Chapter 3: "All Will Be Well"
In reply to Viktoriya Katinova (msg # 223):

The two vampyre spawn caught in the sunlight pouring in through the smashed window recoil and hiss in pain as they skin begins to break out in rippling blisters.  The vampyre safely tucked away in the corner, however, sees some of its wounds knit back together in a now familiar ritual.

[Damage (Vampyre Spawn B & C): 20]

The vampyre cornered by Alaric, Izek, and Tobias fixes the witcher with a baleful glare, recognizing its ancient enemy.  It reaches out with its claws, sinking them deeply into Alaric's upper arm.

[Attack (Alaric): 25]

However, when it tries to sink its crooked, yellowing fangs into junction of the witcher's throat and shoulder, it is sadly foiled by Alaric's armor.

[Attack (Alaric): 12]

The vampyre near Joaquin lashes out madly at the cleric of Boo, its actions impeded somewhat by its blind need to get out of the killing sun.

[Attack (Joaquin): 9]

Having drawn no blood, but ultimately more interested in self-preservation, the vampyre retreats somewhat to a dark part of the room.

The last vampyre immediately dashes for Oz, who has the dual benefits of being in darkness and of being very squishy.

[Attack (Oz): 23]

Once Oz is firmly grapped in the vampyre's claws, it is little effort for the pallid creature to bite down and draw nourishing (rather fiery) blood.  As it does, Oz feels some of his life force slipping away and the edges of his vision tinge with black.

[Attack (Oz): 12]

[Damage (Oz): 12]

(Note: Oz's maximum hit points are now reduced by a total of 5, the amount of necrotic damage taken that turn.  Those points will return following a long rest which, given the rate at which this game has been going--entirely my fault--will probably be some time next year.

Oz, I have no recollection on if you set yourself on fire prior to this fight.  I don't think so, but correct me if I was wrong.)

Chapter 3: "All Will Be Well"
Oz, on your guard! Astrid's words are charged with magic, which knits a few of the mage's wounds, though it can't restore his drained life force.

[Bonus Action: Casting Healing Word]
[Healing on Oz: 5]

She focuses her mind and makes a sweeping gesture with her hand.

[Casting Mage Hand]

The shutters behind Oz fling open, as if pulled by some unseen force.

Finally, the skald hefts her warhammer and closes with the vampire spawn attacking Oz, in order to provide some backup.

Chapter 3: "All Will Be Well"
In reply to Astrid Gunnarsdottir (msg # 225):

Oz cries out as the vampire sinks its fetid fangs into his succulent flesh, causing his blood to boil forth into the creature's foul mouth.

"Relwarcthgin!," he croaks desperately.

[Casting: Misty Step (Bonus Action)]

The mage's form blinks into existence, leaving naught but smoke behind. In the same moment, he reappears a few dozen feet away in a burst of sulfurous fumes that herald his arrival with a hearty BAMF.

Oz appraises the situation, absently putting a hand to his neck wound long enough to cauterize it in the process.

"Thank you for your help, Astrid," he says, conjuring an orb of fire in his palm by drawing in tendrils of flame from his outstretched fingertips. "I feared I'd run out of kindling."

The orb completed, Oz glances over at the Spawn nearest Joaquin (B) and unleashes a torrent of fiery death in its direction.

[Casting: Burning Hands]

The fire burns with unusual intensity, but the Spawn is nimble enough to avoid the worst of the flames.

[Reflex (Spawn): 26, halves damage]

[Damage (Spawn): 17 -> 9]

"Let's focus on this one," Oz suggests, nodding toward Joaquin and Astrid. "Then we can take care of the healthier one."

Chapter 3: "All Will Be Well"
Alaric circles the vampyre gracefully, crossing almost casually past Tobias' guard to threaten their enemy from the other side. As he does so, his gauntleted fist shoots out to wrench the last of the shutters open. In the sudden light, the same hand traces a rune in the air.

[Sign: Yrden]

The mystical sigil hangs suspended in space, burning golden-bright a moment before fading. The same golden rune blazes to life at the strong of the witcher's sword, but rather than fading, it emits a steady baleful pulse.

Alaric angles the sword towards his foe in a passive defense, waiting.

Chapter 3: "All Will Be Well"
With his sword in hand, Nico dashes right at the vampyre spawn standing beside Astrid and thrusts his short sword at the fiend's midsection.

