Episode Two: Gone are Better Days

"Welcome back".

The words echo and ring in your head. You can't see anything, but you can feel. A radiating warmth surrounds you, thawing the chill from your bones.

"Can you hear me?".

You still can't move or see.

"How long does this take, lieutenant?".

"Shouldn't be much longer sir, we just have to slowly increase the heat to unweave the crystal matrix".

Many minutes pass before hazy figures begin to the take shape in front of you. You can see the door frame of the pod around you, and the door appears to be open. When your sight finally is able to focus, you see Sylas standing there, in a military officer's uniform, arms folded behind his back.

"I was beginning to think you all preferred stasis sleep" he says with a slight chuckle. "Take your time though, move about when you're ready. You'll want to stretch I'm sure".

Episode Two: Gone are Better Days

Beloc looks around, still groggy from the stasis, but clearly still alive. He doesn't try to stand up yet. "What happened? What did you do to us? That ... goop ..."

Sylas is still standing there outside the pod, paying a bit more attention to the overall thawing process than Beloc. "Where are we?"

Episode Two: Gone are Better Days

Shiaran wakes and feels the disorientation.  She tries the meditation thing for about five seconds, but gets impatient.  Instead, she tries to rise.  She gets halfway out of her pod before the dizziness and a pounding headache slams her back down into the seat.  "Oof!"  Finally, she is able to focus.  The first thing she sees is Sylas in the different uniform.  Clearly he was woken first, had time to shower and change, and now stands over them with all the power.

Shiaran struggles for her sais, knowing that the pod is too cramped for her sword.

Episode Two: Gone are Better Days

"Easy now everyone, easy. Prolonged stasis sleep takes a toll on you. That "goop" as you called it was what I was referring to when I said you weren't going to like the idea, and that was also what I was talking about when I said it would allow you to survive the fall. I just didn't anticipate being in stasis for so...long". He calmly walks over to Shiaran's pod and extends his hand to offer her assistance getting up and out.

Episode Two: Gone are Better Days

The lieutenant in the room working the machinery says "The process is complete Admiral Glen. Shall I take my leave now?".

Syland nods to him, and the lower ranking officer along with a few other men leave the room, leaving just Sylas.

Beloc tries to sit up a bit. "What do you mean 'for so long'?"

He raises an eyebrow as a puzzled look appears on his face.

Sylas looks solemn. "Eleven years. 7 months. And twenty-three days".

Episode Two: Gone are Better Days

Shiaran takes in the information with a very heavy dose of incredulity.  She forces herself out of the pod and summarily falls to the ground at Sylas's feet.  "I..."  She gasps for air and from the pain.  "I should...have killed...you on the...ship!"

Episode Two: Gone are Better Days

Sypher wakes as well, but quiets his mind of questions until his body is able to function properly.  His breath is deep and his body finally comes into equilibrium before he finally opens his eyes.  He sees Sylas and gives him a nod.  The military uniform sets him further at ease.  He shifts his senses to auras, his gaze remaining on Sylas.

He waits, though.  His body needs more time to adjust.  Then Sylas drops the bombshell in answer to Beloc's question.  Shiaran, as was typical, wants to fight him, fight the circumstances of their situation.  The effort is empty.  Rest in Jehovah, and wait patiently for Him: fret not yourself because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked devices to pass.

"Easy, Shiaran.  It isn't Sylas."  Sypher's voice is calm, even, measured.  He rises out of the pod with little difficulty and stands.  He stretches, once for his transverse axis, once for his medial, and one final time for his longitudinal.  Then he walks over to Shiaran and helps her stand.  "He was a plant, undercover."  His words are a guess, but they are more to keep Shiaran from trying to kill Sylas and looking like a fool in the process.  "He saved our lives."

Episode Two: Gone are Better Days

Instead of standing, Shiaran rolls to her bottom and leans back against the pod.  She flings the sais across the floor and buries her face in her hands, then draws her knees up and rests her forehead on them, weeping.
