Some people expressed concern in their RTJs about the quantity of setting info posted here. Given that I've just posted 3,500 goddamn words of mythology and cosmology from the Book of the Righteous, I'm inclined to agree. 8-]

To those who have joined the game and those looking at it and considering applying, rest assured that you do not NEED to read everything I've posted.

You can easily skip over the mythology and the gods in the Magic & Religion thread, and the timeline in the Gazetteer. Reading the descriptions of the nations is all you really need to get and idea of the setting, its flavour and conflicts. The rest is just there if you want to get a deeper context to the origins of the religions and races.

I like the integration of the 8 circles of spells into the timeline and that it doesn't seem like 9th circle spells have been found yet. That sounds like a GOAL to me.

Most settings assume magic was more powerful and ubiquitous in the past; I wanted to try something a little different and have it advance more like a science.

That doesn't mean that magi couldn't work wonders in Carthas' past, though - the Pyramids were built with little more than stone, wood, rope and mathematics, after all, but rival much of what we can accomplish today in scale and majesty.

I'd enslave a wizard. Think they're so high and mighty with their pointy hats and their man-dresses. Sitting up there judging me. And that's just my OOC line on them!

But in all seriousness, the idea of turning that assumption of 'things were more enlightened in the past' into 'here, look, there's more yet to discover' feels fresh, and couches magic a little more comfortably into the world. It makes it a branch of technology rather than a foil to it.

Subtle, but effective.

And the last, for the goblin at least.

Heads up for any potential applicants reading this: The plan is to leave the RTJs' open for a couple of days, until Friday evening (NZ time), then I'll make the selection.
