The Cantina (OOC)

Sure, there are no featureless white rooms in starwars, it's sort of like exalted where your description of how your advantages get resolved will change things and you aren't just D&D trading shots back and forth.

I'm a soldier, I'm not going to be mainlining any social skills so the role playing will come without much impact from my character sheet. But I do have a character sheet and all the stuff on it is about making dudes into corpses (and making my dudes not corpses).

Also there is something to be said about making the mechanics match the fiction. If I want to roleplay a big tough guy but in reality I still get wrecked as soon as shooting starts then I'm actually just playing an insane guy.

Yeah I'd have to agree. Unless facing a military unit I've not found a gunfight to be horrific. Using cover and moving to medium range seemed to be a good strategy.

In reply to Clone Trooper (msg # 33):

That really depends. Military guys could for sure take social skills. Things like intimidation or coercion are quite aggressive means of socialization and would fall under the purview of being an enforcer. I'm more pointing out that this is kind of a game system where min-maxing combat can kind of wreck the game as it's meant for a more narrative format. Unless you put almost no points in combat at all, you're very unlikely to get wrecked in the slightest. For example, I've got one skill point in lightsaber and can likely hold my own. It's really not worth worrying about. From my experience, I suggest diversifying your skill set to other things that involve combat but not directly?  Otherwise, the game may get very boring for you very quickly.

I'm also planning on being a medic and I'll probably have some survival stuff. My real role in the party is going to be to act all gruff and tell you young'uns how naive you are (the fact that I was grown in a vat and only left home a few years ago aside). I'm content with that.

But I still disagree with your assessment based on my experience and looking at the math. Having points in the skills does nothing to address the issue I'm highlighting other than making your rockets bigger than theirs. Which actually means I agree with you, spread your skills where ever you want. I was just sitting here looking at the Commando tree and being underwhelmed so I wanted to know if I was missing something.

I'll look again at the tree when I get back, but I don't remember it being that bad the last time I made a trooper.

Seems like we've got most of the tanky/fighty stuff covered. I'm working on the slicing side of things - think the only place we're short on is in the Healing side of things. Guess we'll just have to use cover as best we can, and the Jedi will get a chance to dodge or deflect anything that might come our way. (Although, being either just Padawans or *just* having come out of "Jedi school", I'm not thinking that we should be expecting Skywalker-style stuff from them at the moment)

The Cantina (OOC)

I've got four dice in Makashi, so I can dish it out a bit, but I'm in Seer more. I don't really have many combat talents at the moment. So, I can't really rescue anyone as yet. But, I've got good initiative!  xD

Eventually, I plan on boosting people's initiatives and reactions. So, more of a battle coordinator who can fight. Don't expect me to be much use dodging or deflecting for a while!

The Cantina (OOC)

"Hi, everyone. High Command calls me Sergeant CT-4805. Troopers call me Boss. You can call me either. I've been assigned to command your escort. Been serving since Geonosis, so you'll be safe with me. Safe as you can be in the middle of a war zone, anyway."

I'm running an NPC clone sergeant and possibly the clone squads that'll be going along for the ride. Looking forward to it.

We have Clone squads? Well, that will make the prospect of dying slightly more remote. Probably not much, but something is better than nothing, I think.

The Cantina (OOC)

Hey everyone. We are very close to being ready to start. I believe everyone's character has been approved. Just waiting for our resident Clone trooper player and then we should be set.

Keep working on backgrounds, which explain the source of your motivation, morality strengths and weaknesses. They also should have some things like plot hooks, helpful contacts or interesting facts or events to help role-play. Your character sheets have the 'what' is your motivation, morality, etc.  but the background should give detail as to the 'why' they are that way.

I award +5 XP for backgrounds that have that, which is given after the first introduction scene.. or future scene if completed later. I will probably ask questions to answer to complete the background so that, when you get them answered, you will get the bonus.

I will post some things on what I look for for bonus XP for regular gameplay as well, but it is mainly about role-playing things from your background, cool actions, and playing your character based on his strengths, weaknesses and motivations.

I'm not sure quite how things work with backgrounds, but I did come up with one for the Droid. I figure the GM will have a look at it and give it either a pass or fail, and see what needs to be improved, as necessary.  I believe that essentially, I'm done for character generation.  :)

The background's aren't going to hold us up from starting, so you don't need to rush it. Flesh it out, think on it and make it interesting. We can work on it as we do the prelude scene.

Speaking of the prelude. I think we are ready to begin tonight, if our Clone trooper player is not ready by this evening (no rush), we will start with the Jedi contingent as they get their orders, and then merge the group as they arrive at their transport ship with the clones.

I was wondering when we'd be starting, I'm glad that we're beginning tonight. I was hoping to get started in *one* "Star Wars" here before much time had passed.

And here...we...go.

Yeah, there wasn't anything secret, but sometimes knowing something your character doesn't about other characters can be confusing to not bring up, so I usually leave it out if your character isn't physically there.

[Private to CT-4805 Boss: The intro was pretty general and gave nothing personal away that you wouldn't notice when they enter a room, so I can send you the intro post if your interested. Now they may mention personal things in the thread, so I don't want everyone to see that in case they have some reason to hide information.]
