Re: Intro
"Yo Nico. Hey~ Allie, Arthur." She added a slight lilt to her voice addressing the younger kids. "We doing A's first? My name's Angelika Dreschner, Angelika spelled with a 'K'. Friends call me Angie though, so do enemies, the one's that aren't stuffy teachers." She didn't seem to place Nico as an authority to put up an act for quite yet, not while he was acting the part of another kid having fun... Albeit one with quite a stacked deck.

Re: Intro
Josh looked around the room, trying to size everyone up.  Too many of them looked like they didn't know the meaning of the word "fun," though the Angie girl who had just introduced herself seemed like she might be an exception.  He'd have to remember that.

"Name's Josh.  Josh Davison.  Bit of an odd crowd we have here, eh?" he said, his Canadian accent strongly evident.

Re: Intro
Nikolai looked around at the others who were apparently content with going along with this farce. His brow furrowed deeply in displeasure, and he glared balefully at this young Lacaille who seemed to relish leading them by the nose.
When his turn to introduce himself came, he simply stood ramrod straight, his arms folded across his chest, and said "No. I vill not play your game." with a steady gaze at Nico.

Appearing like a shadow behind Daniel, Mary poked her head out.

"Marianne Josephene Thomas."

In her usual whispery voice, the words flew away like candle smoke before she stood behind Daniel again,  keeping a close watch on her rucksack.

Nico Lacaille smiled at Marianne. "Pleasure to have you, mademoiselle. Perhaps you could teach others," he said this with a glaringly obvious glance at Nikolai "Some manners." And with that he leaned back in his chair and let the discussion proceed.

Re: Intro
When the man requested names from everyone, the others spoke up with their names, all but the scarred girl speaking relatively loudly. Well, at least loud enough to be heard clearly. Adrian looked from one to the other, remaining back and in his own corner, in a way. He let the others have their say, and it wasn't until all the others had spoken did he make an attempt to speak. "I-I'm A-a-a..." His voice trailed off, language failing him in his fear. He cowed, flinching at the first person to turn towards him, wincing in anticipation of being hit or yelled at, as if he knew it was wrong for him to not finish his name, but his very fear is what was keeping him from speaking in the first place.

Re: Intro
Allie waved cheerfully at each person as they introduced themselves, though when Nikolai refused to join in she gave him a sad puppy look, but even that was quickly derailed when it came round to the nervous pair of  Marianne and Adrian.

Something about the jittery pair pulled at her heart strings, and she gave in to the compulsion to walk over to each of them in turn and offer a hand.
"It iz nice to meet you," she said with gentle enthusiasm, "I 'ope we can be good friends!"

Re: Intro
It was a little too late for Allie's kind words on Adrian's part, because the moment Daniel slapped the boy's back he yelped as if he'd been shot. He scrambled backwards, falling to the floor hard as he tried to escape who he now perceived as his attacker.

Though the others didn't know much about each other, it was painfully obvious there was something wrong with the boy who was now backed into a corner, looking at the others with fearful eyes. Whatever Daniel had done, it seemed to have set off a chain reaction, as the boy only grew worse. He was panting hard, his pupils dilating, his glassy eyes flickering around wildly, no longer seeing those around him. Sliding down, his legs giving out from under him, he ended up curled in the corner, cowering away from anyone who approached.

Re: Intro
"It has nothing to do with manners, foolish rich boy." Nikolai responded acidly. "I am baffled how no one can see the layers upon layers of oddness here, in which you are the centre."
Nikolai began pacing, as he started recounting his suspicions.
"First, secret program is started by vorld vide company that has alvays gone to great lengths to NOT keep secrets. Suspicious.
Then psych evaluation test is made on students, instead of aptitude tests. Suggests that our skills are not vat is sought. suspicious.
Then I come down with mysterious unknown brain or spine disease, very dangerous, that you just happen to know how to fix. almost seemed prepared for it. Suspicious.
And now finally, you bring us here, under guard and surveillance, and expect us to play along, as if this is all normal. Also suspicious."
He rattled off, counting on his fingers all the weirdness.
"Also, first impression of you is arrogant and not at all serious. Which means you either are good actor, or treats this like game. Perhaps not suspicious, but highly annoying and aggravating." he added, before taking a deep breath.

After a brief pause, he continued more calmly. "I am sure you know our profiles, and therefore know what my father's occupation vas. I vas not raised to follow blindly, but to question all I see. I vill not be part of this until I get answers. Then, and only then, vill I consider greeting you as equal, instead of as jailor."

Re: Intro
Seemingly unsurprised by the man's outburst, Mary watched Adrian with passing interest. She knew what it was like to be scared, better than most too. Without saying a word, she quietly walked over to the man as he laid in the corner. Watching as he cowered down as she approached, Mary kneeled down and took his hand into her own and sat there wordlessly.

Nico glanced in sympathy towards Adrian but said nothing. His little dove would be alright, just a little startled.

