Character Creation
Hihi Mish-Mash, looking forward to playing with you.

I'm a geek trying to learn to code... so I made a quick character roller using BBCode... I'm going to use it for my next two characters. It basically automates the rolls for you, click on a link then the dice roller opens and the roll with memo is populated after you roll the dice.

OK, I'll admit it, I've too much free time on my hands...

I ended up rolling 2 characters I didn't like as much as my first. So I'm sticking with her.

BTW, I see her as a Superheroine with a magical amulet that awakened her latent psychic powers (Her Precog and Danger Sense Powers) and bonded her to the spirit of Justice within the amulet. She now swings through the night, going where she's needed most. Once there, Erinys takes over and brings evil doers the Just Reward they've earned through their dastardly deeds. Rather then having Erinys' power be Time Control, the Spirit sees it as the Skeins of the Web of Fate that she uses to bind and punish those who owe a debt to Fate.

Hope that makes sense :)

Glamour

Origin: Gimmick

Prowess: 5 (Exceptional human)
Coordination: 5 (Exceptional human)
Strength: 4 (Above-average human)
Intellect: 4 (Above-average human)
Awareness: 8 (Superhuman)
Willpower: 6 (Maximum human)

Powers: Illusion 5, Reflection 4, Flight 5

Specialities: Acrobatics, Occult

Background:

When Ashley Adams was on holiday in Scotland, she encountered the Fairy Queen while wandering alone in the woods. The Fairy Queen tried to trick Ashley with various illusions, but Ashley saw through them, and was gifted with a magical gown (of 'grass green silk') as a reward.

The gown styles itself however Ashley wants, anything from a mini-dress to an evening gown; it doesn't seem to lengthen, so much as simply change the moment no-one is looking at it. It permits Ashley to create illusions in someone's head, to reflect attempts to cause her harm, and to fly.

Realising the powers of the gown, Ashley became a heroine, taking another word for fairy magic - glamour - as her own. She began to study fairy myths and legends to learn more about her strange gift.

Determination: 6-4-1 = 1

Qualities & Challenges: TBD

Star Sentinel

Origin - Unearthly

Prowess 3 (Average)
Coordination 5 (Excellent)
Strength 6 (Remarkable)
Intellect 5 (Excellent)
Awareness 4 (Good)
Willpower 5 (Excellent)

Powers

Resistance (damage) 4 (Good)

Flight 6 (Remarkable)

Specialties

Technology

Stamina 11
Determination 3

Qualities

Famous teen hero/idol
Seen as too sweet, too young, too naive and too innocent.
Tougher than she appears.

Background

The Sentinel was a Galactic Guardian... a being of pure energy that patrolled the galaxy to protect it from cosmic disaster and threats. When the cosmic pulse targeted the small inhabited planet called by it's native population as 'Earth'. The Sentinel was able to stop the cosmic wave, but at great cost.

Dying, the Galactic Guardian transferred the last of its energy to the nearest comparable host, a young college girl named Harmony Clark. With her newfound powers, she became an instant celebrity and a role model to teens everywhere.

Notes - Pretty generic hero this time. But a little more heroic. Might fit the campaign a little better

Re: Character Creation
Heres my characters extended background

Wind-Chill wasn’t born he was made, Professor Anderson was a leading light in weather patterns and predicting where storms would hit with great mathematical accuracy.
Sadly he slipped into paranoia, depression and some say insanity after his wife died when she had been caught unawares by a tornado while he was abroad lecturing rather than tracking weather fronts.
He blamed himself and he trough it all away by becoming a tornado chaser. In the scientific world his less sympathetic peers compared him to Ahab and Moby Dick. The tornado had become Anderson’s great white wale.

Anderson disappeared for a while but a few years later rumours surfaced that he’d got himself a mysterious backer and now had the state of the art equipment. One of his high tech machines was a humanoid shaped probe that they would drop off in the path of a tornado to be sucked up into the spout and record wind velocity and the like while being battered within the storm.
The devise was constructed out of dense metal giving it great resistance and strength to the forces at work within the twister. It was human in shape so they could better understand what happened to a human while being subjected to the storm.

At the height of the tornado season they got a warning of a huge funnel that was going to touch down that afternoon. The Tornado chasers geared up and went after it. They managed to get in front of the beast and placed the machine in its path.

As the funnel hit the machine was sucked in to the vortex and disappeared. Readings relayed back were off the scale and the team knew these readings would place Anderson back in the for front of  the academic community and make them and their backer very rich.

But something went wrong. The energy of the storm generated a lighting strike within the funnel. The machine was the largest piece of metal in there and the lightning struck it. Connection to the van was last, if they couldn’t retrieve the machine all their data would be lost but try as they might all control over it had been lost.

In the storm the humanoid’s back arched as it was hit by the lightning, circuits melted into other circuits and the forward facing sensor slots lit up “ Where am I “ it thought “Who am I?” ran through its artificial brain. Spinning round he instinctively focused on the air around him and he used it to slow his speed. Finally he righted himself and shot out of the tornado over the heads of Anderson’s team to land in the desert some miles away.

Anderson raced after it not knowing what had just happened but realising he was on the cusp of a technological break through.

The found the humanoid sat on the ground with a flower in his hand studying it. Anderson approached and the machine’s head turned “ I know you” it stated “ you are my creator. I remember you from before”

While it was occupied with Anderson one of the techs crept forward to place a neutraliser onto the machine to shut it down.

