T'Rani nodded assent. "Very well, I have the bridge," she said, invoking the formal terms required. She then made her way to the first officer's chair, located right beside the captain's chair, and settled in. She could have taken the center seat, but she felt that doing so would have been presumptuous.

Orions were good at reading body language, and bodies in general; it was a key element of their native language. However, that only applied to humanoids. Facing a felinoid, Dala might as well as be half deaf. Still, she could estimate to-Ennien's display was meant to be a friendly gesture. Either that or a come-on, but only because most of what she usually received was a come-on. 'Of course, doctor, whenever you wish to schedule it, my tribble and I can be here.'

Re: Episode 1 - "Renewal"
Several hours later..

As the senior officers gathered on the bridge, a Gorn ensign currently floating between tactical and the conn seat noticed a incoming message. Soon enough, the face of a white-haited Tellarite Admiral popped up, the view soon expanding to his office.

"This is Admiral Coth, speaking for all of us at Starfleet Command. I have two pieces of news for you. First, congratulations are in order. From what I'm reading, the Lincoln  seems to be the first of the new ships to be ready and spaceworthy. Don't let it go to your head, but commendations are in order for whoever you want to give them to. Second, as it turns out, your old ship as it turns out, wasn't destroyed after all. She's heavily damaged, and it's going to take years to properly repair and refit her, but she'll fly again."

A hrrmmmph came from his throat. "Now, for your orders, as listed on the PADD in your ready room. You, your ship, and your crew are assigned to an open-ended mission of exploration, diplomacy, and frontier defense starting this date, Stardate 44163.55. You still have time, if you wish to request a first contact officer or one of your officers would like to volunteer. Otherwise, you will, of course, be required to go on any such away missions as a captain with no such officer. As for where you're officially being sent to first - congratulations, Kenward, you get to start with an easy assignment. You're being sent to the Tholian border. There's a temporal anomaly there, as if something emerged from our universe. We want you to check it out, see if it's hostile, and ease the situation, whatever it may be. From there, before going anywhere else, you're to...well, explore, contact, you know the drill. And if you figure out a way to get the Tholians to become allies or Federation applicants.. in short, if you're that lucky... you'll definitely prove you're Galaxy-class captain material. Do that, Kenward, and you and your crew might be spoken of in the same breath as an Enterprise crew. Command out."

With that, the viewscreen snapped off, as if they'd been casually dismissed. However, a new voice came through to the ship: "U.S.S. Lincoln, you are cleared to undock and disembark."

'A temporal anomaly? Well, I'm intrigued...' Dala murmured, curious as to what it could be. Frankly, anything that made the clocks run fast got called a temporal anomaly by border explorers, while true temporal-warping space–time events were much rarer, and much more dangerous.

But it could wait, because now they had a ship to fly. Dala slid into a seat at the Science I station at the rear of the Bridge, activating the sensor feeds and running algorithms to clear noise and model local space. She shared data to Navigation. 'Sensors active, captain. Good sailing weather out there.'

T'Rani checked the instruments in the arm of her chair. "Docking tube and main umbilical retracted, all moorings clear," she reported. She looked up at the main viewscreen, which showed the shipyard, and the various auxiliary craft which were clearing themselves out of their way. "Helm, maneuvering thrusters ahead slow," she ordered.

The Lincoln gently eased itself out of its berthing space, slowly making its way out of the shipyard. Once they were clear of the outer markers and free to navigate, T'Rani ordered: "Set course for the Tholian border, two-four-seven mark zero-three-six, warp five."

Re: Episode 1 - "Renewal"
Left Ear used the time-honored prerogative of the CMO of a starship to be on the Bridge whenever they pleased to be present when the Lincoln departed spacedock.

She stayed by the rear turbolift so as not to be in the way or cause distraction, but could see the launch. Once they got underway, her days would be busy setting up schedules for crew physicals. Left Ear would see all the senior officers herself, and as many of the other crew members that she could, but for now, there was little for her to do.

