Chapter 2: Gypsies, Tramps, & Thieves
Soon enough, as a bloody red sun begins to sink below the horizon and the mists of Barovia creep in, the time for the funeral arrives. By the time you're finished with your painful interrogation of Mad Mary, you just have time to make it to the small village church.

It stands atop a slight rise, against the roots of the pillar stone that supports Castle Ravenloft, a grey sagging edifice of stone and wood.  A bell tower rises toward the back, and flickering light shines through holes in the shingled roof.  The rafters strain feebly against their load.

After only a few minutes of waiting in the churchyard, a small processions approaches: Ismark, Ireena, and Nico, pulling a small cart with them. The body of the late Kolya Indirovich lies on it, neatly wrapped in a clean white sheet. A small sun woven of reeds rests on the dead man's breast. Ismark and Ireena have both changed their attire and are now clad in black mourning.

"Thank you again for coming," Ismark says, shaking hands, clasping shoulders in a manly way.  "If the village won't honor their burgomaster, it is somehow fitting that strangers from far away should do so in their stead."

Ireena shivers a bit and pulls her dark cloak tighter about her.

"I can't remember the last time I was up here at night," she says.  "It's a bit creepy."

She looks around her perplexedly.

"And where is Father Donavich?"

In reply to DM (msg # 1):

"...was he supposed to meet us out here? Maybe he's still in the church, or gatherign the things he'll need to complete the ceremony," Oz suggests, looking around the area to get a sense of it.

"Is there a gravedigger, or is that among the priest's tasks?" he asks, noting the lack of any welcoming party whatsoever for what was ostensibly supposed to be a graveside service. He checks to see if there is already a hole dug for internment near the burgomaster's new headstone -- provided he can find that, either.

Muttering what might be a prayer, Joaquín walks slowly away from the group by about 20 feet in order to scan the churchyard and listen intently for any movements inside or outside the church without being distracted by his groupmates.

Chapter 2: Gypsies, Tramps, & Thieves
As you stand milling nervously about the churchyard, a side door opens and a prematurely grey middle-aged man in priestly vestments leaves and approaches you.

"My children, and. . . . . . . . friends. I sorrow with you at this difficult time. Come, let us lay your dear father to rest in the mingled light of the Morning Lord and Mother Night."

Father Donavich seems unnerved to see the much larger and stranger than expected funeral crowd, but doesn't react other than to cast a scared glance at Alaric. He seems eager to conclude the service as soon as possible.
