Omega Cometh (Susan's Story)

"Aerial vehicles approaching.  Deciphering transmissions," the pod's computer said.  There was a burst of static, and then she could hear a strange language over the speakers.  The computer then spoke again, providing rough translation.

"Non-descript craft ... Provide status appearance ... Respond at this frequency," it said.

Omega Cometh (Susan's Story)

"Well that's a rather quick response, so much for secluded.", Suri mulled over her options.

Her ship was designed for reliability and range... not for scouting or combat.

The tear dropped shaped ship was reasonably durable, but had no cloak or weapons.  To deal with the hazards of space travel, it did have a protective shield, though they were meant to function in space, and to deal with passive threats.

"Ship.  Engage deflector field and continue planet fall.  If attacked, take evasive action.

With luck... they're not talking to us... or at very least will be more curious than hostile.  Once grounded, open the hatch and let me out.  Once i am clear, return to orbit, and navigate to the dark side of the moon.  Reduce power usage to minimum systems, and communications.  Begin solar charging cycle.  I will contact you on standard channels with new directions as necessary.  Acknowledge.
"

There was a short pause, "Acknowledge."

It went against her teachings 'to hope for the best'.  Expect the worse, and do unto them, what they would do to you first, was closer to tenets she was suppose to live by.

Suri got up and gather some supplies for her excursion.  Some weapons, a few days of rations, and a half dozen solar cells.

"Ship give me a countdown til we make land fall."

Ship started counting the time units down till they would land.

Omega Cometh (Susan's Story)

The computer started counting as they swooped low and swerved around a few mountains.  The terrain was very craggy and covered with snow.  The counting was interrupted by another translated transmission.

"Non-descript craft ... Warning inside unique area ... Warning against landing," the computer said.

The mountains gave way to trees and the craft was slowing as it brought her down to a clearing next to a river.  It touched down and the hatch opened.  She stepped out into bright yellow sunlight, and her body started to tingle.

Once she was clear, the ship took back off and rocketed into the blue sky.  Two flying craft flew close and pitched up to try to follow the craft, but were way to slow.  They started to turn back toward where she'd been dropped.  There was a thick grove of trees at the edge of the clearing and some hills in the distance.

Omega Cometh (Susan's Story)

While Suri had no delusions about her capability as a pilot, she was more than confident of her abilities as a warrior on the ground.  She didn't bother to draw her holstered gun.  There was no need yet and it was best to have her hand free to deal with whatever unknown awaited her.

Ship would either make orbit... or not.  Nothing she did would change that one way or another.  Old drills and training kicked in, and left little room for doubt or fear.

'Evade... Survive... Observe... Conquer... Find cover...', Suri took off at an energy conserving jog, putting the cover of the trees above her to obscure her from visual identification and blur bio scans by immersing herself with whatever local wildlife was in the area.

Dark brown eyes took in everything as she passed them.  Evaluating cover... substance... tool making... points of ambush... points of observation... Dangerous inhabitants.

While impressively primitive... the local dominant life form was suppose to resemble kryptonians, at least superficially.  Last survey reports had them manufacturing crude weapons to kill each other off with.  An interesting if barbaric form of population control.  Something she wanted to avoid if possible.

Omega Cometh (Susan's Story)

Running into the cover of the tall vegetation, she moved easily through the low scrub underbrush.  She heard the roar of the jets overhead, but they didn't seem to have hover capability and could only swoop by repeatedly.  She heard some squeaks and squawks throughout the forest, but overall there was very little wildlife.

She also felt like she was getting faster as she moved along.  Her body was still tingling.

Eventually, the roar of the jets stopped and she was alone in the woods.

Then a figure in a bright blue suit and red cape suddenly dropped out of the sky to land in front of her.  "Pedb!  Vji enu lia?" he asked in an unfamilliar language, raising up his hand.

A red and gold symbol on his chest resembled Kryptonian for 'Hope,' also known for the House of El.

'This... was unexpected.

People dropping out of the sky could have meant the development of anti gravity belts, or some such.  A surprising advancement, but less surprising than the familiar emblem before her.
'

She stops looking puzzled, for a moment her attention on the man's chest.