Re: Episode 1 - "Renewal"
"Two four seven mark zero three six, aye," came the response at the conn from an Andorian female ensign. Beeping tapes followed, making certain absolutely everything was input correctly. "Warp five..." more tapping... "And Commander.... we have engage!"

The ship shifted to life as it switched from impulse to warp. Those for whom it was their first tour might have felt a brief lurch or something of a drop or slide in their position. However, that was only for a brief second. After that, the ship was moving as smoothly as one of the old sailing ships with a strong breeze at its back.

Kenward watched and waited, gently holding his breath as his fingers gripped the armrests of the chair in his ready room where he finished the last bits of "urgent, immediate" paperwork that had been shuffled towards him by his yeoman, putting him in a position to ask T'Rani to be the one to officially launch the Lincoln from dock. There was a gentle hum of vibration now as the ship kept moving, one that rose and lowered in pitch. Could it be? he asked himself. In his better days, Father had told him of ships whose warp drives "sang" when they moved through space. Most of the time, it was because there was a slight variance that hadn't been addressed. Those kind would tend to degrade over time, needing more tending by their ChEngs. A few ships, though, just had everything perfect their first time out, down to the ratios of antimatter and dilithium. Frankly, Will himself had always seen it as one of the Starfleet 'legends' his dad liked to tell, or even just a story he'd made up himself to make going into the Fleet just that extra bit more interesting to a young boy.

However, finally, she did slide out of warp and any thoughts on whether or not the ship sang were put out of Kenward's head. Time to go to work, he told himself as he stepped out of his ready room and waited. Most occasions, he would have simply slid in and asked his XO to move to the Tactical station or into the proper XO's chair at his right. But this was her first mission, and he was her captain. Just once, it  seemed more appropriate to be announced.

Re: Episode 1 - "Renewal"
Over at the back of the bridge, Dala was focused on her Science station, carefully monitoring sensor feeds and the results of passive scans in the short range and long range. On the Enterprise-D, much of this work was routed through its resident android Ops Chief, but without one of those, a dedicated science officer was required. Dala just wished that science officer was permitted a console facing the front of the room. She didn't like not being able to see the main viewscreen; though she could transfer the video feed to a monitor on her console easily enough, it meant she couldn't use that for more data or models. She also couldn't see the faces of the other Bridge crew, so she couldn't read the room the way she liked. Finally, she didn't like leaving her back exposed; any sensible Orion sat with their back to the wall, so a good seedy cantina was nothing but walls. A bridge should probably be the same.

Re: Episode 1 - "Renewal"
Kenward moved toward the captain's chair, somehow glad for the time spent in simple observation of the proceedings on the bridge. T'Rani fell into place naturally as a substitute captain. There was some eccentricity to her style, perhaps, but it was still a smooth flow. The bridge practically hummed with the energy of a Starfleet crew in their natural place, working to keep their ship running in every sense of the word.

However, the ship, for all that the smooth flow seemed to give it its own character, soon began the shift that suggested it was beginning to slide out of warp. It was, in other words, time to go to work.

Moving across the bridge's floor quickly and with as much confidence as he had within him, Kenward coughed. "Commander T'Rani." He nodded at the XO as he slid into his chair. "It seems our mission is ready for us."

He turned toward the front of the bridge. "I want a full sweep, communications and sensors. Best, I believe, to know at a moment's notice if there are any ships out there, hostile or not."

Now it was a simple matter of waiting. The crew was here because they were among the best Starfleet had. He needed to trust them to do their jobs, and do them properly.

Re: Episode 1 - "Renewal"
'Yes, sir. Commencing active sensor sweep.' A passive sensor scan simply picked up and analysed incoming radiation and particles; it was easy and useful for starships that didn't want to draw attention to themselves. An active sensor scan emitted a beam of FTL radiation that transmitted through space, impacted on objects or was scattered by particles and variations in space–time, and the reflected radiation was received by the starship and analysed by a trained sensor operator like her for information of the source of the reflection or scattering. It was very effective, but also very noisy, as any ship the incident beam or scattered or reflected beam fell on would know about it and could even use it to locate the source. Dala triggered the active sensor sweep, sending the ray passing through space circles around the Lincoln in successive planes.

