Re: Rear Echelon Comments & Complaints [OOC]

So just when you think you've finally gotten the hang of tying your shoes...

Edit: I never realized that limit was in the Skills section, I just kind of assumed it applied to all Tests regardless of whether it was for a raw characteristic or a skill.

And my only thought is...why did it take YouTube so long to feed it to me?

I'll say this now: if Two-Bit drops the plasma gun outside the vehicle, Ghost will jump out to get it. Apart from Jansen and the other special weapons in the squad, it is the most valuable asset.

Would the entire Salamander crew be considered to be in melee with the ravener?  Wondering if I can grab that 3x outnumbering bonus on it :D

I didn’t know the outnumber bonus applied to dodge/parry as well...I thought it was just for your WS to hit the enemy. Have I been wrong all these years?

Re: Rear Echelon Comments & Complaints [OOC]

I'm going to go out on a limb and (respectfullypleasedon'thurtme) say yes :D

RAW:
A character has an advantage when he and his allies engage the
same foe in melee combat. If a group of characters outnumber
their opponent two to one, their Weapon Skill Tests are
Ordinary (+10). If a group of characters outnumber their
opponent by three to one or more, their Weapon Skill Tests
are Routine (+20)

My interpretation is that since it doesn't refer to tests just to hit opponents, it applies across the board (and consequently, to Parry tests).  Of course, if you want to say by GM Fiat (TM) that a multi-limbed critter of unusual size does not suffer this penalty (similar to what we decided for grappling) I'd be fine with that.

Re: Rear Echelon Comments & Complaints [OOC]

Yes I’ve seen this. I think it’s always been interpreted that it affects WS tests (which are offense like swing weapon or grapple) as opposed to a Parry test which *uses* WS as a base to determine your TN.

In short, ganging up on a creature makes it easier to hit them as they are distracted by others and don’t know where the next hit is coming from; it doesn’t really affect your chance to avoid their swing at you when you are singled out for retaliation by this enemy.

If I’ve read it wrong and every other GM allows it I will consider doing the same.

Re: Rear Echelon Comments & Complaints [OOC]

I suppose that makes sense that "Weapon Skill Tests" as used here means solely the Characteristic Test.  I've seen GMs go either way not complain when PCs take advantage of this but your game, your rules :)

Edit: this might be a moot discussion anyway unless you allow me to pull my blade as a second weapon swap, since I already did that at the beginning of the round.  I'll just make take the dodge roll for now and adjust the TN accordingly if you allow me to make that swap.

Re: Rear Echelon Comments & Complaints [OOC]

One could say that in being outnumbered and being unable to avoid hits not knowing where the five different people attacking you are going to come from that in reverse when a single person is targeted there are fewer chances for the outnumbered individual to vary their attacks meaning the target will know where the attack is coming from and then be able to avoid it easier and take advantage of the outnumbered bonus for any test that uses WS as it’s base.

Aka the bonus affects generically the WS score...
Taking a Swift attack action uses your WS score
Taking a Parry reaction uses your WS score

Of course the bonuses to WS could quickly reach the same cap that you often see with ranged when outnumbering and good and best gear is combined with a Close Quarters Combat comrade action etc...

In reply to GSN 1701041631 (msg # 940):

it comes in next turn, though. We should probably save the airstrike for when we can get to the ship and mulch whatever is blocking our way in. This Trygon is likely not long for this world anyways.

Re: Rear Echelon Comments & Complaints [OOC]

Hmm. That’s a tough call. If this were tabletop we would go in order and therefore would not know how well Ghost had done in his shooting phase.

But you could call in the airstrike and when it arrives, redirect it to kill anything visible outside the downed ship, though that would require sending coordinates to these aircraft because they don’t know where it is (OPSEC is in play here).

Re: Rear Echelon Comments & Complaints [OOC]

Even without Point Blank range, it's still Aimed (+10), Standard (+10), vs Massive (+30), and an Inspire from Jansen (which seems to be his go-to) makes the last +10 needed for +60. If he doesn't inspire, then a point of damage is lost.

I'd rather order it in now since I don't want to rely on just one "likely."  Not our problem if the pilots have to be mind-wiped if we need to redirect.

Re: Rear Echelon Comments & Complaints [OOC]

Let it be known that the Krieg player is against calling in the airstrike while the Trygon is in melee with half the squad. Normally, all for it. However, seems to be a misallocation of resources
