He looks a bit more than affronted when he sees you coming, and doesn't take time to raise any defences before you hit him with some polish that smacks him back into the rock of the door frame. The hood is knocked off his head, and his face becomes visible for a moment before he falls to the ground, unconscious. To your surprise, you recognize Beregen, the scholar you were talking with in Asheport.

"Beregren?" I growl, kicking him in the ribs. "If you had any luck left, I'd be a typical husband and just cut your throat right here. Unfortunately for you, I'm just going to drag you over to the Tuhl whose name and profession you've insulted. If he leaves anything, I'll hand you over to Jorin." Turning to the guardsman, I say, "bind him with his back to that tree so that his hands are visible, then help me get camp set up while I round up those horses."

The guardsman has a wicked twinkle in his eye as he nods his acknowledgement of your order. Beregen still looks a little glazed over and his words are slurred as he says to your retreating back, 'It doesn't matter. Her destiny has already been written. You cannot avoid it, no matter how hard you try.'

I'll carefully gather the horses in and divide a health potion among them, pouring it into my palm. Then I'll make sure they get water, food, and a good rub-down. Finally, I'll bring them together with our 'herd' so they can start relaxing and getting some rest. While they're doing that, I'll look over all the horses and see which one is in best shape for being ridden bareback since we're one saddle short.

The guard decided that Beregen needed a gag as well as tying up to a tree. He's a bit gleeful in his work, but not overenthusiastic. After he finishes that, he helps you with the horses. A lovely roan horse looks like the best choice for bareback.
A few of my red curls stick out of the blanket that's draped over me, and I'm basically still where I was put. You are pretty sure I'm just sleeping off my exhaustion.