"Be on high alert for any Tholian vessels in the vicinity," T'Rani cautioned. "Remember, they can cast a net to entrap our ship. Tholians are aggressive and territorial, and our relations with them have not been so amicable as of late."

T'Rani herself owned a formal evening gown made of Tholian silk; it had cost her a small fortune in Federation currency. Only occasionally were the Tholians willing to trade with outsiders.

'Yes, ma'am. I've tuned the sensor beam to reflect off a Tholian ship's tri-lateral wedge shape in a distinctive way. We should spot them if they're out there.' Dala confirmed.

It wasn't long before Dala found something. 'Tholian vessels at bearing 045 mark 127!' she reported urgently and excitedly, not looking up from her screen as she refined the results with more focused scans. The tri-lateral wedge design was immediately clear; next came size, unique features, weapons, scientific apparatus. 'Three of them: two Spinner classes and an Orb Weaver–class science vessel.'

Re: Episode 1 - "Renewal"
Eclipse casually made hir way towards the Ancestors bridge after having just inspected the conduits that they had laid to run matter and anti matter from the main tanks to the secondary core so that they weren't fully reliant on the secondary cores normal tanks which where smaller then the tanks for the main cores.
Eclipse stopped and looked out a view port, it had been several weeks now since the H1 trap that resulted in hir and hir family ending up where they where now, though where that was she wasn't exactly sure. The coordinates seemed accurate as they where able to get back to what should have been Chakona but the there was no planet in the system capable of sustaining life or any signs that the system ever had. The biggest problem they had though was getting the Ancestor repaired as the ship had suffered a lot of damage during the fight with H1 and some of the damage could be fixed, but a lot of it needed proper facilities, Eclipse though was starting to wonder if this was some parallel universe as they had gone to the locations of several of the Wargroups secret facilities and they where gone with no signs of having ever existed.

Eclipse sighed as shi shook hir head before resuming hir walk to the bridge, they had entered into combat on several occasions since their arrival, though they where forced to use different tactics then shi normally did due to the visual part of the active stealth system being on the fritz so they tended to use a trick shi knew to get the ship moving extremely fast outside of their opponents sensor range then kill power to play dead, making their opponent think their some kind of abandoned ship until it's too late.

Eclipse stopped as one of hir kids telepathically reached out to hir.

"Mom long range sensors are picking up a ship similar to the ones we know from home at extreme range, but closer are three more vessels of unknown origin and their moving on intercept course."

Eclipse swore before shi suddenly disappeared from the hall and reappeared on the Ancestors bridge and got a look at the three intercepting craft. They where unlike any vessel shi had seen before, which in the Ancestors weakened and damaged condition made it unwise for them to engage.

"Send out a distress call see if that vessel on long range sensors decides to try and help us and turn us about but keep the speed down, raise shields, and ready weapons, but try to keep the power low for now, if we have to fight I don't want anyone knowing the full extant of what we can do right off the bat."

Left Ear quickly discovered another good reason for her to be on the Bridge. As Dala informed the Captain of the presence of the Tholians, everyone's scents changed, giving the Sivaoan an entirely new array to catalog.

She stepped away from the bulkhead where she'd been leaning by the turbolift and opened her mouth slightly as she inhaled deeply, committing each unique scent to memory for future reference. It would help her understand her colleagues emotions and reactions to various stimuli.

Re: Episode 1 - "Renewal"
Sweeping on through space, Dala's sensor beam reflected from another target. Using the computers, she had a harder time processing it, it being of such unknown design, but it was too small to be a planet and too regular to be an asteroid or debris, and it was making course corrections, so clearly artificial. Its tri-lateral symmetry and crystalline facets were very familiar, however. 'Sir, there's a fourth ship out there – unknown design, but possibly Tholian.' she reported, but was puzzled. 'It's being pursued by the Tholian vessels.'