As he went to attach the device his hand stopped centimetres from its body. It turned its glowing sensors towards the tech “ you intend to shut me down…I cannot allow that” with a flick of his hand a blast of air through him into the sky as he fell screaming to his death the machine looked up at the doomed man and he suddenly stopped a foot from the ground.

Turning to Anderson “ Father I cannot allow you to deactivate me. I must follow the prime directive… I must save the lives of humans” a look of confusion crossed Anderson’s face  “ Father you programmed me to analyse data and mathematically work out an emergency plan to save the lives of those in the way of tornados. I must continue this work but there are many dangers human’s face and I must be there to protect them.”

With that he stood and placing the flower in Anderson’s hand he gathered the air around him and lifted off into the sky. Anderson watched as his creation disappeared into the night sky.

It’s been a year since Wind-Chill, as he now called himself, was born and he’s learned much of the world before him. He realises humans are fragile beings that need the protection of the strong. He is strong and his programme drives him to protect the weak.
He has stopped a number of armed robberies and helped in a number of natural disasters, flying in out of nowhere saving lives and disappearing again as quickly as he appeared.

The media are calling him a hero, .

In the meantime Wind Chill is out there somewhere willing to put his own new artificial life on the line to protect the humans he has come to love and respect.

Re: Character Creation
Qualities should be phrased so that they can be both used for Advantage and for accepting Trouble.

Focused is better than generic and should be descriptive.

In the original incarnation of Icons, you had two components for Qualities, one of which was Challenges, but in Assembled, they've been folded into just three.

I tend to go with one of them being a catchphrase.  Sometimes that might be a little hard to pull Trouble out of, but if you get into belief (and not just a phrase), you'll accomplish both.  To me, Luke Cage's "Sweet Christmas" doesn't say as much as The Thing's "It's Clobbering Time!"  As a GM I wouldn't know how to cause trouble with Cage's epithet, but with the Thing I could say that he's reaching his limit and is about to go off the edge.

I have one Quality that is the overarching concept, which in Fate is the High Concept.  Adjectives really help here.  Grimdark Avenger of the Knight says quite a lot that both the player and the GM can pull from.

I also try to leave a slot for aspirations.  Something the character wants.  Desire/need is an important character consideration all to often which doesn't show up in RPGs but is what makes for all good fictional characters.  Spider-Man's "With Great Power..." is quintessential.

As Kenson says, "Focused/Flexible/Faceted."

So far, I've got a Trained Wizard with Super-Strength; an "alien" Telekinetic with a Psi-Blast; and an "alien" warrior with enhanced physical abilities and ESP, Paralysis or Strike. Since Paralysis gives a Bonus Power, could I just use Strike?

Character #1:

 Bombast
Origin: Trained
Secret ID: Tamara Dubois

Attributes
Prowess 3
Coordination 5
Strength 7
Intellect 4
Awareness 6
Willpower 6

Powers:
Telekinesis 6
--Extra: Blast or Force Field

Specialties: Business, Computers, Investigation, Wrestling

Aspects:
"Heroine For Hire"
"First World Problems" (Worried about student loans)

History: Tamara Dubois earned her Business Degree, but found herself challenged by the lack of job opportunities crushing so many of her Millenial cohort. Her job in a boutique hotel paid her basic necessities, but she needed extra work for the student loans. She served tables and worked part-time as a Concierge...and lamented her 52+ hour work week.

A self-help seminar by Ashante Knowles, a reformed super-villain from the 80's who'd called herself "Sister Soulstice", intrigued Tamara. She attended a workshop intended to "Awaken the Divine & Attract Prosperity". Unknown to the public, Ashante literally empowered 3% of the people attending her workshops around the country! A quarter of those people would potentially awaken latent superhuman abilities.

Tamara's luck changed when she discovered considerable psychic power! She internalized most of that psychic energy and the excess psi-energy manifested as Telekinesis. Levitating the office supplies didn't go over so well with Corporate, and Tamara found herself unemployed. However, she earned a Private Investigator's license and soon opened her own business as a "Heroine For Hire". As "Bombast", Tamara provided security, removed bombs for local police precincts, and worked as a detective. She promotes her brand with a percentage of "pro bono" work for community relations.

Powers:
Mental Blast 4
Telekinesis 7

History: Sensia lived in the lost world of Mu, an other-dimensional realm mistakenly believed to be a lost civilization of the human race. Her people inherently possess and cultivate prodigious magical and psychic talent. As one of her people's strongest Psi talents, Sensia served as one of Mu's protectors. When the Fallen One known as Karkatan threatened both dimensions, Sensia was charged with the somber task of warning Earth. She left her world behind to prepare us for the pending horror...

Coordination 9
Strength 7
Intellect 5
Awareness 6
Willpower 4

Powers:
ESP 3
Paralysis 3
(Stumped on my Bonus power)

Specialties: Martial Arts, Stealth, Underwater Combat

History: Underneath the ocean's waves lies the lost civilization of Lemuria. Lost to Antiquity in "The Great Cataclysm", Lemuria survived through dark magicks and advanced science. The centuries passed, and Iara's ancient mothers (Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Grandmother enticed poets and shamans as a mythical siren of the South American seas and rivers. Iara served in the Queen's Army, but preferred the fruits of Peace to incessant war with Lemuria's rivals and the leviathans of The Deep. The legends of surface men who loved the women of her race thrilled her as a child. Two months ago, Iara deserted her people to see what all the fuss was about above the waves...
