Shiaran focuses in on demon-Elm.  Her draconic form cuts through the air and dives straight toward him.  Rather than attempt to engage physically, she snaps out her wings and pulls up short, just before blasting him with her breath weapon, a cone of odd energy that causes the air to turn misty.

Elm seems unphased by the breath attack from Shiaran. He swoops his wings forward before opening them. A sound louder than the imagination can comprehend bursts forth from him maw, sending a visible shock-wave in all directions for sixty feet.¹

Meanwhile down below, the last remaining caustic blood spatter forms into an imp. It makes a beeline for Sypher, flying forward in an attempt to latch on to him.<sup>2

Sypher sees the imp form from the blood and readies himself for the attack.  Then Elm's sonic blast hits him and staggers him so badly that he can do nothing but try to focus through the ringing in his ears.  He hears nothing but the ringing.

Sypher's eyes focus just in time to see the imp reach for him, claws out.  The paladin moves his blade to intercept, breaking the total defensive posture.  His slash scraps across the imp's chest barely scratching it but giving it pause as it attempts to engage the monk in a grapple.

When Elm's sonic blast slams into Shiaran, she summersaults backward through the air a couple of times from its intensity.  The ringing and the whirling disorient her for a moment and she plunges toward the ground.  Thankfully she is able to come to her senses enough to pull up out of the fall and start working toward altitude again.  She is unable to consider anything else at the moment and concentrates on flying, searching for Elm as she climbs.

The sonic wave ripples out from the demon Elm and quickly catches up with two of the eagles. The wave overtakes them, and in a ruffle of talons and feathers, both disappear and return from whence they were summoned.

At nearly the same time, the wave of sonic energy hits Beloc. The cacophony of sound rattles him far more than he expected, leaving him with an intense ringing in his ears [38 dmg]. He shakes his head and tries to regain focus on the imp in front of Sypher. He appears to be carrying himself a bit different than what most have seen in the past. The weight of his wounds are more than he can hide, it would seem.

"Elm, you coward! Too afraid to fight toe to toe, I see." He spits out a taunt in frustration.

The imp Sypher managed to deflect explodes in a shower of caustic blood. It isn't apparent if his attack brings this on or if the imp was trying to use itself as a living bomb against the paladin though. Most importantly though, the adept paladin manages to avoid being coated with acidic substances.

Elm in the mean time invades everyone's minds with maniacal laughter and taunts. "You think yourselves some sort of heroes. but you've proven nothing. Done.. nothing. Empty words and tired old insults are the only weapons of the Whiteravens. They talk a great deal, yet their actions are feeble. Pathetic even. Let us  now make the deal sweeter". At the word "sweeter", a magical darkness envelops the entirety of the cavernous pocket dimension. An inky blackness blankets Sypher, Shiaran, and Beloc.

R.E.B.O.R.T. watches the globe of darkness fall around his peers. For a moment, he pauses. Not sure if it's panic or just the sheer amount of numbers that must be run to determine probabilities, he reaches into a compartment and extracts the cryo-grenade. He lines up a shot and lobs it into the darkness.

The sound of glass rupturing in the darkness is all he hears from outside the void.

Blind and deaf with little chance of determining an incoming foe, Sypher does the only thing he knows will help.  He plants his sword before him, point down and kneels.

Then he begins to pray.

"Almighty Iehovah.  Our enemy is before us and our senses are dulled.  You have sent us into the world to be Your light.  If it is your will, deliver us from this messenger of the Adversary.  Draw down his wings until he can no longer lift up into the heavens.  Purify his blood that it no longer spawns more of his vile fellowslaves.  Bring light and hearing to us as you have so many in the past according to Your Word.  Let Your radiance shine in this place so that this creature and all of Fildegarne and the world beyond may know Your glory.  Smite this evil and let us be Your sword to deliver righteousness and vengeance to him."

Blind and deaf, Shiaran realizes she is in the most danger of all.  She does her best to glide in small circles drifting on her draconic wings to the ground.  All the while, she sniffs the air, hoping it will give her some warning that Elm is near.  She also readies herself to catch on one of the rock formations and use her dragon-form's ability to climb.  It is a frightening experience, but the imminent attack from the demon forces her to focus on getting it right the first time.

[Shiaran is proceeding cautiously toward the ground.  At this pace, it may take a few rounds to get to the ground.]

Beloc grips his blade with both hands, not sure of which direction an assault might come from, he takes a defensive stance as he raises his blade to shoulder height.

Fighting defensively until an opponent becomes apparent.

As the glass shatters, the globe of darkness is interrupted. Though only Rebort can hear the curses of Elm, everyone can see his shot was true. One of the demons wings is completely frozen solid, and the massive bat begins to tumble towards the ground directly above Sypher.

Sypher feels a firm hand touch his shoulder, dragging him from the spot where the demon will crash. As the hand connects, Sypher feels a strange energy course through him. He becomes aware that he can hear again, and that his aches and pains are somewhat dulled.