Re: Episode 1 - "Renewal"

Kenward nods. "A likely Tholian ship being pursued by Tholian vessels. This would be the Lincoln's first day." Definitely a mystery here...and our first chance to prove we really are among Starfleet's best. Together. Normally, he might pace in order to think, but now was not the time for that. That would only make him look nervous, uncertain of his command. "Commander T'Rani, prepare to fi...."

He stopped again. No. Warning shots wouldn't be the right idea, not when they were far too near, if not within, Tholian space. "Lt. Commander Sovis. Broadcast a message to all ships in range and initiate broad-spectrum hail. The message: This is the USS Lincoln, representing Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets. Stand down and, hopefully, we can resolve this peacefully. Keep up the fight if you choose, but if you do, we will intervene on behalf of the ship being pursued." He considered and added, "Take us to yellow alert, with red available at a moment's notice. And make certain we have the power resources necessary to make whatever shots we have count."

"Aye, Captain." Sovis' fingers flew across the board as he executed the orders. "Yellow alert. Shifting an additional 20% power to phaser array." He paused. "Captain, I'm receiving a distress call from the fourth ship, audio only." He took the liberty of passing the message feed to the bridge speakers and the strange voice sounded out for everyone to hear.

To any vessel nearby I am Commander Eclipse, Captain of the Ancestor, we are being pursued by three unknown vessels and our ship has already suffered damage and I do not believe we would be capable of lasting in a fight against the unknown vessels and am asking for assistance from any vessel getting this message.

With a slight hiss, Left Ear said to the room at large, I believe that iss my cue to prepare Sickbay for ccasualtiess. Try not to break too many people, hmm?

With a flick of her tail, the Sivaoan doctor entered the turbolift.

She swept through the doors of Sickbay, already calling out orders, Be ready, everyone. We are posssibly about to engage with hosstiless and we musst prepare for the posssibility of injuriess. Sset up triage unitss and medkitss.

Left Ear followed her own words up with action by joining her subordinate doctors and nurses in bringing out extra supplies from cabinets and ensuring that Sickbay was prepared for any number of injuries they might receive.

As they came closer to the pursued ship and Sovis reported the distress signal, Dala was able to resolve her initial scan results. Now she could see it had fins, a long shaft, and quite a lot of holes. 'Confirmed. This Ancestor is not Tholian, it just has some structural similarities. And it's showing signs of extensive damage: gashes, breaches, and no sign of an engineering section.' How was it even flying?

She tried to scan for life-signs...

Re: Episode 1 - "Renewal"

Dot was manning the coms when they received the Lincolns broad spectrum hail and played it back over the bridge speakers.

Eclipse listened to the message and though for a moment before shi spoke up.

"Take us to 60 percent total impulse and slowly start to vent plasma as we accelerate and change our course to bring us closer to the Lincoln."

Eclipse then turns to Navorn who was standing at the engineering station, and before shi could say anything Navorn spoke up.

"We have enough antimatter to vent a cloud that should be able to destroy torpedoes that pass through it and still maintain combat once, but if we push too hard she might start coming apart at the seems. I'll get some things finalized here then go get ready to help deal with any possible boarders if it comes to that."

Navorn quickly enters several commands before shi heads towards the door to the bridge hir eyes turning golden as shi gets to the door and goes through once a small light above it turns green and several seconds after the door closes behind hir the light turns red again. and after Cali, Yoda, and Marble also leave the bridge with their eye's also going golden right before they go through the door leaving the bridge.

-----------------------------------------------------

in space the Ancestor slowly speeds up but as it does it starts to leave a trail of plasma behind it almost as if the increased speed is opening a weak spot that can remain tight at lower pressures at lower speeds, before the ship turns and starts trying to make it's way closer to the Lincolns course.