Her gaze takes in the well muscled man, he was larger than her, probably stronger, she was use to dealing with larger opponents, so this barely phased Suri.

The man had the features common to the house of El.  The dark hair, fair skin, square chin, it was all there.

'What does this mean?   Was there a new scientific survey being done on the planet?  The man was not Jor-El but looked close enough to perhaps be a cousin... or even brother.  Did Jor-El have any brothers?', Suri puzzled over the unexpected puzzle before her.  She new all the military greats as part of her education.  The scientific ones were less stressed, and eluded her for the moment.  Ship's records would be useful, but that was obviously not an option at the moment.

'Is this a ruse of some sort to distract me?', Suri wonders suddenly wary.  Suri's wary eyes flick to the man's hands, they were raised up and open.  Unarmed, and in plain sight, they weren't communicating violence to her.

'.... Observe ... ', Suri thought to herself falling back on her training.

"Greetings from the House of Zod.", she offers wary and uncertain, watching carefully for signs of a trick.  Suri kept her hands in front of her, palms down.  It wouldnt take much effort to draw her side arm, even less to adopt a defensive fighting stance.

The man glanced at her chest and a look of recognition crossed his face.  "Zod?" he said bitterly in Kryptonian, clenching his hands into fists.  He also lifted slightly off the grown, his feet hanging naturally.

"Who are you?  How did you get here?" he continued to ask hastily.

"I am Suri-Zod, of the warrior house of Zod, daughter of General Zod.

 I flew in obviously.

Suri'stuff eyes narrow as his hands tighten into fist.  She decides on the open palm approach, her weight shifts to balance on the balls and toes of her feet.  Her small hands flattening into a flat plan to block, chop, or thrust as she decides appropriate.

She made no effort to draw her side arm, he was Unarmed.  He was alone, she was a daughter of Zod.  Managing one man shold not be beyond her.

As courtesy dictated she has supplied her name and station, a polite courtesy and honor considering he had not offered the same.

What he did next would tell her what sort of person, or barbarian she was dealing with.

"I am Kal-El, son of Jor-El, sworn protector of Earth," he continued.

Suri tilts her head slightly and regard the man puzzled.

Suri's relationship with her father was... complicated.

Jor-el though.  He was the golden boy of the house of -El and supposedly one of their brightest minds.  Even Suri had heard of him, as well as the role he had played during her father's attempted insurrection.

Suri's dark brown eyes narrow, her voice pitching slightly to mirror the menace and aggression before her.

"I am, what I say i am.", Suri says simply.  She did not feel the urge to say more.  Her interest laid elsewhere.

"I know something of Jor-el.  He has no son.", a stupid ploy.  During the insurrection, Jor-el was a single man obsessed with science.  During the insurrection, he had met a pretty piece of fluff who's name eluded Suri, but she knew for certain that a house like El would never have a bastard son out of wedlock.

"Therefore you lie.", Suri made the accusation fully aware that it was as good as declaration of hostilities.  Still, she held back.  He might not be the son of Jor-El, but he still 'looked' like an 'El' and they thinkers.  Worthless in combat.  Where was the honor in humbling one.

The man raised an eyebrow.  "I assure you, Kryptonian, that I am also as I say I am," he said as he floated back to the ground.  He put his hand to his chest, a Kryptonian sign of greeting, although he put it over his heart and not over his left breast.  It seemed he was only passingly familiar with Kryptonian cultural gestures.

"I apologize for my hesitance.  I have had some dealings with ... Your father.  His actions were not ... Positive.  He used his powers to try to dominate this planet, and I opposed him in that effort.  So I ask you, Daughter of Zod ... Where do you stand?  With tyranny, or with justice?" he asked, extending a hand in a confusing gesture.

Suri's gaze was intent, taking in all the details.

'He is offering an incorrect salute of greetings...
Does this makes him a fraud... or simply inexperienced.

Regardless, what does this tell me about him?
', Suri was slow to move, slow to relax her posture, but slowly.  Her legs coming together and her arms relaxing to adopt the posture of a return greeting, correctly executed, '... perhaps he is testing me?'

As he spoke, Suri tilted her head slightly and regarded him.  He wore no life support, 'Does that make the planet habitable to me as well?', it would simplify things if she did not need to constantly be concerned with keeping enough crystals charged to breath.