[Attack: 23!]
[Damage: 9 (not great even with sneak attack, then halved so only 4 actual damage - pretty pathetic considering I rolled 3d6+3)]

The agile vampyre turns its body as Nico attacks, so his strike is only a minor wound to the creature's undead flesh. With the creature hopefully distracted by his sword, Nico then deftly draws his dagger and tries to jab it into the vampyre's abdomen.

[Attack: 13]   [Do we know their AC? I don't see it anywhere]
If 13 hits, [Damage: 4 (only one sneak attack per turn, so damage is only 2 after resistance- I did not update the vamp's HP counter for this 2nd attack since I don't know if it was a hit)]

Nico then backs away into the sunlight, holding his weapons in front of him carefully to fend off any vampyre retribution.

"Good work with the shutters!  Now let's finish them."

Izek hefts his battleaxe and smashes it into the cornered spawn twice.

[Damage (Spawn A): 18]

[Sorry Nico, a 13 does not hit.  Did I not include their AC on the entry for Doru's stats?  It is 15.

Oz, Spawn B's damage has been updated accordingly to reflect your ouchies dealt.]

Chapter 3: "All Will Be Well"
Now that the windows are all open, Joaquin breathes a quick sigh of relief.  My shield won't be necessary after all, the light will shield me.Better hope that you are right, dummy.

Calling upon the power of Boo, Joaquin yells Que el gran dios Boo nos bendiga a mi, a Oz y a Astrid!

[Action: Joaquin casts BLESS---> Joaquin, Oz and Astrid +d4 to the attack rolls or saving throws for 1 minute]

Joaquin reaches deep into his bag of tricks and summons forth a weak semblance of the Great God Boo's Warhammer.  Perhaps he should be eating more than one marrow bone per day.

Oh Boo, mandenos su gran martillo "Cometuetanos"

The ghostly semblance of the Great God Boo's Warhammer "Marrow Eater" flickers into existence between Vampyre Spawn B and Oz, whacking the vampyrling a painful blow

[Bonus action:  Joaquin casts Spiritual Weapon
Spell Melee attack + bless = 26
Force Damage = 9
]

[OOC, I believe that this is the first instance of Force damage on a Vampyre spawn, do we know if they have resistance?]

Chapter 3: "All Will Be Well"
With the sun's rays now pouring in freely through the open shutters and nowhere to run, it's really only a matter of time before the vampyre spawn wither to nothing.  The one in the corner does precisely that, its flesh burning away to bone and its bone burning away to a tidy pile of ash.

The other two spawn continue to erupt in angry blisters. One of them decides to vent its anger on Joaquin, but is unable to penetrate the priest of Boo's armor with its jagged claws.

[Attack (Joaquin): 8]

The second one strikes at Astrid.  In spite of the skald's formidable defenses, the spawn latches on with its claws and is able to drain some of her life force away.

[Attack (Astrid): 19] (claw attack-Astrid is grappled.)
[Attack (Astrid): 22]
[Damage (Astrid): 12] (seven of which is necrotic max hit point drain)

Chapter 3: "All Will Be Well"
In reply to DM (msg # 234):

"Hey, get your teeth out of her!" Oz cries out as Astrid joins him among the ranks of the drained. He rushes over to where he can line up a good shot, and plunks off a blast a magic in the vampire's direction.

[Casting: Firebolt]

A bolt of fire lances toward the vampire spawn, its power and intensity every bit as effective as his more complicated magics owing to the inability of his target's agility to assist him against this sort of spell.

[Damage: 9]

A secondary orb of flames begins to coalesce, but fades as he thinks better of it.

These beasts are nearly undone, and I should save some strength for our host should things grow more hostile than they seem.

Chapter 3: "All Will Be Well"
Alaric darts over to Vampyre B, lashing out with his sword. As he does so, the red run emblazoned on the forehead of the newly re-deadened Vampyre A disappears, only to reappear on the witcher's new target.

[Ipabog Transfer]

[Attack: 25]

Alaric's blow strikes true, sinking deeply into the flank of the vampyre. As the blade connects, the rune blazes with a fiery red light, searing into the creatur's flesh. At the same time, ephemeral golden chains of energy spring up from the ground around it, holding it in place. Where the chains touch the creature's skin, it burns.

[Physical Damage: 13]

[Magical Damage: 11]

The vampire is ensnared, forced to bear the full brunt of the sun.

Chapter 3: "All Will Be Well"
Nico moves forward with his sword and dagger in hand, hopefully to land the killing blow(s) to the vampyre beside Astrid.

