Hydroponics section

The living part of the ship. Here you can find the gardens, the fields, even the areas where live cows and pigs (once out of cryo) are kept to feed the crew and the future colony. It also has a section of research facilities set to study foreign life forms, plants etc...

Hydroponics section

Cornell entered the hydroponics deck, breathing in the fresh air. For the first time in 115 years someone entered the deck, and it seemed pretty much barren. There were no plants, no animals, nothing. Not yet. He knew he had his work cut out for him, especially since he was just about the oly civilian so fa that had any clearance on the deck, or any affinity with plantlife.
But he relished the thought of spending his time here. Once he had explained to the captain that it was of the utmost importance to get started as soon as possible, he had been given all the necessary codes and clearances, and he planned to get at least some fields up and running quickly. Sure, CS-8 had supplies on board to last them a couple of years, but there was only so much canned and processed food a man could eat before wanting something fresh.
Strolling through the dirt he made way to the supply sheds. Time to see what crops he could grow.

Hydroponics section

Wandering the ship, Mikoto reaches the hydroponics section. She has always loves flowers, and nature in general, but the barren lands sadden her. Noticing activity near the supply sheds she quickly rushes over, seeing if there is anything she can do to help out.

"Ah, a visitor already," Cornell concluded as he continued with his inventory. "My name is Stephen Cornell, I am the... what do you call it... chief engineer... on this vessel. Not by my own choosing mind you, but we all do what we must, and what benefits the many. I much prefer being here with the plants and the erm..." he gestures at the far starboard hull walls, where numerous cryo pods are lined up much like in the cryo chambers, "The erm... frozen animals. They'll be defrosted soon I assume, once more people wake up."

He slaps his hands against his coveralls to clear some of the dirt, then stretches his right hand out to Mikoto.
"And you are?"

"Mikoto Mishida," Mikoto replied, shying away from the hand. She hated dirt. "Animals? You have animals here?"

"We certainly have," Stephen replied. "Cows, pigs, chickens. Some dogs and cats too I believe, birds, bees. Anything a decent agricultural dome might require. But the only defrost when the captain gives the order. So far he hasn't, and I think thats a good thing. I don't have any workers here yet, and they still need me at engineering untill the manage to defrost the ones actually meant to run the place."
He shrugged.
"Seems our AI is not back to full running power yet."

"I love cats," Mikoto whispered, a twinkle in her eyes. "Can we defrost one? I like to have a pet."

"Not without Marco's approval," Stephen laughed. "It would be nice to have some animals running around yes. I'd love to have a dog myself. We can go and watch them in cryo though."

"No thank you," Mikoto replies solemn. "I think I need to get some food. Maybe see VanderBeek. He assigned me a stupid task, I want a stage. I need to perform."

"I wish you luck then," Cornell said as she went for the turbolifts. "I'll catch up with you later. I should probably get back to engineering myself. Captain Dorn thinks I'm more valuable there than down here, even though this is what I do. I'm not an engineer by heart, I just know a lot about it. This here... animals, farming, botany... This is what I love."