'Did he just say powers?', Suri thought about this Kryptonian's error in greeting which kept his origin in doubt to her, and concludes he perhaps meant 'Influence' or 'authority'.

"oh?", Suri makes a slight sound of surprise.

'Father has been here... before... when?  He was to be banished to the Phantom Zone, that much i know, but... perhaps, he was not... though, how could he have been here before me?', Suri's eyes narrow again.  Things were not adding up, and she sensed deceit.

"I serve the honor of the house of Zod.", Suri answers rather slowly watching for a reaction of some sort.

Suri pauses for a long moment, if the Kryptonian remains silent she asks her own question, "Do you serve the house of El?  What is your interest here?"

The man lowered his hand and seemed to chuckle.  "I serve myself and this planet, as my house and my planet no longer exist," he said.  He pondered her a moment.

"I was sent here by my father in an experimental spacecraft capable of hyperlight travel.  I left as a baby just before Krypton's destruction.  I was raised here, on Earth, as a human, until my powers developed and I discovered my true nature," he explained.  "May I ask how you came here, Suri?  What do you know of your father and Krypton's destruction?"

Suri watches the man uncertain as he talks, her puzzlement slowly turning into a hostile scowl.

"You expect me to believe that you are a son of El, but you do not serve their house?

You expect me to believe that a world as great as Krypton no longer exist?
", Suri was reknown for keeping her temper, but she could feel the bristles being stroked as annoyance oozed into the timber of her voice.

"I see no direction for these falsehoods, but that does not mean I am inclined to stand here, interrogated by the likes of you.", Suri puts her right hand to rest threateningly on the butt of her sidearm.

"I bid you gone.  As a daughter of the house of Zod, I will not be questioned by a houseless scalawag.  I bid you gone, lest you test my mercy and force my hand to burn you down where you stand.", it was a bluff, though a convincing one.  There was no honor to be found in aggression against a lesser foe that was unarmed.

Empowering effects on our people.  You should start feeling the effects soon," he explained.

Suri hadn't wanted to admit anything close to weakness, but her body was tingling strangely and especially her eyes were beginning to hurt.

The mild sensations were starting to intensify, becoming more.  While the odd sensation of her body was not unpleasant, it was distracting.  Of greater concern to her at the moment we're her eyes, which were starting to feel strained and itchy.  As if they were overly dry or some sort of irritant was in them.

"Nothing.  Is wrong with me.", Suri says slowly, as much to convince herself as this man that claimed to be a kryptonian.

'Is he doing something to me... this conversation a stall to induce whatever effect it is that he's trying to do to me?', Suri's eyes narrow, an attempt to reduce the irritating strain on her eyes.  While not impossible to fight blind, doing so would put her at a notable handicap.

"What sort of fool do you take me for.  Why are you stalling ?!?", Suri demands more than a little irritable.

"I'm not stalling, Suri.  I'm here to help you.  Your sudden introduction to Earth and the emergence of your powers will be difficult.  Let me take you somewhere safe," he offered, holding out his hand once more.

Just then, two loud aircraft flew low overhead.  The sudden roar of their engines echoed painfully loud in Suri's ears.  The man seemed unaffected.

She could also hear a strange mechanical 'thumping' sound in the distance. [Private to Susan Lee: (Helicopter)]

"The Chinese government has found us, and they don't take kindly to aliens landing in their country.  Please, Suri.  I'm trying to help you," he continued, his voice also suddenly sounding louder than before.

"Then it is YOU who are the fool to not yield to my desires and leave me alone.", there was an impossibly burning itch that danced at the edge of Suri's eyes, as if she had been caught on that desert planet that was nightless with three suns always baking one side or another of the planet's surface.

"I will deal with these... Chi Knees ... as needed.  Begone!  Lest you desire to see firsthand how.", Suri gave the man a menacing glare.  This was the last warning she was willing to give.  It was possible that he was stalling to bide his time to set her up for some sort of attack, and she needed to be off and away before that happened.

As she confronted this man, her eyes gaze about looking for places to take cover.  The area was not as uninhabited as Ship suggested, or perhaps the rest of the planet was just that much more densely populated?

