Chapter 4 A New Direction

Blackwell Village, Messiah- The Dirty Salt Inn
The 3rd Large Moon, Saturday 6, 572 AA
 Morning
Clear Skies, slight breeze, 70 degrees F

You all awaken to a new beautiful Day on the coast.

Snardka is fixing breakfast in the kitchen and there are no odd events overnight.

Surprisingly there are a fair number of locals in the tavern and many are drinking coffee chatting.  Perhaps it is the Saturday morning place to be in town.

Eddie is taking breakfast order and Snardka is struggling to keep up.

Chapter 4 A New Direction

Jenouise went to the man taking orders. ”I would like one of everything and the biggest mug of coffee you have, please. I will return momentarily.”

She went outside to her wagon. It was locked but she did not have the key. Now where had that key gotten itself when it ran off. She went back into the Inn and tried to remember. She had a lot of ale the night before. A LOT! She went to the same fellow. ”Do you know where the key to my wagon might have gotten? It seems to have run off. Oh maybe my new sailor friend has it.”

She went back to her room and shook Sailor Friend awake. ”Good morning sleepy head. I enjoyed the sex last night very much. Do you know where my key had gotten? It seems to have run off.”

Chapter 4 A New Direction

Enjoying the benefit of a long night's sleep, light is coming through the window before he finally rises and heads downstairs. Stumbling as he reaches the bottom of the stairs, he grabs the banister before continuing on. Looking around the room he sees the rest of the group and slowly makes his way to their table. "Good morning." as he looks around the table. "Has Rubus passed on the information we received from the priest?"

Hmmm maybe Jenouise could set you up an interview with her "sailor boy", I bet he knows somebody who fits your needs.

Jenouise went from misery to joy in a second when she saw her keys. ”You found them! Oh I am so relieved. Thank you my wonderful dear friend.” She took the keys, ”Bad keys. BAD KEYS. Don’t run off again.”

She waited for her food, and when it came she said, ”I’ll be back soon. I need to read my book.”

Going to read magic book and eat.

For some reason she can't identify, the words sting--as if she had been personally entreating the young huntress to do such a thing. She dismisses the intrusive thought.

She doesn't think J.'s sailor would be a likely candidate for a lecture on anatomy, human and otherwise, at lease the kind she has in mind. With her practiced eyes, she scans the room to see if anybody fits the bill--someone lightsome and sharp, not just seaworthy.

When the opportunity presents itself, Ligeia will ask Heather for instruction in how to best strike with lethality. She knows that as a huntress, it's probably a point of honor for Heather to slay with one strike rather than make a bloody mess of it.

Likewise, she will ask Rabbon if he could help her find things with greater speed--all the better to rid the land of the curse. She will smile beneficently to convince him of her "goodness."

To those still in the tavern the mood in the tavern moves from busy to slow as people begin to start their day and leave.

Ligeia, Alaric and Afamrail accompany Ligeia who gets her armor repaired. There are no encounters or complications.

Jenouise finds her wagon in good order.

It is about 9am now and the party is reassembled in the Tavern.

Ligeia. no your turning undead skill does not increase. However, you might be able to do that if you could find a teacher to spend a week or two learning from in the future. Or a spiritual item that assists you.

To the Manor

The group together in Jenousie's wagon ride unimpeded if not cramped through the streets of Blackwell Village with Alaric trailing behind.  There seems to be nobody about, or if they are they are pretending not to be about.  A couple of shut doors and drawn shades make it clear the village residents are not fans of strangers or would be heroes, not matter your intent.  There seems a definite general fear over this village.  Passing over the Fayflower Bridge it is easy to  see where the Fayflower river turns brackish as it joins the ocean.  The Eastwilde Marsh sprawls out to the West.  There are no encounters of note, save a starving cat or dogs running away from the mule and wagon as it ends up at the crossroads of the Coast Road and the Manor Road heading west. Here is an aging statue of a Messiahn Knight
As you turn the corner you are greeted by the large statue of Matinus Blackwell, "Giant Slayer", "Founder of Blackwell Estate" The statue seems carved out of solid stone but is smeared with years of mold streaking it with black stains here and there. It is hard to not notice these streaks almost seem to make it look like the statue is crying.  The Manor Road appears to have been well maintained at one time lined with manicured trees on the North side by the marsh and picturesque farms to the South.  The farms are now abandoned and lay dormant and the trees seem to be struggling to survive.  The Manor Road itself seems long unused and what once was well maintained gravel seems strewn about and buried by years of rain and storms.

 The Monument reads:

Martinus Blackwell - Giant Slayer
Founder of Blackwell Village
 404 AA
In service to King Childebert I

To the Manor

The group travels along to the west where the road runs along the marsh to one side and the remains of abandoned farms on the left.  Despite the many years of being unused, nothing seems to be growing here at all including weeds or scrub.  The air is very quiet and the water in the marsh and the Fayflower River rolls along very slowly.

After about 2 miles, ahead on the road there are a group of large crab's almost the size of a Furfoot. They are crawling on the road 100' ahead of you. ( map forthcoming)

 All roll for Initiative.

Misty Meeting

The group moves forward with an abnormally quiet Dwarf. After about 2.5 more miles you reach a spot where the road ahead disappears into a dense bank of misty light green fog.  It restricts visibility beyond it.

Just before the wall of mist you see a small group of short hairy apelike humanoids, you instantly recognize as Dranabians.  They are dressed much differently than the typical serf populations of  Elandrul however, wearing tunics with geometric patterns and bearing weapons foreign to you such as clubs with stone spikes coming out and brightly colored boomerangs. One  has a spear with a blackened shiny stone tip.

One bears no weapon and is dressed in a white robe with intricate stones set in it. He wears a metal crown around his head.

2 seem to guard him while the other are off the road slightly to the left exploring the ground looking for something it seems.

The part rounds a bend and is about 200' away when they come into view. All role initiative.

Not sure what had just happened, Gorn glared back at Alaric, then realized he probably just saved his life. "Thanks...what the hell is she doing." then realizing Afamrail was also on the wagon, "Afamrail, jump if you can." Quickly looking at Rubus, "Get behind a tree." as he started running after the wagon, "Come on." as he motioned with his hand towards Alaric.

Misty Meeting Round 3

Darting from one mangrove to the next, Ligeia finally reaches the last and the largest of them before the party of Dranabian cultists. From this spot, she should be able to carefully scrutinize the party and glean what she might from their physiognomies and actions--without being subject to such scrutiny herself.

Gorn rushes up to where Afamrail had landed, "Are you okay?" as he kept a watch on the Dranabians. He then raised his hands and started walking towards the Dranabians. "We mean no harm and have no interest in whatever it is that you are doing here. We were merely traveling out this road." as he looked up in the seat of the wagon to see if Jenouise was okay. "Seeing that mist behind you though, I'm thinking we should go around instead of up the road." as he pointed to the left indicating the wooded area.

Ligeia advises Jenouise to listen to herself and Rubus as there might be future attempts to dominate her impressionable mind. It would just be safer, she concludes, for her to look to the priest and priestess for guidance -- if they want to survive their trip to the manor, that is.

The same might need to go for Alaric as well, she counsels.

"Ok, onward," she encourages the driver of the wagon, whoever that might be at present.