He observed the Hunter's rant with a maddening air of calm curiosity. When Nikolai jabbed insults at him, Nico clapped his hands to his cheeks and made an exaggerated 'o' with his mouth. "Foolish rich boy? Ouch, that one hurts. As for being aggravatingly laid back, I apologize. Us French do have a tendency to be that way" He said with a good-natured wink at Allie.

"As for these events, I suppose that I should tel-"

The profiles on the glass flew away as a life sized little girl flew in. Her pink hair  was floating as if underwater, and her  usually sparkling gold eyes were serious.

"Excuse me, sir," she said in a child's voice "But candidate I.D: Columba seems to be undergoing some issues. My guess, extreme anxiety or inferiority complex. A certain action must have set it off; his stress levels are off the charts."

After her evaluation she turned to Nikolai.

"Candidate I.D: Orion also seems to be moderately stressed, but in the form of aggravation more than anxiety. He will be fine."

Re: Intro
Of everyone there, Marianne seemed to be doing the most good for the frightened boy. Though he flinched when she reached for him at first, the gentle contact of her hand on his, soothing and sweet and careful, was helping him to slowly calm down. However, Daniel's approach made the boy freak out more, and he let go of Marianne's hand and scrambled backwards away from the approaching man. While his condition certainly appeared to be some form of panic attack, he was retaining coherency enough to flee from Daniel, and it looked like he was more afraid of the older boy than in a blind panic.

Josh had been listening good-naturedly as the paranoid Russian rattled through his list of suspicions.  Suddenly though, he snapped to attention.

"Wait, you had the spine thing too?" he asked incredulously.  He turned his gaze to Lacaille and raised himself to his full height.

"What are you playing at?" he asked, his voice dangerously low.

Re: Intro
Nico sat in thought, as always, cool and precise. "I would have explained earlier, Mr. Davison, however A.P.U.S over here decided to involve herself." He looked up to the now guilty looking child. Clearly he was not in the mood to explain her now. He had other, grander things to do.

"Yes, yes... I suppose I should tell you why you are here." Nico murmured. It was strange how a boy like him could look so mature in a moment. Suddenly he leapt to his feet.

"You are the Chosen Ones!" he exclaimed with his arms outstretched. At this point it was quite clear to everyone in the room that the billionaire had a flair for the dramatic. However, when nobody seemed to appreciate it, he flopped back into his chair, like a child disappointed at his parent's reactions. Nico spun his chair to face the glass and ran his hands through his beautiful silver hair. "Aw... you guys are no fun." There was a long pause before he continued.

"You have been chosen for a specific purpose: you are going to become the next generation of humans. Capable of unknown things."

Nico paused to let this sink in, and silence consumed the room before he went on.

"You will achieve this, not through brutal experiments such as my colleagues suggested, but a simulation. Which brings me to the surgery."

"The implants which you received we not to correct a spine problem, but to set an interface into your brain stem. Quite kind of me, really. You see, the machine you will be plugged into will be quite powerful. Without the interface, it would wreak havoc on your brain, frying your amygdala and leaving you emotionless dolls. But with this gift, you will be remain intact."

Nico turned to them now. He looked weary but content, as if not explaining to the children had put a weight on his chest.

"Shall I continue, or do you have any questions so far?"

"Explanation is good so far. Though I vould expect talk of "next generation of humans"..." Nikolai said, airquoting the words Nico had just said "... To be said vhile sitting in swivel chair and stroking cat, perhaps cackling maniacally." He smiled without humour at that comparison.

"I fail to see how simulation can improve us, except mentally. Simulation vill not improve physical body. So unless whole vorld vill soon become digital, I think experiment vill be failure. But do continue, and explain vhy it vill vork." he continued, waving his hand dismissively to indicate that he was done questioning for the moment.

"I'm with the angry Russian here," Josh said, nodding towards the aforementioned student, "What good is plugging us into the Matrix going to do?"  His initial anger at being misled had given way to a sort of morbid curiosity at fulfilling a power fantasy, and he was now more cautiously intrigued than anything.

The reaction of Adrian had startled Allison badly, and while it made her heart ache to see him so clearly distressed she felt it best to leave him to the quiet girl.

Sadly she returned to Nikolai's said but she very quickly became lost as talk turned to simulations and implants.  Silently she nodded along, hoping that it would appear that she understood what was going on, and adding the occasional, "Hmmm," and "Yes, indeed" to seem engaged.

Re: Intro
Arthur was staring at Adrian with genuine concern, so much so that he almost missed some of what Nico Lacaille had said. He'd been surgically implanted by the school? Had that been in the documentation his parents had signed? He didn't have the chance to read it, ironically on account of recovering from surgery. Being the person he was, he automatically assumed that the fact that he didn't know that he'd been secretly implanted with a simulation chip already was somehow his fault. So he kept quiet and hoped Nico would answer the others' questions, thereby filling him in on what was going on.