Sensations were starting to overwhelm her sense of control, which never sat well with her.

She saw a grove of dense trees nearby if she wanted to find cover.

The thumping continued to grow painfully louder, and the man looked up at the skies.  He then simply floated up into the air and hovered above her, looking off to the East.

"I can protect you from them, and I ask you do not harm anyone.  This planet is primitive by your standards and has many diverse cultures.  They don't all speak the same language nor have the same ideals.  I can take you somewhere safe.  Somewhere I can help you deal with the pain you're feeling," he said down to her.

Glancing east, she saw two flying aircraft.  They seemed to have a rotating blade on top that created an air vortex that kept them aloft.

"I would rather we not have to deal with the Chinese right now.  Just let me take you to my fortress," the man was insisting.

This felt all wrong.

Trust did not come easily from weakness in the house of Zod it was akin to a cardinal sin.  Accepting such an offer made no sense from Suri's view point.

"Do as you please.", she replies tersely, nearly an outraged retort.

Turning towards the tree she made a dash for them, if she could see the flying air crafts, it had to be presumed that she could be seen by their pilots as well.  She had allowed her curiosity to lure her into dangerous waters... again.

It was not weakness to make a tactical withdrawal from the unknown until more could be learn.

Suri started to wonder when did everything go wrong, her memories drift back and she wonders, had it 'ever' really been right?  Happy moments were few in her life, and most found her lost mother at the nexus of them.

The errant thought was fought down, survival needed to be considered first.

She stumbled a bit as she made for the woods, her legs feeling strange and the odd sensations throwing off her concentration.  Once she was among them, she looked back and saw that Kal-El had not followed her.  He was hovering up higher with his hands up, seeming to be blocking the approaching flying machines.

She could hear him talking in an unfamiliar language, and it was like he was standing right next to her.  The noise of the machine was almost deafening.

Her eyes continued to burn and seemed ready to explode.

It was the best out come that Suri could hope for.  What ever these chinese were, they were a good distraction.  Taking a moment to look about she quickly finds herself some cover.  She ws petite and had long acccepted that there were limits to what her fighting ability could compensate for.

Going to ground, and remaining hidden however was something she excelled at.  Night time stalking and recon, ambush, sniping, she had high marks in them all.  For the moment, she settled for simple deception.  Leaving an obvious trail of travel down a path, before backin up several paces to side step into the brush.  Going to ground, she crawls forward several yards away from the 'trail' she was on and allows herself the luxary of curling up.

Hands cup over her ears as she makes an effort to muffle the deafening sounds she was suffering, and her eyes clench shut, a hopeless effort to ease the burning itch that plagued them.

'What a god forsaken place this is...', she thinks miserably wonder why of all the planets in the cosmos, this was the one that her father fixated on.

Her eyes suddenly erupted with pain and she could not keep them shut any longer.  Heat flowed uncontrolled out of her head.  She screamed from the shock and pain as her vision was flooded with redness.  After a few seconds, the pain stopped and she could see normally again, but there was a burning line of scorched ground and vegetation in front of her, as far as she could see.  A tree directly in front of her about 100 feet away was completely engulfed in flames and already threatening to topple over.

"Suri?" came Kal's voice from behind her.  He was hovering toward her and looking concerned.

"Please.  It isn't safe here.  I don't want you to hurt anyone.  Let me take you to my home," he offered, one hand outstretched.

She looked some where between wary suspicion, and skittish uncertainty.

Smiling, Kal-El gently took her hand and stepped closer.  "I'm just going to wrap my other arm around you and carry you.  You can close your eyes if you want to," he suggested, moving to stand behind her.

As indicated, he wrapped his other free hand around her waist and grabbed the belt of her suit.  Then they effortlessly rose into the air.

In moments, he had lifted her above the trees, and she could now see the hovering aircraft nearby and the sprawling forest beneath them.  They began to tilt and speed up, but he held her close and supported.  "Don't worry.  I've got you," he said.

They soared through the sky with no clear method of propulsion.  She could see for miles and miles.

"How do you feel now?  Your powers will continue to develop in spurts.  Enhanced hearing, X-ray vision, invulnerable skin, enhanced breath, super strength, and even flight.  Any one of them could come next." he explained.