Standing above him is Commander Glut, the ghastly leader of the Shadow Fangs. "Do not kneel before this enemy, paladin. He deserves no quarter nor the slightest shred of your humility. Francine tells me we are to work together, for a time. So let us attend to the grim task as hand"

"I do not kneel before him.  I kneel in prayer to Iehovah.  And he has answered!"  His voice remains quiet, though a fierce joy emphasizes that last word as Sypher stands and ignites his blade again.  "Welcome to the party."

With a fleeting thought, Sypher focuses his mind to make his body whole and the minor wounds fade to nothing more than the grime of battle in this foul realm.

Beloc takes a moment to catch his breath and heal up a few of his wounds. A surge of renewed energy passes through him and readies himself for Elm to hit the ground.

Beloc casts Cure Serious Wounds on himself. Heals 18 damage.

A hand cups the back of Beloc's head for a moment. As he instinctively turns to see who touching him, he is greeted with the lithe form of Francine. "Hiya suger. I told ya we'd be here". As she speaks, she doesn't break contact with Beloc. For a brief moment, her facial feature shrivel and whither and she imparts some of her essence into Beloc. Beloc realizes he can hear what she says, suggesting the undead reinforcements are giving up some of the very energies that fuel them to heal Beloc and Sypher. Once the healing is complete, her face and hand return to their normal smooth and pallid grey tone.

Above, Elm still tumbles to the ground. He screeches curses as he falls.

Shiaran wends her way down to the ground, still unable to see or hear.  Then, suddenly, she can see again and the ground is coming up fast.  She extends her wings to their fullest and breaks and manages a decent landing.  Looking around, she sees more figures have entered the battle.  The calvary has arrived...she hopes.

Elm still falls, covered in the icy grenade's after effect.  Shiaran grins at that.  Rebort's ingenuity fascinates her.  She is glad the warforged is on their side.

Time still remains on her polymorph so she starts toward the spot where the vampire demon thing will hit.

Beloc's vision returns instantly to find a whole new host of players on the battlefield. He looks up, trying to find Elm amidst all the chaos and hopes Glut and his undead band are true to their word.

Hands are lain on Shiaran as well. Her hearing returns as Shiv and Pretty Boy apparate on either side of her. "You should be more careful, lest you find yourself in a state to join our company with permenance" jests Shiv with a gleam in his cold eyes.

With the party cured of ailments and their health as robust as ever, Elm finally crashes to the ground with a sickening crunch.

"Strike true, Paladin" says Glut. "In fact.. Strike more than once to be sure".

Sypher takes a step forward and draws the First Blade high.  It's golden, fiery glow whips through the air with a whoosh of doom.  When he speaks, Sypher's voice is soft and deadly.  "For Fildegarne."  He brings the blade down on Elm's neck in a swift, heavy strike.  With practiced ease, he draws it back again and slashes downward once more, the fire and the sharpness of the blade biting into the demon's flesh.

Shiaran gives Shiv a nyah look and rolls her eyes.  Then she darts over and lights up the Last Blade before getting her own slashes in at one of the demon's wings.  The first is at a weird angle and does little damage physically, though the coldfire seems to hit hard.  It angers Shiaran enough that she puts her weight into the second blow.  The last slash only adds to the chunk already missing from the wing stalk.

R.E.B.O.R.T's fire sounds off in a fairly erratic nature as he tries to fire between the various gaps in the melee around Elm. The warforged advances slowly but surely as he fires, and while the bullets all connect with their target, the impact is marginal [36 DMG].

Beloc readies his grip and waits for Elm to hit the ground. He lands in a very awkward position, leaving him especially exposed, and the warrior strikes with deadly speed. His first strike cuts across the upper torso [53 DMG], while his follow up cuts across his back [26 DMG].

Elm opens his mouth to scream another attack. Quick as lightning, Francine flashes in front on him, her hand reared back. She swings nearly as fast and she moved into place, slapping the massive bat demon's maw hard enough his entire body shudders from the impact. A deep purple magic seal forms over Elm's mouth, and there is silence from the monster, as he appears to be momentarily frozen in place. Elm's eyes widen in terror as the reality of his situation washes over him.

As Francine silences and stuns him, caustic blood by the gallon pours from his open wounds, bubbling and frothing all around.

Glut steps forward, making odd features with his hands and chanting strange words that make all who hear them feel uneasy in the pit of their stomach, despite the language being unknown.

With a crack of energy, a tear in the reality of the pocket dimension forms. Wights, ghasts, and ghouls pour through the tear. First a dozen, then another, and another.

Glut makes a sweeping gesture towards a crippled Elm. "Feast" he says. The gaggle of undead shriek and gnash their teeth as they leap onto the monstrous bat. Fur, blood, and viscera fly through the air as the pack soon blots out any visible form of the party's foe.

Glut walks back to Sypher and nods. "A deal was struck, and the terms have been carried out. There will be little else but bad memories left of Elm when the horde is satiated. But that is in this world. In our own, there is much left to be cleaned. I bid you farewell, paladin. May we never cross paths again, for I doubt another meeting would be on such opportune terms and tolerance for one another".

R.E.B.O.R.T. finally makes his way back up to the rest of the group. He briefly examines whatever is left of Elm and looks over at Glut. "There is the matter of our return back to our own plane."