Nico's first strike is a thrust of his short sword into the vampyre's midsection; what would be a fatal blow against a mortal appears to be merely a minor wound for the spawn.
[Short sword attack: 19]
[Short sword damage (with sneak attack): 15 --> 7 after resistance]

Nico, frustrated by his inability to kill the vampyre, is too distracted to land his dagger strike.
[Dagger attack: 14]

Nico briefly considers staying at close range to draw the vampyre's attacks away from Astrid, but he hasn't known her that long... He withdraws back into the sunlight [OOC: fancy footwork = no opportunity attack] beside Oz [OOC: where he started the round].

Astrid and Joaquin - back up into the sunlight! We can finish them off without letting them hit us...

Chapter 3: "All Will Be Well"
Feeling inspired by Astrid, Joaquin decides to trust to Cometuetanos to take care of the Vampyrling in front of him, and instead focuses his thoughts on the divine Boo and shouts "Que el gran dios boo guié mi rayo de fé!" The concentrated divine force shoots forth and strikes Vampyrling C with a bright flash.

[Guiding Bolt attack 10 + 3(bless)+ 5(bardic inspiration) = 18]
[Radiant damage 14]
[Next attack against this target has advantage]

Cometuetanos, already having tasted the vampyreling's flesh attacks again.  The vampyrling, weakened from multiple attacks is unable to avoid the Great God Boo's holy hammer and is hit directly in the head, crumpling to the floor in a dead-again heap. As the vampyrling falls, the Great God Boo's Space Hamsterian battle cry echoes around the room Sangre y vinagre! Mueran los malvadosSangre y vinagre! Mueran los malvadosSangre y vinagre! Mueran los malvados

Joaquin cackles maniacally and cries Boo is with us! Sacrifice this vampyrling to his power!

[Spiritual Weapon attack 12 + 3(bless) = 15]
[Force damage 9, vampyrling B dies]

(Joaquin, Astrid and Oz's blessing lasts 8 more rounds, assuming I understand how timing in combat works.)

Chapter 3: "All Will Be Well"
The sun's unforgiving rays make short work of the remaining vampyre spawn.  It gives a shriek reminiscent of a boiling tea kettle as it withers and decays away into naught but ashes in the space of perhaps half a minute.

[Technically, it still had life left in it but y'all have been fighting these guys for like a month now.  Let's move on.]

Izek gives a short grunt of satisfaction and wipes black ichor off of his axe blade using a dirty rag.

"Well fought," he says curtly.

Only after perhaps a full two minutes have gone by without the sounds of combat does the party hear footsteps coming up the stairs.  Vargas Vallakovich storms into the upper room, his orange complexion turning a lighter, creamsicle shade upon viewing the carnage.  Brom darts past him and stares wide-eyed at the party, not so much out of fear as excitement.

"Did you get them?  It looks like you did.  Terrific job!  I was going to come up and help you but someone had to keep an eye on Bran here."

"Brom," says Brom.

"Right, like I said.  Believe me, if the boy hadn't been here, I'd have been right here fighting at your side."

In reply to DM (msg # 244):

Oz exhales as the last of the spawn wither away, then sets about the task of searching their bodies and caskets for "magical artifacts worth recovering". Or any other loot.

He takes a lingering look at his own and Astrid's weakened complexions, as well, and shivers slightly.

Hopefully this feeling of weakness will pass.

Oz's search of the upper room bears fruit [successful DC 15 Wisdom check] and he discovers a secret compartment in a small closet.  Inside the compartment are two sacks, one large and one small.

The large sack contains a dusty and ancient looking reliquary.  The small sack contains 42 gold pieces.

Brom darts across the room and looks at the party anxiously.

"There was a bunch of yelling.  Is everyone ok?  Did you kill the monsters?"

"We did," Oz nods gravely. "And we recovered the saint's reliquary, as well. Father Lucian will be pleased."

He looks at the coins for a moment, then hands them over to whoever was managing the party's purse (Nico, I believe?).

"If these weren't stolen, we should keep them to cover our onging expenses," he says quietly. "If they were, we should return them. These people are poor."

"Nobody's reported any money stolen in the past few days," Izek rasps. "Payment for services rendered, I assume.  Keep it."

With no further ado, Izek marches toward the stairs, gives a curt nod to this employer, and stomps down.

"Splendid!" Vargas says, seizing the reliquary bag with his petite hands. "I'll see that this is returned to Lucian at once. Terrific, just terrific. This is going to make the festival a really great one, believe me. The best."

Henrik and the other guard Vargas brought along with him are nowhere to be seen.
