end.

EDIT: Your character sheet should be open for editing now.

And yeah, the case file has more stuff than just the case summary and map. It's NOWHERE near what the Police have in their file (as I understand it this is the largest investigation in Cleveland PD history), but there's more basic info if you need it. They just weren't going to create a 30 page case file handout. That being said, you can probably guess that there aren't any significant clues or leads hidden in the case file that weren't included in the handout.

Do you want to tell me what the tattoo is or can I pick? You had said something about a tie in so not sure if I can be whatever. I was going to use the necronomicon symbol.

I actually have no idea what happened to Pearce and don't feel like doing the research. Needless to say, he is not relevant.

James Samhain:
"Hey there, you Willy? I heard you can provide?" Jimmy whispers in a gravely voice.

OOC: Can you give me some detail as to the setting. Or just a yes or no, I assume there are shanties here and there, perhaps an empty one? How many people are around us? If this talk gets a little tough I just need to know the environment.

No shanties. Kingsbury Run is the shanty town. The Third District (or Roaring Third), is the rough part of town full of flop houses, brothels, gambling dens, dive bars and drug houses. It's where Lester's bar and Frank Dolezal's apartment were located. And there are people about, though they're giving the crazed Willy a wide berth at the moment.
